I seem to remember us being one of the favourites to go up from the Chumpionship last season too :(

Newly promoted Peterbrough and MK Dons are up there too.

IF and it's a HUGE IF, if we do get promoted we will probably be up there in the favourites for the Championship.

The bookies are nuts. They don't even know who our manager will be and they make us 2nd favourites. We're going to lose half the squad too, so where they get the ability to predict placings I don't know.

They price according to how they think punters will bet more than anything.

I'm having some on Stockport to make the PO's after seeing them today. Some good young 'uns + Jim Gannon is a shrewd guy. Pilkington, Rowe, Rose, Dickinson...I am liking.

Southend look a good bet at 20/1

That looks pretty good. It's definitely a worth a punt.

We were tenth faveourites last season. The bookies opinions mean nothing in terms of predicting who will win the league. From The Championship downwards it's always completly unpredictable.

Well if we don't want them to be favourites, don't bet on them, which will force the bookies to lengthen the odds, and vice versa.

Simple!

Colchester, ahhhhh  I'm still tempted to change allegiance. :P Definitely worth sticking a few quid on. :yesyes:

I think MK Dons, with Ince, will be there or there abouts, depends whether they can stay there ior if they fade away like Bristol City in the champ this season

Although the odds aren't that nice, not really worth it to wait a whole season for, especially for a promoted team

Thats the problem with the bookies. Always give shit odds.

Apart from when i had a punt on Greece to Win the Euro's a few years back :D

That's knackered that then. Almost ever since we came down the bookies have either fancied us for promotion or to do far better than was actually the case.

Truth is they've been way off the mark.

And how can the bookies base their odds on anything sensible?

We don't have a manager and haven't a clue which players will stay or go.

I wouldn't dream of making a prediction at this stage but one thing I'm, certain of is that gaining promotion will be a lot harder than the bookies seem to expect.

Thats the thing we are totally unpredictable.

Lets face it we could easily storm the League and win it easily or the other extreme get relegated.

But the bookies know we are one of few teams who even have the tiniest chance of stroming this League so can't take any gambles by offering high odds.

If they offered 16/1 which i think would be a fair price, people are going to pile their money on, which will obviously reduce the odds, but they don't want to tempt masses of punters or if we did win it, the bookies would lose out.

They offer fairly shit odds so punters back all the teams and only 1 can win the League, so the bookies rake it in.

People may not think it's worth a bet on Leeds or Leicester at those odds.

O i wish i was a bookie  although it is extremely un ethical.

My in-laws owned a bookies just outside Leicester for years and the picture you paint is pretty well spot on because they were able to have the time of their lives touring the world in retirement.

Don't know as they were unethical though. I never heard them say anything but that betting was a mug's game to anyone who asked. Perhaps a good job that not many asked.
