SamL Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Barry staying at Villa. It's about time the Barry saga ended. Liverpool aren't going to win the title anytime soon because they're not prepared to spend the money. Certain areas of their team needed strengthening and they haven't done it.

Brainy Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Excuse me?They've spent over 30 million on 6 players this summer. What positions need strengthening exactly? 2/3 of that on one player, a few million on unknown players, and the rest on foriegn youngsters.
SamL Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Excuse me?They've spent over 30 million on 6 players this summer. What positions need strengthening exactly? Well the signings they've made haven't exactly set the world alight have they? I would've said they needed a wide player or two. I think Robbie Keane could turn out to be a decent signing but I think the price was a few million too much.

I think Robbie Keane could turn out to be a decent signing but I think the price was a few million too much. Granted, they could probably do with another winger. But Babel, Kuyt and probably Keane on a few occasions will play there. They didn't really need Barry tbh, that was all because Alonso was supposed to be leaving.
lildave3 Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Alonso is much better than Barry. Nobody questionned it.
Tevez Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Nobody questionned it. I know. But it was related to Gareth Barry.
dandannieldanok Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 It's about time the Barry saga ended. Here here, the guy isn't worth all the bother, Barry for anything over £10m would have been a pitiful signing IMO, I don't rate him much at all. Alonso is much better than Barry. Agreed.
Brainy Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Malbranque to Sunderland Sorensen to Stoke Bougherra to WBA And teletext also says Bristol City have agreed to sign Nicky Maynard, although there is no page on this..
Asha Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 And teletext also says Bristol City have agreed to sign Nicky Maynard, although there is no page on this.. Link Bristol City have had a bid accepted for Crewe striker Nicky Maynard, BBC Radio Bristol understands. The club had an offer turned down for the 21-year-old earlier in the summer but have returned with a bid BBC Radio Stoke understands is in excess of £2m. It follows City's decision to pull-out of moves for Egyptian striker Emad Moteab and Coventry's Michael Mifsud. Maynard scored 32 goals in 52 league starts for Crewe including 11 in nine games at the end of last season. "The chairman is backing me all the way at the moment." Gary Johnson City manager Gary Johnson is keen to add two strikers to his squad before the season starts on 9 August. One of those is a target-man who currently plays his football in Europe. He told BBC Radio Bristol after Tuesday night's 1-1 draw at Cheltenham that the club were close to making a breakthrough. "We know who we want to bring in. We're very close and the chairman is backing me all the way at the moment. "We'll get there and by Blackpool we'll have our squad complete."
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 Fair enough they didn't succeed but they showed a fair bit of ambition in going for him from the start. And i'm pretty sure theBen Haim signing had nothing to do with their failure to get Ronaldinho . Yeah I know. To me though it just doesn't make sense. One minute their making / attempting signings that would really inspire the fans (Jo, Ronaldinho), and then they end up buying a fat Israeli centre back. With their finances, there are a million better (affordable) defenders than Ben Haim.

And like I say, will mostly be used as backup.

Asha Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 Would have been a decent signing for one of the lesser premier league teams. Thought Man City would have more ambition.
lildave3 Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 I do.Darren Moore knows the league but I sure as shit wouldn't have him in my defence. He isn't as bad as you're making out.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 He isn't as bad as you're making out. No he's not but, as NSLL has said, a club attempting to break the Big 4 monopoly / get into Europe could attract defenders of higher calibre.
Father Ted Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 Purely for cover I imagine.I certainly wouldn't put him in ahead of Richards or Dunne. I rate Ben-Haim... Also, Hughes said that he reckons Richards is more naturally a midfield and reckons he's the next Steven Gerrard. Even played Richards in midfield in pre-season games I think.
Father Ted Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 Spurs in talks with Pavlyuchenko. Now, that is one player I would like to see playing in the Prem. If Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko both go to Spurs then I can really see them breaking the Top 4.
Stevosevic Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 Spurs in talks with Pavlyuchenko. Ooooo, where did you hear this?
