Back to the grim old days of British tennis aint we

Well beaten against a young Italian.

Was it ever this bad?

I can remember when I first started watching in the mid 90's we pretty much had no women in the main draw and our only British hope in the men's was Canadian / British.

Boulter's loss was her in a nutshell.  I think she has had a good career, career high of 23, 5 WTA titles including 2 500's but can't keep that level up for a decent period of time and has always struggled at Wimbledon, got to the 3rd round at Wimbledon but then blew it against Harriet Dart (who is generally crap).

But today's match summed it up, misfiring up and down serve, shots high wide and not handsome, the game was heavily influenced and decided by her unforced errors and misfiring serve.  8 double faults, less winners and more unforced errors, opportunity missed again, as she has had a better season and a good Queens.  Bouzkova (21) next, winnable, but sadly not for Leicester's finest.

Unfortunately it wasn't difficult to see this coming.

Deeply frustrating that with the resources available and the legacy of a great player as inspiration, next to nothing has been apparently built from either.

I'd totally forgotten Greg Rusedski!

Oh for the halcyon days of Jeremy Bates. Always good for a run to the 3rd round was our JB.

Wasn't it great to have a period of around ten years where there was a British player actually capable of winning a Wimbledon singles title?

Wins for Fery and Fearnley, Brits now on a roll

Arthur Fery is half French and British so might go better than most maybe?!

;)

Great comeback from Jacob Fearnley .

He has been on the ATP tour a bit but problem is can they make a step forward or just always be hovering around 100 with some good results but mainly nothing of note.

Fery has to contend with Shelton’s conqueror next, big opportunity for both.

Fearnley has had a massive drop off, from where he was ranked around this time last year. A winnable match next round, even though his next opponent just dumped out the Queens Champion, Cerundolo.
