Ultra Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 £1m bid for McAuley turned down? This can't be true, can it?
smokey Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 1 Million aint that much you know! Just look at DJ Cambell, fu**ing awful! Makes McAuley a bagain!
FilboFox Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 We turned down 1 million pounds for McAuley!?! Neither wonder we are in the shit we currently find ourselves in!!! This bunch of fools can't see a shit player when he smacks them in the face... he's been awful for most of the season and I can't see why he is so highly rated by some people... yes, occasionally he puts in a good tackle but in general, he is prone to making mistakes and is incredibly slow which means pacey strikers, which are becoming more and more necessary in a good team, will be able to round him easily! That and he is one of the players who in my eyes really didn't give a ****ing rats arse that we went down... Get rid of him NOW... especially for 1 million pounds!!!
Joe. Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 This desperation to get rid of McAuley really does amaze me.

People thought Paddy Mac was shite and turned out to be one of charltons best players.
Ric Flair Posted 2 June 2008 Posted 2 June 2008 People thought Paddy Mac was shite and turned out to be one of charltons best players. The two Charlton fans I know, say he's the worst centre back they've ever had.
surrifox Posted 2 June 2008 Posted 2 June 2008 The two Charlton fans I know, say he's the worst centre back they've ever had. absolutely- just what I heard too, despite scoring the odd goal or two!
Fox You Forest Posted 2 June 2008 Posted 2 June 2008 Personally i would let him go for a million, Not because he is shit just because him Kisnorbo and N'Gotty are all far too similar for my liking. All lack pace All have poor distribution I would sell him and spend some or all of the cash on a defender with some pace or spend the money elsewhere and put Worley in there.
Ric Flair Posted 2 June 2008 Posted 2 June 2008 McAuley will be going this summer IMO and we won't get any more than £1 million for him, I think this latest story that we've rejected another bid from Ipswich is wide of the mark.
The People's Hero Posted 2 June 2008 Posted 2 June 2008 People thought Paddy Mac was shite and turned out to be one of charltons best players. Mate - what the fu ck are you talking about? What are you basing this on?
Flynny Posted 2 June 2008 Posted 2 June 2008 Mate - what the fu ck are you talking about? What are you basing this on? I'm not certain either but I'm fairly sure the Charlton fans are pretty happy with him now.

Completely agree. The rumours of rejection are probably just some lame attempt to make Leicester fans think we did it all to keep him here. McAuley IMO will be leaving this football club this summer, and anything over a £1million would be an absolute bonus.

lildave3 Posted 3 June 2008 Posted 3 June 2008 LEICESTER have told Ipswich they must pay £1.75m to land defender Gareth McAuley, 28.Source If they pay that for him, as much I like him, then they're fools.
C-man Posted 3 June 2008 Posted 3 June 2008 They won't pay that much. This is just a statement from Mandaric to say none of you are leaving that easy. Once a manager has come in i'd imagine he'd go for a million. However, that 'relegation clause' is one of my most hated things in football. How a player can get a team relegated and then be rewarded with a transfer is beyond me. It's almost an incentive to do badly.
Ric Flair Posted 3 June 2008 Posted 3 June 2008 Considering Magilton paid about £2.5 million for Norris, we might get what we ask for.
TrickyTrev Posted 3 June 2008 Posted 3 June 2008 I'll be glad to see the back of him but it is important we get as much as possible.
smokey Posted 3 June 2008 Posted 3 June 2008 Considering Magilton paid about £2.5 million for Norris, we might get what we ask for. Fair Point! I think he will go for 1.25m, if he does then we have to be happy! I do think though in div 1 he would be one of the best centre halves in that league!

Daggers Posted 4 June 2008 Posted 4 June 2008 Town back in the hunt for City aceby Andy Mann Ipswich Town are set to renew their interest in Leicester City defender Gareth McAuley. It comes as chief executive Paul Aldridge admitted City would "consider" offers on their players and "respond accordingly". But Aldridge insisted there were no offers for City to consider on any players at the moment. McAuley has been a long-term target for Ipswich. The Tractor Boys made a bid for him - reported to be in the region of £1million - during the January transfer window. But the Northern Ireland international signed a three-and-a-half year deal to stay at the Walkers Stadium in February. Sources close to Portman Road admitted McAuley, who has played 84 times for City since joining on a free transfer from Lincoln in June 2006, remains a top target. QPR and their new manager Iain Dowie have also been linked with a move for him. Ipswich are understood to be ready to renew their interest in the centre-back - whom they see as a replacement for former captain Jason De Vos - following City's relegation to League One. Ipswich boss Jim Magilton has made no secret of his admiration for McAuley, saying recently: "The players I am looking to sign have not deviated from my targets in January, and we have to construct a new spine to our side from goalkeeper through central defence to striker. "I've known Gareth for a very long time and I thought he was excellent (against Ipswich) here last year, and he has played very well in games I've seen him play for Northern Ireland." Aldridge, meanwhile, refused to rule out departures before a new manager is put in place. But he said there would be no new signings before Ian Holloway's replacement is announced. City are currently whittling down around 25 applicants and hope to have a manageable short-list by the weekend. Aldridge said: "There certainly won't be new players coming in. "Players going out, we will have to consider any offer that's made to us and respond accordingly. "We haven't got anything to consider at the moment." Source
Joe. Posted 4 June 2008 Posted 4 June 2008 bit steep seeing as he's got a £750k buy out clause You sure about that? That can't be true seeing as we knocked back a £1 million bid in January.
