Motorbikes are brilliant

The Suzuki has been absolutely brilliant. Though mainly used for blatting around at the weekends, it’s done a few long-distance trips, including a little jaunt over to the Netherlands in 2019 (travelling back through Belgium and France), loaded up with my tent etc. Never missed a beat.

We used to start our summer holiday in the Netherlands every year, me on the Guzzi and the wife on her ER5. Down through the Ardennes to the South of France. That's what I need to get back to.

What did you buy?

The clue is on the recent pages of this thread. Few alterations when I collect, but I'm done with the angle grinder these days.

Will post an update in June. Traded in this, my first gen R1...

And you will.

@Daggers Here it is. Been undergoing some mods since I collected it in May. Cat delete and a new can, an S&S slip on and link pipe. The 'Wrecking Crew' factory race team in the States use them, although next year I plan to fit the same full twin high level S&S system that you see on their competition bikes as I will continue to make it look progressively more like a pedigree flat track racer as opposed to the road going monstrosity that was released. The stock exhausts (even the later Akrapovičs) look and sound awful. For the time being, I like this can, no dB reducer the thing sounds so sweet banging and crackling on the overrun. Needs some dirt tyres, which will look authentic and compromise the grip, but these things are supposed to slew about. Always loved flat track since I was a kid and the American riders like Roberts, Rainey and Lawson started invading 500cc GP with their audacious rear wheel steering. I've owned 14 motorcycles and this bike is an amalgamation of all of them. It's surprisingly nimble, I can chuck it about and get my knee down (if I wear a one piece) and ride it like a sports bike. But I didn't buy it for that. It's a flat track racer...(or will be soon), it's a café racer, it's a street scrambler, it's a cruiser, it's a hot rod, it's a giant dirt bike, it's a naked retro...but above all, it's whatever you want it to be and it's timeless. ****ing love it.

Some of these pictures still have the billboard on the back prior to obtaining a smaller plate...

Well you need some bollocks to ride it, but I find that a tad breezy round the balls on motorways.

Nice, but are those undrilled disc brakes?! Suicide in wet weather, surely?

Thankfully I will never find out as I'm only ever going to potter around on sunny days looking for little coffe shops :D #plastic

My days of wet and cold weather riding are firmly behind me. Had to suffer shit weather on the NC500 tour we just did on scooters, fortunately Scotland also gave us a lot of sun to make up for it.

Looks like great fun! I could never get my head round the scooter thing but I guess it’s more about the camaraderie and culture than getting your knee down.

I’m like you a fair weather rider. And today ain’t the day and I’m itching to go out and wear in my new Handroid mk 4’s!

Rain decided to vanish so I took the Tiger out to Northampton…and chopped it in for a second GTS. I’ve got a bit bored with doing 90mph everywhere on something that weighs more than truck. Now the wife can come riding about a bit too - and maybe join us doing the NC500 next year or the trip to Ireland.

The GTS will happily sit at 80 on the motorway, and in many ways is far better than almost every bike I’ve ever had for touring. I’d never have had myself pinned as a scooter rider tbh,I only bought it last year during lockdown for a giggle, but it’s a way of riding I’ve missed since owning simpler, lighter middleweight machines in the 80s and 90s.
