I can afford the car! lol

I just dont want to blow my life savings on the insurance!

Job? Wassat? :giggle::unsure::giggle:

Start taking pictures of cars instead of trains then :P:ph34r:

then steal one.

If you get one now, insurance should be 35% cheaper, next year

I couldnt care what the cars like I just wanted something with cheap insurance. I mean lets face it the car is always going to break about the day after you've bought it.

I haven't driven since I past my test and the way things are going, it'll be a few years before I do get behind the wheel again

I hate 17/18 year olds that get everything paid for by their parents then try to start an arguement about EMA payments with me. :@

The point was more "everything non-gti will be much-of-a-muchness with insurance, generally,as the variations in car risk between a Metro and a Focus are nothing compared to those between say a 23 year old and an 18 year old". Typically the less likely it is to be owned by a boy racer the less they'll bump up the insurance on it for being young, regardless of what insurance group it is, so stuff like a Mondeo 1.6 might work out slightly cheaper than a Fiesta 1.3. Having a good post-code helps a lot too, but theres not much that can be done about that. For insurers, try doing it specifically via their websites for quotes as some of the websites that get you loads are actually owned by one brand so don't do as good a job as they claim. Try Adrian Flux (cheap, but not the best customer service), Quinn Direct, and Endsleigh (who I use) do good rates for students.

The insurance is the killer....

I am rolling around in a nice little 1999 Fiat Punto SX.... ( look out for me in kettering, Leicester Pendant on my back window, leicester scarf and the excellent lady killer, foxes furry dice) lol

It is a perfect starter, only cost me a bargain price of £600....

I am hoping to get the newer Punto by the end of the year.....

I really rate Adrian Flux. Because they're small(ish) and independent they're more willing to judge each customer's needs - and the 'risk' they pose - more individually. I've had some truly bizarre insurance requests that I've put to them in the past and they've always come up trumps. Plus, you usually get to speak to a real, proper person who actually knows what they're on about.

My theory with cars is buy a 2nd hand one not too expensive but moderate, locally made.

A cheap car will end up just costing you in the longrun, the locally made because if it does break down the parts are readilly avaliable and will not cost you an arm and a leg.

Try buying off a dealer at least you know where to find them if something goes wrong with the car and you can always Haggle.

If going thru a dealer get your finance (if needed ) elsewhere as dealerships often have the worst rates. Also if asked if you are getting finace thru the dealer during the negotiation stage always advise them it is a possibility (cos they make plenty if you get finance thru them).

Also try and keep your car for as long as possible because cars depreciate rapidly there is no point in having to continuely get a new car.

I've been looking at 206's, Corsa's, C2's, Fiesta's, Clio's.

Not the price of the car,

It's the insurance that kills me,

Ah well, gotta pass first,

& haven't got first lesson until 2 weeks on Tuesday.

get something with a small engine for the first year or 2, get used to being on the road, anybody can drive but not everybody can drive well, speed doesnt kill its the driving like a **** that does, the first 2 years are the most likely time you will have a prang, and dont go for a corsa, you will get instantly labelled, by people and by the insurance ;)

Get your dad/mum to insure it in their name. Then you as the named driver. i've done that for the past 3 years when I was 17,18 & 19

£600 first year - 3rd party F&T

£550 second year - 3rd party F&T

£700 third year (wen't up because I bought a newer car & fully comp ins)

Abserloute bargain, and you get protected no claims with direct line. My dads never even sat in the car!

I miss my first car - L Reg Peugeot 106. Speedo broke but I kept driving it. Was pretty nippy, easy to park, cheap to insure and fix.

I've got two years worth.

Into my 3rd (touch wood) then again I do drive like an old man, when I can

If they catch you doing it, they'll shaft you beyond belief, mind - they caught onto it a while back and added a clause in the contracts so it invalidates the cover - Technically if you crash and they figure it out, they don't actually have to cover you, only whoever you crash into.

You speak to an underwriter rather than a monkey with a computer and a quote system.

You certainly get cover tailored to your needs, they can be quite expensive. They'll do stuff which falls outside of 'the box' though, which the multi's won't touch.
