Trav Le Bleu Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 You Maggie dissers should be ashamed of yourselves. I thoought she was lovely, and if she lived near me I'd probably have a restraining order on me quicker than it takes to spell her surname correctly Gylanhall... Gyllanhall... Gillenhal... Gyllenhall... Gylanhal... Gylanhaal... Gyllenhall... Gyllanhal... Indeed, it seems more likely that I will have a restraining order on me faster than I can spell her surname... and I don't even fancy her!

Mort Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Agree with all those saying this was an ace film and that Ledger did a great job with the role of the joker – both charismatic and unnerving which must be a very difficult thing to do however good an actor/actress is. At the same time I think it benefited from a really arresting narrative and script that gave it real strength and kept your attention throughout. And the visuals were great giving Gotham a real sense of 'place' and making it seem a very real city -although i think they could have retained some of the bleakness the City had in Batman Begins (and the monorail), but it gave the whole thing a sense of reality and solidity that you never got with the Burton films. The one thing I thought a bit disjointed was Dent’s transformation into ‘two face’ which seemed a bit rushed – but the film was already over two hours long and Nolan can only do so much with the time he has I suppose.
Libertine Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Maggie Gyllenhaal is shwing. End of discussion. And cheers for spoiling it Singh.

But that's just it! It's an adaption of a comic book, it's fantasy! It shouldn't look real and that spoilt it, the same as Gimli answering his mobile in The Two Towers would (though you can see him drop it as they run across the Ridermark! )
maddog Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Saw this yesterday, absolute quality. Right from the start when all the criminals are shooting eachother robbing the bank it's awesome. The joker was amazing, if Heath don't get an oscar for that it will be unbelieveable, massive shame Heath won't be back to play joker again, and if there is another sequal with Joker the new actor will have a tough, tough job, although i suppose he could just copy exactly how Heath played it, and with the make up, clothes etc he wouldn't look much different. Quality, the first film i have ever seen where i would pay a second time to watch it at the cinema again.
Ozwin Posted 30 July 2008 Author Posted 30 July 2008 Probably a long shot but I'll ask anyway. Does anyone have any of the Batman Graphic Novels which they'd be willing to sell? I've been looking for them since the film was released as I want to check out more of where it came from but they're so hard to find at a reasonable price. PM me or post here if you do
Asha Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 WALL-E!!!!!!!!! Watched this today, against my wishes. Sat in a cinema filled with kids, and heard the one behind me (about 5) say to his mom 'this is booorinnnnng' And it was, it was shit. Would love to know why you liked it.
Samilktray Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 The whole cinema clapped at the end... can't say much more. I'm in love.
Bryn Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 Fantastic. I'm no film conoisseur so the only way I can critique a film is; second by second, was I entertained? Second by second, was I convinced by the actors? I can step that up to "Was I blown away by the actors?". And the last one is, does the plot hold up? All three are favourable. There really isn't a boring moment, it's all entertaining and fantastic. All performances were excellent and Ledger really does blow you away - you miss him when he isn't on screen, he is captivating. And the plot is solid and provides the bassline for all the action. A truly memorable film.
Mr Happy Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 But that's just it! It's an adaption of a comic book, it's fantasy! It shouldn't look real and that spoilt it, the same as Gimli answering his mobile in The Two Towers would (though you can see him drop it as they run across the Ridermark! ) But when you compare The Dark Knight to other graphic novel film adaptions like X-Men, Spiderman and even (this will get me a berating but) the Tim Burton's Batman film, I find that the quality of The Nolan Batman franchise is far superior. Not only does it have a quality inspirational soundtrack but the acting is far less camp and it is 'darker' in its surroundings and themes. Heath's Joker has a serious life-like feel which is creepy considering what he says makes perfect sense and he wouldn't be out of place in our world and thats what Nolan is aiming for with this film. So Gotham City is fictional (its suppose to be NY's darker side, whilst metropolis was NY's daytime) and so is Batman but TDK had a real sense of can we fit Batman in our society and IMO it works. I felt that Batman Begins had already estabilished the batman character enough to enable him to share/take a slight back seat with Heath's Joker and what with the interogation scene I seriously don't see how Nolan could of made him any darker. The Batman animations focus mainly on his detective skills whereas TDK did briefly but mainly IMO the fine line between the dark side of a hero and the dark side of villainy and how far pass the line he was willing to go. Plus lets face it you met the black suited spiderman down a dark alley you'd laugh, you met Bale's Batman down a dark alley you'd run
Samilktray Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 The only shame is that if they decide on doing a third there wont be a Joker, unless they recast and i can't see them taking that risk due to just how good Heath Ledger was.
