SamL Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 Derby County manager Paul Jewell says the club has already spent the first year of parachute payments which will be received after their relegation.Premier League clubs get payments for two seasons after they go down to the Championship, but Jewell told BBC Radio Derby: "It has gone for next year. "It was spent before I got here by the previous regime so it is not as though I have got all that to spend. "Luckily, the board say they are going to give me some money." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...nty/7348914.stm That's poor planning I think, serves them right. Looks like they're not going to have an awful lot to spend. I can't see them going straight back up to the Premier League if I'm honest, what do people think?
Simi Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 I'd be shocked if they didn't go back up to be honest.
Tevez Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 That Villa will rip the Championship next season. Every Derby fan who i've spoke to said he's good.
Father Ted Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...nty/7348914.stmThat's poor planning I think, serves them right. You can laugh but there owners are probably richer than Milan

And although it is the sheep, hats off for them for 19,000 season tickets.
Joe. Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008  I thought this would be Derby's backup. I doubt they'll go straight back up.
Finchy Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 I doubt they'll go back up as well. It's so annoying that our season has been so gash, this Derby season would be a hell of a lot funnier if i knew we'd be playing in the same league next year.
Jack Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 I think they'll go straight back up if im honest. I can see Earnshaw ripping this league apart.
Ultra Posted 15 April 2008 Posted 15 April 2008 That Villa will rip the Championship next season. Every Derby fan who i've spoke to said he's good. Yeah, right. If he's really any good he'll be off to La Liga by the end of May. Could you honestly see him or any other top international striker slumming a Tuesday night at Burnley or Cardiff?
SamL Posted 16 April 2008 Author Posted 16 April 2008 They will go back up.And although it is the sheep, hats off for them for 19,000 season tickets. That's pretty good considering how poor they've been this season. I think the Championship will be even tougher next year and I just don't think they'll go back up straight away. Maybe the year after if they're lucky. That Villa might do some damage though.
Jay Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 How on earth can the previous board have spent next years parachute payment? they didn't make that many BIG signings pre season or even in jan to have spent all their tv money and parachute payments just doesn't add up!! ontop of that they had like 25000 season ticket holders this season

They already did 6-0
Corky Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 They already did 6-0 I wasn't very happy with Martin's interview on MOTD after the game. Sucking up to Derby is one thing, but saying "as an ex-Forest man", while leaving out Leicester City, made me very unhappy, especially after the match against Col U. I don't think Derby will do very well next season, the players who will be there from this season will still have nightmares, and be low on confidence. I know it is a different league, different quality, whatever, but in 2003/2004 we put up a real fight to survive, didn't and then struggled the next year. Mid-table at best for the sheep.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Yeah, right. If he's really any good he'll be off to La Liga by the end of May. Could you honestly see him or any other top international striker slumming a Tuesday night at Burnley or Cardiff? .....explain to me how he is a top international striker, I think Tevez said good, as in good in the Championship, not world class.
Tommy G Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Isn't their owner richer than Milan? I don't think were in a position to laugh looking at the current state of our club!
The People's Hero Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Yeah, right. If he's really any good he'll be off to La Liga by the end of May. Could you honestly see him or any other top international striker slumming a Tuesday night at Burnley or Cardiff? Yeah, good point, Beattie and Phillips are fu cking ga sh! Championship is rubbish. La liga is amazing. Football is that simple and black and white. Prat.
Daggers Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Derby are going to struggle for one very siumple reason - they have spent an entire season being beaten that this will be their mindset, as soon as they concede they will be expecting to lose again. This theory has been worked out by studying the performance of a shite team with a losing ethos, for far too long.
joely22 Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Derby are going to struggle for one very siumple reason - they have spent an entire season being beaten that this will be their mindset, as soon as they concede they will be expecting to lose again. This theory has been worked out by studying the performance of a shite team with a losing ethos, for far too long. The side will be completly different next season. I'd fully expect 12 in and 12 out. Paul Jewell has already started the clear out. Thing is, we knew what division we'd be in from about December so we've had over half a years planning time than all the other clubs in the division. All of Jewells signins (bar Ghaly) have been with next season in mind. I look as if we have a decent spine to the side now. Roy Carroll - no doubt in my mind that he'll be the best keeper in that division next season. Alan Stubbs - still a quality defender and more than good enough for the CCC. Robbie Savage - still has a fair bit to prove but I'm sure he'll be fine in the CCC and we have Tito Villa upfront who will score 15/20+ goals next season. To me, that looks pretty damn good. Not for one second saying that because of the team on paper is good that we'll go up but it certainly helps with the experience in there. I highly doubt that Earnshaw will be with us come the start of next season. The players I'd expect him to keep would be: Roy Carroll, Lewis Price, Tyrone Mears, Marc Edworthy, Dean Leacock, Alan Stubbs, Jay McEveley, Mile Sterjovski, Robbie Savage, David Jones, Giles Barnes, Lee Holms and Tito Villa. The rest out of the current lot will go. As for the parachute payments going, it is absolutly shite but this is the given reason for the money going: Transfers: £12million Debt: £8million (I think) paid to the bank as part of the old takeover deal Just have to live with the money going but the Americans who have come in have given PJ some money to spend, I'm not sure how much he has been given. He was given £3million in January to spend on players for next season, which have been good signings. He has also been told that he can raise funds by selling players. All of the loans that have gone are with a permanent deal in mind meaning that he could get: Craig Fagan: £750k Gary Teale: £400k Stephen Pearson: £2.5million Stephen Bywater: £500k Lewin Nyatanga: Unknown (probably around £500k). So from that he could have raised an extra £4million on top of what he already has been given by the board. In my opinion, that's good money for four very average players. Lil' update for you all.
The People's Hero Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Stephen Pearson would be worth keeping hold of, surely?
dandannieldanok Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Stephen Pearson would be worth keeping hold of, surely? Not if that price is offered.
joely22 Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Not if that price is offered. Exactly. £2.5million. Am sure PJ can get a couple of good wingers for that amount of money.
davieG Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Exactly.£2.5million. Am sure PJ can get a couple of good wingers for that amount of money. How about a couple of Hungarians
Koke Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Why do you wanna get rid of Lewin Nyatanga? Decent player, is he not?
joely22 Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Why do you wanna get rid of Lewin Nyatanga? Decent player, is he not? Not really. Not good enough yet. Don't think PJ rates him to be honest.
SystonFox Posted 17 April 2008 Posted 17 April 2008 How about a couple of Hungarians i know he's stupid as he's probably bought a ST for the worst prem team ever but he isn't stupid enough to take the hungarians off the worst Leicester City ever
