Blackpool manager Simon Grayson says reports linking him with the vacant managerial job at Leicester are 'pure speculation'.

Leicester are searching for their sixth manager in little over 12 months after Ian Holloway was sacked following the club's relegation to League One.

Grayson would undoubtedly be a popular choice at the Walkers Stadium having spent five years playing for the Foxes and captaining them to League Cup success in 1997.

Speculation

Since taking over at Blackpool in November 2005, Grayson has taken the Seasiders from League One to the Championship and keeping them there, securing a 19th place finish this season.

Grayson is quick to dismiss any report linking him with a move to Leicester and admits he is focused on building the squad for next season.

"It is flattering to be linked with another job but it is pure speculation, that's all it is," Grayson told the Blackpool Gazette.

Fully focused

"I am fully focused on the summer ahead and getting the right players to Blackpool and trying to make sure that we survive once again in the Championship.

"All my plans are geared towards that and I have no thoughts for anything else.

"When players do well at a certain club and are successful then they are linked with other teams and it is the same with managers.

"It is just the way football is, but it doesn't mean it is going to happen."

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has revealed he will not stop manager Simon Grayson leaving Bloomfield Road to join another club.

Grayson has been linked with the vacant managerial role with his former club Leicester City following the recent dismissal of Ian Holloway.

"If Arsenal ring up and say 'we want Simon' I'll get him in the car and take him," Oyston told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"That's the world we're in, so there's no point anyone getting hysterical."

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston The 38-year-old became caretaker manager in November 2005 following Colin Hendry's departure.

He took over the role permanently before the start of the 2006-07 season and signed a new two-and-a-half year deal with the club last December.

After guiding Blackpool to 19th in the Championship last season - their first in the second tier of English football for 29 years - a number of clubs quickly realised Grayson's potential.

"If, and when, he feels he can further his career and it's a good opportunity then he'll be off," said Oyston. "But we want to try and give Simon the best chance to flourish."

"Every one of the three seasons he's had he's made some massive achievements.

"The first year he kept us up when we looked absolutely dead and buried. I still rate that as his biggest achievement because it's very difficult as a manager to bring in players to a club that's floundering," added the chairman.

"To retain Championship status this season has been fantastic. He's clearly very talented, committed and has a very good work ethic that he instils into the team."

Even excluding the fact that the best years of his playing career were spent here, we're an attractive move for an ambitious young manager like Larry. We may be a division below Blackpool right now, but they're likely to be among the favourites for relegation to League One, whereas we're likely to be among the favourites for promotion from it.

Also we're in a situation from which we can only improve, the man who masterminds that will be classed as a hero here which would either ensure him a long term position here (yes even under Milan) or, if not, make them a very attractive proposition at another big club.

Then there's the crowds and fanbase. Even in the position we were in we attracted an average of 23,500 whereas Blackpool couldn't even manage 9,000 at the highest level they've played for almost 30 years. Potentially we are a Premiership club, Blackpool's best realistic hopes are Championship survival. I think Larry's on his way back to City!

He seems to be by far the best candidate. He is the only one who really would be an exciting prospect.

We were a good club when he was here, and now we are a poor one, but in a very poor division. I reckon an up and coming manager is exactly what our hopefully up and coming club needs. Come one Simon, Please!

are people reading past the ARSENAL bit

to me it's a 'if an ambitious club comes in he can go'

surely offering him to us illustrates a lack of desire to progress the club and would not bode well with their fans

Ilive in Blackpool and all the Blackpool fans I know have just about resigned themselves to the fact that he could go, if not to us to somebody else. They are hugely embarrassed with the ground with its stands on two sides and Lego construction for an away stand and by the lack of investment on the field. Larry's done a great job wheeling and dealing but might be tempted by City's facilities, fan base and potential. He may have gone as far as he can with Blackpool and although we are Div 1 now he knows the setup and may relish the chance to do it with City. Depends on what sort of contract MM might offer him though.

mmm, yes he lived next door to one of my customers in whetstone when playing here!

Top guy, he never wanted to leave Leicester for Villa apparently, but the 1 million signing on fee swayed him!

I received a text from an old friend not more than an hour ago saying the same. Didn't post it as he's not always the most reliable - but maybe there is something in it?! :dunno:
