Paul Lambert Talk & Rumours

I could have guessed that, had a look at Wycombes goals for last night and it was a major turn off for me, in League 2 and with an Argentian midfielder. Any manager that can't get his team scoring on average at least 1.5 a game can fook right off now, we need change. Although 1 a game would be an improvement on last season.

15% win rate at Livingston doesn't bode well either.

I agree, Sergio Torres would be welcome though. He's at worst a League One player.

On paper our team was a far better Championship side than Bolton are a premier league side though. Can't really make a direct comparison.

Thats the point i was making.

I've lived in Wycombe for 6 years now and kind of keep an eye out for their results - I was really hoping they'd come up so I'd have a very local game.

Have to say I don't really think that much of Lambert, I think he'd be an OK choice and could probably get us up but I'm sure there's better out there.

As for Oakes, I always rated him and think he'd do well in League 1. I do remember smiling at a quote on the back page of the local paper a few months ago though where Lambert was saying Oakes should be playing in the premiership :-)

Oakes problem wasn't really a lack of skill, it was a lack of application.

I'm not sure...

We can definitely do better.

Akpo Szymkowiak????? anybody heard anything about this guy. someone on 606 seems to think he's being strongly linked for holloways replacement. Polish newspapers are reporting this connection. tried to find him on google but cant find any info on the guy!!! what do you think????

I can't believe people would simply turn him down because his Wycombe side didn't play attractive football, results matter not entertainment, especially in League 1. I'll admit to have moaned on the odd occasion about Megson's tactics but I'd rather he stayed and we survived up through defensive overload than get relegated with Holloway.

I've watched boring and shit football for too long though. I appreciate if we played horrible football but won games then it's different to playing crap football and losing, but unless we win every game, it would frustrate the hell out of me because it would anger me to watch us have no interest in attacking and winning football matches and there lies my problem. If you see your team have 8 men behind the ball, hoofing it long and hoping to pinch a goal and defend it out, then when it doesn't happen, you'll be furious.

However, if we set our stall out to play football properly and attack teams with the intention of winning and entertaining then although losing would be painful, I could accept it more if I know my team has given it everything to win the match.

NO!

And also a big NO to Lambert.

I'm getting really fed up of this manager talk, just sack Holloway and get Thracian and me in!

fook that. Who wants to pay hundreds of pounds to spend a season watching us play ultra defensive hoofball against yeovil and crewe.

No! your judgement is already in question after admitting to wanting Micky Adams back. :P

Until you'd watched your team lose their tenth entertaining match in a row, then we'd all be calling for the managers head.

We weren't entertaining under oneill but it was exciting.

Its all about pace that what we have been lacking.

As I've said countless times, the cautious approach hasn't worked. I wonder how many times Manchester United failed to score this season compared to Leicester. No matter how the dourists dress it up you cannot win without scoring and to win prizes you have to score more than once a game.

Quite how our own holy trinity of Howard, Hayles and Fryatt were not as prolific as Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez really is one of life's great mysteries.

I compared the loan system to Man Utd saying that if used correctly it is an excellent tool as it gives young players a chance to gain experience that they wouldn't at their parent club. (eg Beckham to Preston) You 'wronged' me for using Man Utd as an example, yet now you use them in this argument.

Double standards me thinks.

Pure gold right there FT'ers.

As for Lambert, I'm very unconvinced. Done a decent job with Wycombe but I can't help but feel it would be like Megson all over again by looking through the comments in this thread.

I hated Megson as our manager when he was here. The most uninspiring, negative football possibly known to man. Maybe he would have kept us up, probably. But I'd rather go down than watch the shit that was served up every week under him. We'd have gone absolutely nowhere with him that's for sure. I just don't want a repeat experience.

This is from Wikipedia!!! According to them hes appointed our new manager TOMORROW!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Lambert

(TOWARDS THE BOTTOM)

Lambert was appointed manager of English team Wycombe Wanderers on 30 June 2006. He led Wycombe to the League Cup semi-finals after defeating Premier League sides Fulham and Charlton Athletic. The semi-final tie, against then Premier League champions Chelsea, saw Wycombe hold Chelsea to a 1–1 draw at Adams Park before losing the away leg. This was the first time in over 30 years a fourth tier team had reached that stage of the League Cup.

Lambert resigned as Wycombe manager on 20th May 2008 following the club's elimination from the League 2 play-offs by Stockport County. He was appointed as the new Leicester City manager on 24th May 2008.

I cannot believe this.
