Thracian Posted 27 June 2008 Posted 27 June 2008 I go away for a few days in Edinburgh and return to find players disappearing like water through a cullinder. It's like a footballing version of 10 Green Bottles... Except they don't seem to be accidentally falling. I hope Pearson's not come in and said "anyone who's unhappy can go" cos he might have a shock and find he's out there coaching himself come next Monday morning. It's been easy to collect what £4m for Stearman, McAuley, Hume but the trick is to buy better replacements or have better alternatives already waiting in the wings. I will be fascinated to see who we chose.

Well I've just got back from South Wales and I'm surprised it's only 2 (3 in total) I expected a few more to have gone by now, in fact I'm disappointed that there's so many left. Interestingly the only ones that are in demand are ones that arrived before Mandaric. As for alternatives waiting in the wings surely you know the Mandaric strategy by now it's called 'Flying by the seat of your pants system of management'

We had players here who didn't want to play for us last year but they were on Championship wages so that was good enough for them, We the same players here now (Barr the 3 that have gone) who don't want to play for us but there on League One wages now which in their opinion isn't good enough. Fuk em'. As said by almost everyone I don't believe any players goes out playing for any team to play bad or lose on purpose - not wanting to play for a club or not be bothered are different things. Basically we've had players that simply can't be arsed, ain't bothered, and don't really want to play for the club that much, as long as 'X' amount of thousand pounds are going into there account at the end of every week it's all good - We have seen where that has led us, This is the result of it, Why do it again or keep these players?!
Joinesy77 Posted 27 June 2008 Posted 27 June 2008 Cant see Mandaric givin Pearson much of the money back to spend on replacements. Am becoming more and more convinced Mandaric has given up on us and is just trying to get as much money back as possible. Unfortunately we havnt got rid of any of the deadwood we need to yet, its been the only good players we have that seem to be going. Am becoming less and less confident with every day that we will go straight back up.

I think your right on the transfer kitty, can't see Milan wanting to spend big after the disaster of last year, but to be honest, he shouldn't have to. You don't need to spend big to get out of this division, just play good football. I don't think milan's goin anywhere, i generally think he wants to make a success story of this club, if only for himself in the long run. We'll still go straight back up, let the ones that want to go, go. We need a complete fresh start.

Chairman of the Bored Posted 27 June 2008 Posted 27 June 2008 Let's treat each case on its merits: MCauley: good in the air, woeful distribution. £1m? Reasonable return for an average joe. Or should that be Gareth? Hume: all heart and soul; would die for the club, possibly, but didn't in the end; maybe the penalty miss against Sheffield Wednesday broke the wee guy; £1.2m good business there, I'd say. Best of luck to him Stearman: hit and miss; wanted him to stay - potential - but clearly the home town call got the better of his left ear. Much too early to say whether any of this is Pearson's doing, but he will be inclined to say "yes, Sir" at least until we are 20 points clear at Christmas and the fans are loving him. Let's see who comes and what they can do before we jump headlong to conclusions. You know it makes sense.
Daggers Posted 27 June 2008 Posted 27 June 2008 I hope Pearson's not come in and said "anyone who's unhappy can go" I bloody hope he has - I've always fancied supporting Lossiemouth FC

I will be fascinated to see who we chose. Better in what way? We have been relegated, and i don't think we can expect better players in terms of ability and or potential, but then those 3 could have been in promotion sides in my view. Not key players perhaps, but they are better than L1. That said I am not sure that potential is any use to use right now, we need delivery. We were always going to sell a few of the bigger names to make some cash. No surprises there.
Thracian Posted 27 June 2008 Author Posted 27 June 2008 I hope he has, the last thing we need is players here that don't want to be. Just because players are unhappy doesn't necessarily mean they don't want to be here. There were a multitude of reasons many of the players might have been unhappy last season.
MPH Posted 27 June 2008 Posted 27 June 2008 i think one reason why some more recent plaayers might be reluctant to go is because they are seasoned professionals who with be on wrather a chunky pay cheque.... MM will of made sure of that, even only one season on, they are the wrong side of 30 and wont be able ( maybe) to command so big a wage and so long a contract...
Corky Posted 27 June 2008 Posted 27 June 2008 It's a double-edged sword isn't it? Under Adams we used to moan that journeymen were getting one-year deals, bringing no long-term commitment. Then Levein, Kelly, Allen etc sign players on three-year deals, and after a few weeks we notice they are crap and can't get rid of them.

I will be fascinated to see who we chose. Not necessarily better replacements or better alternatives, but alternatives that will provide excellent contribution and value at a League One standard of play and pay. High-quality players are of shorter supply for Leicester this season. I doubt Leicester will find a right back that has Richard Stearman's ability and potential, but any right back that's good enough to help them win promotion to the Championship will do.

Jordan Posted 27 June 2008 Posted 27 June 2008 £4 million!!!I doubt we got half of that. If we do get all of it, those payments will be spread out over time ... but at least that can be used as collateral against some of the club's debts.
Head Honcho Posted 27 June 2008 Posted 27 June 2008 If we do get all of it, those payments will be spread out over time ... but at least that can be used as collateral against some of the club's debts. With or without adds ons 4m is still way off the mark!
Jordan Posted 27 June 2008 Posted 27 June 2008 With or without adds ons 4m is still way off the mark! Head Honcho, Please stop trying to fill my head with this realistic-estimate-of-how-much-transfer-funds-Leicester-City-received stuff. I really, really, really want to believe that Leicester City did receive 4 million this week (with all funds transferred immediately). In fact, I'd rather everybody suggest that the club received 8 or 9 million. That, and a hefty dose of valium, would make me feel a lot better.

It's like you don't sell your house until you find a new one because you will end up on the streets.
Thracian Posted 27 June 2008 Author Posted 27 June 2008 you've been banging the drum for some youngsters to be blooded ; well maybe now's the time Last season was THE time - before we got relegated!. But, forgetting that, while a number of people are now talking about giving our youngsters their chance, the situation is no longer as rosy as it was. Stearman has gone and Mattock is said to be going soon. Levi Porter and Billy Kee are recovering from long-term injury. Gradel's situation seems uncertain despite his long contract and there is no sign that Sheehan or Dodds will even be playing for us. So, in short, our brief chance of building a team around our most successful youth players has gone and someone has already rightly remarked on how hard it would be to do so from Division One with so many circling sharks, given that such a side would probably need two years to have a chance of securing promotion. Andy King, Conrad Logan and Ryan Beswick have a chance of breaking through (providing Pearson rates them which is by no means certain) but the remainder, Lathanial Rowe-Turner, Harry Worley, Billy McKay, Ashley Chambers, Lee Cox and the Sappzilla are all novices and hardly players who could be expected to lead us out of Division One just yet, if at all.
