shen Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 You obviously have a soft spot for Dowie, with him being your picture He sure as hell is ugly!! I'd be indifferent to Dowie though. I don't believe he has the attributes to make us a decent side.
Fox You Forest Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 He sure as hell is ugly!! I'd be indifferent to Dowie though. I don't believe he has the attributes to make us a decent side. Neuken Dowie.
LE5 Chris Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 I'd get behind him if he came here, but I don't want Dowie in charge anymore than I want Holloway. He had a great first season at Palace, but everything he has done since then has been a failure. And I'd rather we went down the route of someone with no managerial experience (e.g. Gerry Taggart) than someone who has a track record of getting sacked.
coale39 Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Really dont want Dowie. I cant remember where I read it but when he was sacked from gis last job, the players all hated him. Cant blame them, he got them to do some weird and pointless training things cant remember what tho.
jumbo mills Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 He got crystal palce promoted to the prem, he got oldham into the div 3 playoffs. so he aint got a bad track record
teblin Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 People say he is a one season wonder. Not exactly true. Got oldham to the playoffs in league 1. He got palace promoted with an excellent run in the second half of the season, they finshed 3rd bottom in the prem league but competed from what i remember. The following season he got palace to the play off finishing 6th. Then it starts to go a bit wrong, did poorly at charlton, though was one of those jobs where you were destined to fail following curbishley. At Cov he didn't really make any difference to where they were when he took over and where they were when he left. Having said all that not sure that he is my first choice, just trying to look at the postives if it is him.
Number 6 Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...rticle77357.ece The man's a joke (yes I know it's from The Sun).

On the morning of the game, which was a 5.15pm kick-off, Dowie took his players out for a run.Yet the entire squad got lost and the players just hours before an important Premier League game were seen running across a busy dual carriageway, dodging lorries in the process. One Charlton star, who asked not to be named, said: "It was quite funny at the time but it was hardly good preparation. I was knackered." Eventually, the players discovered where they were but they had wandered so far away from their hotel they had to contact the club kitman who hailed a fleet of taxi cabs to rescue them. Following Dowie's controversial arrival from Crystal Palace in the summer, Charlton chairman Richard Murray insisted that his brother Bob should not be involved at any stage. Murray then hit the roof when he discovered Bob Dowie had been in the dressing room, speaking to the players, ahead of Charlton's 2-1 defeat at Fulham at October 16.

He wouldn't be my first choice, but I don't think Dowie would be as terrible as some think.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 I know I've already posted this in many message boards, but I'd love Joe Royle to come here. He is reknown for getting success out of players, has done well at virtually every job he has ever had and has a reputation as a promoter. Then theres Tigana. Whether or not he'd come here now, but the guy's "French" (but born in Africa, I think) so hopefully he'd be able to see the romanticism in getting a struggling club back up. Dowie did well with Palace but has been sacked from his last two jobs.
Daggers Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 I'm starting to detect a softening on the Sack Him Now front! Dowie can cock off in my book - he simply doesn't offer enough of anything different than Holloway already provides. Having said that - I believe that supporters should be the very last people involved in the hiring and firing of managers (as we have learned to our cost this season).

I want Dowie nowhere near here, but his record as a manager is food and drink compared to Holloway's.

I had food poisoning yesterday Ric, I was up all night shitting through the eye of a bastard needle - and now you are telling me that this is what Dowie will bring? Sheesh - I'm going to bed!

Get the bog roll in the freezer mate, that will soothe a season under Dowie.
The People's Hero Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Dowie reminds me of Howey. That can only be a bad thing.
Ric Flair Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Dowie reminds me of Howey. That can only be a bad thing. I want Benali! Francis Benali.
ibbosuk Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 He's an ugly ****er for a start. And he's CovScum. and RATBOY'S the scum of Leicester..........Bring on Mr UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Samilktray Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 and RATBOY'S the scum of Leicester..........Bring on Mr UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No he's not.
ibbosuk Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 No he's not. RATBOY reeks of failure and can only hope MM makes yet another bad decision and keeps the fakin loser on against all logic...BUT....BETTER NOT MM I AM WATCHING
Mickey O'Neil Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 I couldn't give a f uck if someone played/managed for a team like covscum, Forest, Derby etc, then came to us afterwards, I'm bigger than that. This aint Glasgow or the North East. As long as they give it their all, I don't care. I remember being slighty 'unhappy' that Speedie had signed for us. As soon as he pulled on that shirt, i was behind him 100%. I would have backed Warnock as well, even though I didn't want him here. The reason I don't want Dowie is, I just don't think he's right for us.
Samilktray Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 RATBOY reeks of failure and can only hope MM makes yet another bad decision and keeps the fakin loser on against all logic...BUT....BETTER NOT MM I AM WATCHING Hes not 'scum' though. I really dont understand what you said mind.
onesize Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Just to mention Dowies time at palace. Everyone sees where palace were when he took over and where we finished...but it doesnt mention how we had a squad capable of winning the league that were massively underperforming. Hudson and Popovic in defence were good players, Hudson part of the best defence in the league this season. Aki Riihilahti was very good and excelled in the premiership Wayne Routledge and Julian Gray on the wings were the best combo in the league by far!! Andrew Johnson, quality player who played for england and moved for over 8.5M Dont be fooled by his success with us. In fact the team he kept with for the 2nd half of the season was the team that Kit Symons picked before Dowie had started.
