What are everyone's thoughts on Dyer?

A direct tricky winger who likes to try and take his man on, fairly good delivery, but not the quickest.

He's supposed to be really pacey :o

Only see him play once yesterday so cant really say but he looked fast and skinny !

It's inconclusive so far but he doesn't seem to have the real pace necessary to get behind defenders nor the mishcievous adventure and determination of Gradel to find a way through one way or another.

I would definitely want to see Adams one side and Gradel the other with Porter helping to supply both and being given a fairly free reign in doing so.

Always has his shorts on the wrong way round.

If he came close enough, I would've told him so :P

yesterday was the first time i've seen him and he looked useless.

lol. He never really got the ball enough to do anything. He will be good.

On a more relevant note. I like what Dyer has done so far. Not always spectacular, but compared to what we've played wide left over the pas few seasons, including the likes of Newton, he's doing well. As Fez pointed out in his thread, Pearson wants him to run at defenders. That's a good thing in my book. For years now we've been without someone who's willing to penetrate the line and get a ball over.

It's not just his directness though, he's quite inteligent. Against Luton especially, his runs were clever and it got him his goal. He got into posistions where defenders didn't want him, they couldn't hack it as a result.

Porter will offer him some good competition I reckon. Also, depending on the form of Adams, Gradel could be competing for that posistion.

I think that's what has made pre-season so refreshing. Last year creativity was non-existent.

Will you not leave the Porter playing in a free role Thacian! Sorry mate, i know and you know its not going to happen!

I know you are a fan of Porter and you have your the right to your own opinion which is fair enough, but come on, look at him against quorn, he was very average and yes he can pass and is quite skillfull but is far too slow and small/weak to play a high standard, i think he is Conference at best!

Yes this is just my opinion which you dont agree with but im farly confident i will be proved right, i even think if Dyer is injured or doesnt play i dont even think Porter will play, think Perason will play adams or Dyer there instead.

Just my opinion but I thought Porter was excellent against Quorn. His touching and passing were both exquisite, as was some of his dribbling.

Not seen him for us, but i remeber watching him a couple of times for WBA.

Looked pacey with no end product then.

Only seen him at Luton and quite hard to make a definite judgement based on that game. He looked lively and didn't miss the sitter that came his way. I think he'll do alright for us in this division.

I only saw him against Hinckley but he looked fairly sharp and good on the ball.

Massive role in the first couple of goals.

I think he'll give us a great option on the left over the season.

Is this the same small/weak guy who had blinder against Chelsea? Porter may be small in stature but he looks as strong as anyone in possession and for any guy to be so influential and to help make three goals so soon after his return from major injury is a statement it itself. He also made two goals in the 20 minutes he had against Hinckley.

The question in my mind isn't whether Porter is good enough for first team football - his record of goals/assists in his first season already pays testimony to his usefulness - it is whether he should be coinsidered principally as a left-sided midfield player or a central midfielder.

He'll be valuable whatever but I just think his strengths are more suited to the old inside-left position than as an out-and-out winger.

Whatever, I'm no more a fan of Porter than Gradel or Adams or even Dyer who has not had chance to fully establish himself or otherwise just yet. All of these players are different class from some of the no-hopers who've occupied our wing positions in recent times.

Together and individually they give us far more creative potential than we've had for years and I hope, in the fullness of time, that all four play a worthwhile part. And I'd imagine Pearson thinks so too. Because the abilities of those four and the positions they can occupy will be the very least of his worries.
