Martin started his career as a youth-team player with Tottenham Hotspur where he originally played as defender.[1] He moved to Wimbledon in 2003, and moved to Milton Keynes Dons in August 2004 when Wimbledon were relocated to Milton Keynes and renamed. He made his debut in 2004 and went on to make 25 appearances for the club, including 15 league appearances.

After a successful trial period,[2] he signed for Liverpool on 12 January 2006. He was an unused substitute in Liverpool's Carling Cup game against Reading on 25 October 2006.[1] In his first season playing for Liverpool Reserves he kept eight clean sheets out of 13 starts, and became a regular starter in the reserve team. And when Charles Itandje was injured he was an unused substitute in a number of first team matches.[3]

On 23 February 2007 he was signed by Football League Two club, Accrington Stanley on loan for a month.[4] However, he was injured within five minutes of his debut, without even touching the ball, against Lincoln City, damaging his ankle which ruled him out for the rest of his loan spell and he returned to Liverpool.[5] After regaining his fitnes he returned to Accrington on loan for the rest of the season,[6] making his comeback in a 1–0 win over Torquay United,[7] and helping the club avoid relegation to the Conference National.[8]

On 6 November 2007 Martin was on the bench when Liverpool beat Turkish club, Beşiktaş 8–0 at Anfield in their UEFA Champions League group match.[9] He was a member of the Liverpool reserve team which was Premier Reserve League Northern champions and Premier League National champions in the 2007-08 season.[citation needed] In May 2008 he signed a new contract with Liverpool until June 2010.[1] Later that month he was linked, along with his brother, Joe to a season-long loan move to Football League Championship club Blackpool.[10]

[edit] International career

Martin played for the England under-17 at the UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship in 2003.[11] He played for the England under-19 team at the UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship in 2005, when England were runners-up to France Under 20's in the final held at Windsor Park, Belfast Northern Ireland.[12] He has also been capped once by the England under-20 team.[1]

Logan ain't up to it.

Hope Hendo is number one though.

I don't understand this attitude, nobody has seen him play and yet they hope Henderson stays as No.1.

Whatever you think of any player in the squad I would hope that we could get someone in who is better, this doesn't neccesarily apply to the younger players as a loan player may dishearten them, but it certainly does with players over 30 years of age.

Besides, in case you hadn't noticed, I think Henderson is awful.

Helps that Hobbs has played with him before, makes communication amongst a very young defence a little more easier to start off with.

"You don’t win anything with kids…"

"At my age, gaining first team experience is of paramount importance and that's why I have come to Leicester," said the England Youth international.

So, I believe he's not anticipating just warming the bench. Should Hendo be worried, or indeed does this guy justify replacing him?

We have Henderson as our, 'experienced' goalkeeper, & a few young goalkeepers.

As Tabou said, bringing in another young up & coming goalkeeper is not exactly going to fill Logan & Cisak with confidence.

Don't think this signing is neccesary.

Logan hasn't exactly had execellant reports when he was at Stockport, more known for his mistakes.

Henderson had a very good end of season last year, but games such as Forest, Southampton and Qpr, made me not want to see him in a City shirt again.

Cisak and Pentney, I haven't seen too much about them. But Carl look poor against Quorn and I think they both need more experiance.

Good singing. Spot on Pearson.

I'm surprised nobody has raised concerns that he hasn't been a goalie all of his life, there's usually the odd moron who will claim that he must be crap if he only became a goalie about 6 years ago.

I think Hendo will start against MK Dons

And Martain will start against Stockport in Carling Cup

So we get to see what they have to offer

Though Martain must be pretty decent if Liverpool have signed him till 2012

Pointless. He says he came here for first team experience - I want Hendo to stay in the first team and why would he be better cover than Logan or someone?
