Filberts lovechild Posted 22 July 2008 Posted 22 July 2008 I'm happy enough, I didn't want to see lots of players arriving because I want to see the younger lads given a chance. For me I think we still need a left back, hopefully as cover for Mattock, worst case as a replacement. I like James Chambers but I only want to see him on the right. I think we could do with an experienced centre back on loan until Kisnorbo comes back. Hopefully by that stage we'll be looking good for promotion and he'll be happy enough to stay. If not we should ship him out and replace him in January. I'm more concerned with what we haven't shipped out. Up front I want to see Ash Chambers involved a lot and I'd still like to see Fryatt come good and believe this really could be the season for him. For me that means we should be looking to get rid of at least one of Howard or DJ (wouldn't mind seeing them both leave and us sign one more striker to replace them). Hayles clearly has to go too. In midfield Weso could really dominate in this league and I'm keen to see King given a chance to see what he can do. With Other options in the centre too I think we need to see one of Oakley or Clem leave to relieve the wage bill. Wings we are clearly covered. Need to see N'Gotty go too. We should be rebuilding not hanging onto older players who clearly have no long term future at the club. Errrm what's the point in bringing on a loan player when we clearly have an experienced head at the back. I reckon Ngotty will really do some damage this season!!
act smiley Posted 22 July 2008 Posted 22 July 2008 Personally, I like the players we've brought in. I think we're probably lacking a left back and a striker in the big, quick and hard-working mould. Up front is obviously the confusing position as we've got a bunch of strikers who have all been successful at this level yet utterly gash for us previously. Personally, I'd like to see us get rid of Howard and Baz, and pair up aforementioned big-quick-grafter with DJ or Chambers. On the "players out" front, well, I don't think we've made any glaring mistakes, but I think N'Gotty is possibly a bit surplus to requirements. I can't imagine both Oakley and Clemence would be here come the start of the season and I can't say that would bother me at all. As for Hellings, can we just loan him out to someone until his contract expires or something? To be honest, I really don't care about him - as long as he's not causing issues in the dressing room he doesn't strike me as worth fussing over as he's unlikely to be on the astronomical wages we're probably paying N'Gotty.
Babylon Posted 22 July 2008 Posted 22 July 2008 I reckon Ngotty will really do some damage this season!! For us or the opposition?
Filberts lovechild Posted 22 July 2008 Posted 22 July 2008 For us or the opposition? Could go either way
Daggers Posted 22 July 2008 Posted 22 July 2008 I reckon Ngotty will really do some damage this season!! For us or the opposition? To himself more like as not.
brookfox Posted 22 July 2008 Posted 22 July 2008 We let in 4 goals against Hinkley and 2 against some non entity team abroad. In defence of Worley and Morrison we only conceded 1 in the half they played against Hinckley and looked a far more compsed duo at the back. Are they good enough, only 1 way to find out, wait and see them play once the season has started!
iancognito Posted 22 July 2008 Posted 22 July 2008 I'm happy with the ins so far but Howard, Clemence and N'Gotty will free up an extra few pence in the kitty to get a midfield general and a striker. Hopefully our new scouting network (or Bob, Ted, Bill & Stevo from The Bricklayers Arms as they are more commonly known) will spot the final pieces to the 'how to get the fu<k out of this division' puzzle
DanTheFox07 Posted 22 July 2008 Posted 22 July 2008 Still to early to tell about our signing`s I think potential wise morrison will be develop into A quality player over the season! Everyone is unsure over Tunchev which is fair enough since weve signed more than our fair share of duds for example kaebi, the lascko and bori. Dyer looks like a very shrewd buy to me, for me we really lacked any class on the wings last season and service to our strikers was very, very poor! hopefully this will change with having dyer/gradel(my first choice to start season) then Porter, chambers, adams etc in reserve. Still agree with other posts that we lack a striker with power, pace, strength etc! more of an overall package is needed don`t think dickov is the answer like others do and then I would be very suprised if we didn`t loan/buy a new keeper b4 start of the season. I think Henderson and Logan from what ive seen are both liable to make mistakes, not sure if were still trying to get bywater in? but im sure pearson is in the market for a keeper.
lookwhaticando Posted 23 July 2008 Posted 23 July 2008 Happy, on balance. Would prefer to see more of the rubbish shipped out... as any sane support would.
J.Lisemore Posted 23 July 2008 Posted 23 July 2008 I think the players we have signed look promising but still in my opinion we need a keeper to challenge Hendo and a striker who can actually put the ball in the back of the net. But on the other hand would like to see some more of the deadwood sold or released that took us down last year.
Ric Flair Posted 24 July 2008 Posted 24 July 2008 I am slightly concerned that Pearson doesn't think we need any further signings. I think up to 6-8 players (N'Gotty, Hayes, Hayles, Hellings, DJ/Howard, Clemence/Oakley) need to be moved on and 3 or 4 new ones need to be added.
demon_dog Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 So we sign yet another defender. Personally I would prefer to see us get a decent striker, don't think the one's up front at the moment are really up to it. They have not really showed their striking prowess in the few friendlies we have played so far. Hate to go into the new season without someone who can score goals on a regular basis.

I agree about a striker but our defence is all about potential. We don't know that Mattock will stay, we have the unknown Bulgarian who maybe ok or be be crap,an over the hill 36 year old, a loanee from Arsenal whose career has at best stagnated and if anything gone backwards and 3 rookies with less than 15 professional league appearances between them. We have also conceded quite a few goals so far in pre-season so I think it is the right thing to do to have as many options as possible.
Candidcamera Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 We needed centre backs but how many ? Midfield still a bit light weight and no leader unless a new man already here. Up front I'm really worried but Chambers and another would be good. Signings have been youngsters and potentially good and hungry to do well.
Dames Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 Would like to see a left back and another pair of wingers. Just to be safe.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 I'm very happy. Been holding out to voice my opinion cos I feel many people jump in after one or two signings have been made and they haven't even kicked a ball in a blue shirt (the player's in the blue shirt, not the ball ). I particularly like that he is making use of his experience and aquintances acquired during his time in the England U-21 set up to bring in potentially exciting young players, albeit mostly on season long loans. Looking forward to tonking the Dons in 2 weeks time!
