Ideal first car?

Anyone had any experience with Peugeot 107 Sport XS?

Never heard of it!

If it's still possible to get hold of a '52 Fiesta Zetec-S, I'd go for that. The current fiestas are tanks on wheels and terrible to drive. I wouldn't even go for the ST. IMO they've ruined the fiesta and it needs a radical overhaul. Methinks it's getting one. Should be out soon.

The mark 5 was the second best model of fiesta, the mark 3 was the best. I had the mark 3 1.6 16v Ghia as my first car - quality. Put on some wheels, put in the 6x9's, convert the exhaust system to a stainless steel setup and there you go - sorted.

Disagree - the new Fiestas are nice. The old ones handled a little bit better, but the new Fiestas are a better all-round car.

As for the 107 - they're meant to be based on the Toyota Aygo, aren't they? Doubt it would be a bad car, but doubt its anywhere near worth having "Sport" slapped on the name either - its not exactly got much power. Still, might be one of those slow-but-fun type of cars - I've not driven one. Could be worth a look I guess, but seems a bit on the pricey side for a starter, I'd go for something older-but-nicer and pocket the change.

Aye. I'm driving the new Fiesta. Piece of piss. Would take a Yaris over it any day though :D^_^

How will he get a reasonable insurance quote on a zetec - s when he's 17?? he needs to drive a 1.1/1.2 to keep his insurance under £2,000!

And as for slating the ST's, they're awsome! Im thinking of getting either an ST or Zetec S as my next car in 6 months, although I believe the ST is insurance group 13? Would kill me as I'll (hopefully) only have 3 years no claims, and they will whack the insurance up considering im only 20

With 3 year no claims you could probably get a quote for £1200-£1300.

I've got a Mondeo ST220 and the insurance isn't too bad.

So you should be alright in a Fiesta ST...

Exactly, thats why maybe a newer zetec S would be a better option? I hate forking out for frickin insurance

yeh but arent you like 25? Surely you amount 6 years no claims or something if you've got that. Isnt the mondeo only half a litre bigger than the fiesta ST

As far as I'm aware, the fiesta ST is a 2.0 litre or something. The focus ST is prob around 2.5 litre, Mondeo ST220 is 3.0 litre.

In terms of performance/speed you probably get similar from each.

I agree with act smiley and SUAS when it comes to the new Fiesta. Never drove any of the older ones.

Andy, the Yaris is good, but there's absolutely no boot room or room for people in the back! Just ask Monk, ld3 and Joe. after our trip down Plymouth! It's so useful having a boot you can fit things in.

my first car was a fiesta, then i sold it and bought a 52 plate civic because the fiesta did not like the motorway. Then the civic got written off by a drunk driver driving into me head on (its a safe car i walked away from the accident) then i went to auction to buy my next car....honda accord 54 plate, 27,000 miles exec edition...all the mod cons apart form parking sensors - which are for women and sat nav - i use my sisters. the car cost £,8,400 and at the time parkers valued it at £10,500 and the auction reserve was £9,500.

moral of the story, go to auction and buy a car that is cheaper than book value so you can ofset insurance costs against car cost and get a better deal.

another great inflation busting tip brought to you by blue blood!!

its time to sell the accord for a profit soon i think and go back to the auction....hopefully an A4 or BMW 3 series this time around.

There is always the risk though that you replace your beloved 8 year old Astra that there wasn't much wrong with with a 3 year old Astra that in contrast is a piece of crap. In fairness, I think you can buy Hondas without needing to worry (although the new Civic is supposedly not as well put together as the previous one)

Clio. But try to get a special edition like the Billabong as they look a bit better with alloys and more colour coding. Should still be cheap as chips to run as well with a 1.2 engine.

Failing that a 206, they look sharp with a nice set of wheels on them and even the 1.1 is reasonably nippy.

Don't get a Saxo though, too high a risk that it's been revved to f**k by some chav with an ASBO.

It was the driving force for their development though - along with internal vanity lights and mirrors on the sun visors. The number of "girlies" I know who take absolute pleasure in declaring their inability to park a car is frightening. No doubt the numbers of blokes who can't park are probably on par with the females but they don't advertise their crap driving skills as a badge of pride...they have fights in the middle of roads instead.

Sex is pretty much irrelevant to ability to drive - almost everyone on the road these days should have their sodding licence ripped up - especially everyone that is not me driving through Sutton on Friday afternoons.
