Filberts lovechild Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 Hendo/Logan Chambers Hobbs Tunchev Mattock Gradel Adams Oakley Dyer Fryatt DJ Don't know which is worse Hendo or Logan but that is pretty much the team i would pick
Lichfieldfox. Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 Interesting that no one has selected Morrison at CB? I suspect because all reports before Fez's excellent post had suggested his isn't ready yet. I too have not managed a pre-season game. What appears to be true is most of the established players appear keen and hungry with the new additions giving us some new options. I'm hopeful a rebuild is beginning with a diverse set of options. Just hope Pearson gets the blend right.
reynard Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 After this pre season I'm really not sure what our starting line up should be and I suspect pearson doesn't know for sure either. Personally I think we have to start (injuries permitting) the games vs Bham and palace with the team which will play vs MKDons. The time for experiments is over. The two centre halves are key positions and it is vital they pair get the chance to play together as mch as possible whover they are. The same applies to the strikers. These two pairs need to bulid up an understanding on the pitch and from what I can see we simply don't have this yet. There don't seem to be many certs except probably henderson in goal and on present form Adams surely has to start. mattock is the only option at left back for me. My main area of concern is at centre half. With Kisnorbo out and N'gotty seemingly past it we have potentially a really good young pair or potentially an inexperienced and potentially goal conceding young pair. The reports on Morrison sugest he's going to be the one to miss out.
GianEmmo Zola Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 GK - Paul Henderson DL- Joe Mattock DR - Kerrea Gilbert DC - Michael Morrison DC - Jack Hobbs ML - Nicky Adams MR - Max Gradel MC - Matt Oakley © MC - James Wesolowski FW - Matty Fryatt FW - Stevie Howard Bench - Logan, JChambers, Kishishev, King, AChambers, DJ Campbell, Hayles, Worley, Tunchev, Dyer, Porter, Sappleton Not put Tunchev in , because ive not seem him play, its like last year when Kaebi was getting in peoples sides and they had not even seen him play!
David Guiza Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 Hendo Chambers Morrison,Tunchev Hobbs Mattock Adams / Gradel for last 20ish minutes Wesowloski Oakley © Dyer i didnt think he was to good yesterday either Fryatt Campbell,Hayles
SamL Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 anyone know what the prices are at the gate? They're the same as if you purchased before the game I think.
Spiritwalker Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 Based on the pre-season games so far what does everyone think the team will be for Birmingham?I only went to the Quorn game but from what everyone has said i think it should be: GK:Henderson RB:Gilbert CB:Hobbs CB:Tunchev LB:Mattock RM:Adams CM:Oakley© CM:Wesolowski LM:Dyer ST:Fryatt ST:Campbell I definately think that Henderson should start in goal. Gilberts the obvious choice at right-back. Hobbs another obvious choice at the back. Tunchev should get his chance i think. Mattock is basically the only choice we've got. Adams at right mid seems to work well with Gilbert down the right. Oakley and Wesolowski for me in the middle Oakley can pass very well and Wesolowski can break up the play well. Dyer is an obvious choice for me on the left wing Fryatt and Campbell as they seem to be the only strikers interested. I think Gradel should come on with 20 minutes to go and get behind the tired defences and score some goals. Your Thoughts? I would go with this team against Birmingham and M.k although it would be nice to find a place for Gradel That was the first time I had seen him on Saturday and he reminds me of Shaun Wright Phillips

Spiritwalker Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 Interesting that no one has selected Morrison at CB? I didn't think he was that bad .Maybe he's been built up a bit and people were expecting too much from him. He's still a young player and I think he will turn out to be a good signing given time.
Thracian Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 I think the best strike partnership is Fryatt and DJ. I honestly don't know if that's the case - there's no question Howard would score goals at this level - but I would like to find out abou Campbell/Fryatt in a meaningful game. To me our strength now is skill, pace and passing and there seems no reason not to play to it. I'm not against powerhouse centre-forwards but could you imagine Gradel putting in a deep (too deep as it happened) cross and Shearer not being anywhere to be seen. That's what happened at Kettering and when he played the crosses shorter there was still no-one attacking the near post. Are the coaches even working on it? I've seen no evidence but if we really are going to get the best out of what are definitely proper wingers by Diision One standards, it's elementary to have both front and far post targets. Not two empty spaces. Ideally you'd have a ghost runner coming in too like Adams (for his header) or King. But Kingy's starting to bother me. And if he were my repsonsibility I'd speak to him in no uncertain terms. Put Kingy in as reserves captain - in other words in a situation where he has a bit of status - and he tries things. He gets himself forward, takes people on, plays quick one-two's and scores/makes goals. Put him in with the first team and he becomes just another holding player. There was a brilliant example at Kettering where had time and space 30 yards out, could have attacked the Kettering defence and perhaps made something happen. That's exactly what he would have done against Quorn but instead he turned away and simply retained possession by giving the responsibility to someone else. He looked more concerned about not making mistakes and thus risking blowing his chances than showing exactly what he can do. Someone really has got to give him the confidence to play his own game and do what he's good at. There's no question he's capable. But with the first team for company he becomes inhibited. Gradel, by contrast deosn't give a shit. If he doesn't make something happen the first time he tries again and again and again until he does. He and Kingy will never be similar in style but Kingy could sure do with some of Gradel's attitude. Even when Campbell shouted at Gradel for not playing the ball to his feet Gradel sounded off back to the effect that Campbell had made a run towards the wing but had stopped. In other words, having made the run, Gradel had passed the ball to where Campbell was going. It was Campbell's hard luck that he stopped the run. Happily the two were soon back in unison within minutes.
Spiritwalker Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 Wouldn't he be better coming off the bench and getting at the tired defences? Maybe, but I'd still like to see him on for 90mins to see what he can do.
Bryn Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 Henderson Gilbert Hobbs Morrison MattockAdams Wesolowski Oakley DyerHoward Fryatt Is what I believe it will be. I reckon there's some issue with Tunchev, would be really, really nice to get some clarification from the OS. Signing Gilbert Tunchev Hobbs MattockGradel Wesolowski Oakley AdamsCampbell Fryatt Is what I'd quite like to see. Signing of a GK not that important tho.
mmarkie Posted 27 July 2008 Author Posted 27 July 2008 Why does everyone not include Dyer in their teams i mean it's one game he has not impressed the crowd in but in the topic that Fez posted he said that Nigel Pearson was happy with Dyer trying to take players on and thats something we have been lacking over the years someone like Dyer and Gradel and Adams who like taking people on and getting the ball into the box.
kingfox Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 Henderson Gilbert - Hobbs - Morrison - Mattock Adams - Oakley - Wesolowski - Gradel Campbell - Fryatt
renards Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 anyone know what the prices are at the gate? can you pay at the gate/turnstile?
renards Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 HendersonGilbert - Hobbs - Morrison - Mattock Adams - Oakley - Wesolowski - Gradel Campbell - Fryatt Just can't see that working. On their day they can both be just ok. Both light weight and feck about too much and drift in and mostly out of games. A half decent defence would push Campbell offside, still like to see Howard and Chambers given part of a game
clazkel Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 Fryatt and Chambers or Fryatt and Sappleton will be the best striker partnership (i think)
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 On the radio it sounded as if a DJ/Fryatt partnership would be worth experimenting with.
clazkel Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 On the radio it sounded as if a DJ/Fryatt partnership would be worth experimenting with. Yeah it would be, but having seen Fryatt and Chambers second half against Hinkley they played and linked up well, and having seen Sappleton against Quorn he is very strong and postive when coming forward and that would suit Fryatt as the ball will be played on the floor rather than long balls being knocked onto him. DJ and Fryatt is worth a go as they both looked sharp when playing together yesterday, but what i don't understand is why Fryatt was taken off for Howard, Pearson must still be deciding. And why did Morrison play the full game, is it because Pearson hasn't made his mind up about him yet?
Bert Posted 27 July 2008 Posted 27 July 2008 Hendo Gilbert----Tunchev----Hobbs----Mattock Gradel----Oakley----Jimbo----Adams Fryatt----DJ
