SamL Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 Attractive signings? Rofl.Chopra, Etuhu, Diouf, Richardson and Stokes are hardly attractive signings are they? Strong season? Rofl. I meant that the players they've bought this season just go to show how far they've come in the last few years. Obviously 15th wasn't that great a finish, but in their eyes anything above 18th would be a strong season. Their main objective would've been to stave off relegation, which they did. I hope that has cleared that up.
Uncle Albert Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 Chimbonda? Richardson - an attractive signing at the time. Tainio?I agree, they won't as strong as people are making out but a bit harsh when questioning the signings. They're not bad. Tainio? Please. Some missfit from Spurs, yea a brilliant signing. Richardson? A Yanited reject. Injured all season. (Class.) Chimbonda probably is the best signing and if that is there best signing a right back god help them.
Brainy Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 Did you expect Sunderland to be in the top four this season or something?
Tevez Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 Feeling the Mackems now.. I think Keane will settle for mid table this season then push next season. As for Robbie Keane, like the lad alot. Whether 18m seems a bit pricey.. Come to think of it, u wern't going to get him for any cheaper. Good signing.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 Sunderland had alot of luck last season. They got alot of points from the last few minutes of games. Without that luck this season I expect them to struggle.

Did you expect Sunderland to be in the top four this season or something? No. I just dont see the point in people saying a team had a good season in finishing 15th and saying that they have signed attractive players. So what some of you are saying is next season if we get promoted then 15th will be a strong League position. Rofl.

No. I just dont see the point in people saying a team had a good season in finishing 15th and saying that they have signed attractive players. So what some of you are saying is next season if we get promoted then 15th will be a strong League position. Rofl. No. Considering their aim would've been to avoid relegation, 15th was a pretty good finish. The players they've signed aren't that great no, but considering where they were a few seasons ago it just goes to show how far they've actually come.
Alexikokopops Posted 29 July 2008 Posted 29 July 2008 Tainio? Please. Some missfit from Spurs, yea a brilliant signing. Richardson? A Yanited reject. Injured all season. (Class.) Jesus wept, what kind of players do you expect Sunderland to be signing if you're mocking the fact they bought a player that the Champions didn't deem good enough for them? Seriously, given the fact that they've been in the Prem one season and looking to establish themselves as a Premiership side then they can't go too wrong with signings like Chimbonda, Taino and Diouf who have all got a few years Prem experience playing for top half Premiership sides (Well, Bolton were when Big Sam was there).
General Smuts Posted 29 July 2008 Posted 29 July 2008 I rate Robbie Keane more than 18m tbh. Perfect pool signing.
SamL Posted 29 July 2008 Posted 29 July 2008 Blackburn and Spurs are in negotiations over the possible sale of David Bentley.
Stevosevic Posted 29 July 2008 Posted 29 July 2008 Chris Eagles to Burnley. Undisclosed. Three year deal.
capital_fox Posted 29 July 2008 Posted 29 July 2008 Chris Eagles to Burnley. Undisclosed. Three year deal. Bit weird considering he was playing pre season for United. Great signing for Burnley though.. Owen Coyle bagged in pre season!!
MC Prussian Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Blackburn and Spurs are in negotiations over the possible sale of David Bentley. And it's looking more and more likely he'll be a Yid soon enough: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/t...pur/7530967.stm
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Tal Ben Haim to Man City. Man City have zero ambition then. I don't rate Ben Haim at all.
lavrentis Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Chris Eagles to Burnley. Undisclosed. Three year deal. He's the skinny one?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 He's the skinny one? Yeah, he's got black hair and looks really gangly.
lildave3 Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Man City have zero ambition then. I don't rate Ben Haim at all. Purely for cover I imagine. I certainly wouldn't put him in ahead of Richards or Dunne.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Purely for cover I imagine.I certainly wouldn't put him in ahead of Richards or Dunne. Yeah. Still can't understand how he ever managed to wind up at Chelsea though.
Samilktray Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Man City have zero ambition then. I don't rate Ben Haim at all. No ambition yet they gave it a damn good go at signing Ronaldinho.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 No ambition yet they gave it a damn good go at signing Ronaldinho. Yeah but they don't succeed and then chase down Tal Ben Haim.
Samilktray Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Yeah but they don't succeed and then chase down Tal Ben Haim. Fair enough they didn't succeed but they showed a fair bit of ambition in going for him from the start. And i'm pretty sure theBen Haim signing had nothing to do with their failure to get Ronaldinho .
