Admit it- you're as thrilled as everyone else about this young Morrison lad.

Why would you wake up that early anyway?

Leicester City have made their first swoop of the summer with the signing of defender Michael Morrison from Cambridge United for an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old centre-half has signed a two-year contract and further signings are expected to be announced later today (Tuesday).

Morrison will meet up with his new team-mates for the first time this morning as the players report back for pre-season training.

Manager Nigel Pearson said: "Michael is a young, promising player and I am delighted to have him on board. "He's a lad who is going in the right direction and is hungry for success.

"He's played over 100 games for Cambridge, which at just 20 years of age is some achievement.

"He comes with some outstanding recommendations and I am looking forward to working with him."

Morrison progressed through the youth set-up at the Abbey Stadium, making his debut for the Reserves at the age of just 15 - the youngest ever Cambridge United player to do so.

He signed his first professional contract and made his Conference debut at the age of 17 and has been an almost ever present for the U's since - making a total of 115 appearances.

The player was courted by a number of higher-level clubs during his time with Cambridge - training with the likes of Everton, Preston, Newcastle United, Watford and Chelsea.

He was twice named Young Player of the Year - most recently at the end of the 2007-08 campaign.

From the OS.

I like the sound of this lad. BNP is off to a flyer.

I think there will be 4 more in today IMO.

Why is he being called BNP ^_^?

I'll have a guess then:

Adams, Pericard, moore or lucketti and a random we've never heard of.

Big Nigel Pearson. Hopefully he takes no shit, like it says on the tin.

Deeply tasteless.

The BNP are a pile of thick racist mother****ers - I am sure that Pearson would be delighted to be linked with them in such a praiseworthy and humorous fashion.

Pearson's onto a good'un here I feel. Some rave reviews flying about and getting youngsters is certainly better than getting 37 year olds.

It was more of a link towards that fact that Pearson has been an unpopular appointment, just like the BNP would be for many, including myself before anyone accuses me of racism.

The only thing that worries me is that he plays non-league football, we've had these kind of signings before (rememeber that Kevin Ellison guy?) He couldn't even break into our reserves. Anyway welcome to the club and good luck :)

That was when we were in the Prem. We are two divisions below there now, and Kevein Ellison has had a decent career in t league one and two since his time with Leicester. I think the Morrison deal is good for him and good for us, and Cambridge have been skint for years so it's a good deal for them too.

I like the fact he's played over 100 games and he's only 20. Tells me he's quite a consistent player.

He's our very own Richard Stearman.

Like any other player coming in during the summer, I feel nothing about this signing. There's no hype, there's no history - there's nothing to get excited about.

That doesn't make it a bad signing but I'll wait to see if he offers us anything after a few games before being pleased.

<sarcasm> Hopefully Mandaric hasn't automatically plopped him on £25,000 per year and a four-year contract. </sarcasm>

Glad to see someone up and coming and not here for the money and a last pay day, he will see us as a stepping stone to bigger and better things, either with us or with someone else in the long run.

At least he'll be a hungry youngster rather than an old has been thats just at Leicester for the money.

Not a bad signing although will have to see him play before we can fully judge

:o

Uh oh.

Who's the guy in your sig and has he been reported to coming to Leicester or is it a crazy dream of yours?

James Troisi? Fairly well-regarded Newcastle prospect, plays as a winger or a striker, who let it go to his head a bit, got released at the end of the season and is probably going to pop up in Serie A from what I've heard.

Brewer fox, did he play at the home leg of the play-offs semi?

Ha! He did!

Well I wouldn't expect much of him, their defence look generally very leaky against an average Burton Albion.

Would be interesting to see how he performs with some good players though.
