Cheese Me Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 Sav was my favourite player 8 or 9 years ago - I loved his intensity and the way he always gave 100%. I'm also sentimental and generally quite pleased by rumours of returning players so in principle I wouldn't mind this. However - I'm also a big fan of the way we're rebuilding with young hungry players and hopefully allowing more of our talented youngsters to come through so even with the mitigating factors above which would probably make me one of the fans most likely to want him back I think it would probably be a mistake. Sorry Sav, just not sure this is the team for you anymore.
Daggers Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 Only in that he was a factor. One player in a team of incompetants run by an idiot for a board of morons supported by a selection of negative, abusive idiots. As I said, the suggestion that he is responsible for the failings of a team is akin to blaming Archduke Ferdinand's driver for the outbreak of the first world war for doing nothing more than turn down the wrong street on the wrong day.
Lovejoy Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 I thought he was off to blackburn with Ince Staying put for now. I believe he's agreed a new contract (in principle).

That driver WAS responsible for the start of the first world war, and has the blood of millions of people on his hands, as the perpetrator of the dastardly crime had given up on the assassination plot and was making his way away from the route, then could not believe his luck when the car took a wrong turn straight into his path. So in essence had the driver been focused and aware on that day alot more people would be walking around TODAY (desendants). Its not the cars that kill its the drivers, as true then as it is now !!! Had I been the minister of transport in Sarajevo at the time the equivalent of "The Knowledge" would of be a prerequisite even for the few drivers there were at the time. Yours ibbosuk (GURU)

Phlashman Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 Doesn't mean much though does it? A week ago we'd lost out on Dickov, now it looks like we've got him.
eaststandtom Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 could be something in it then reading into what milan says. derby dismiss it but milan doesnt. interesting. taking away, the poncey blonde hair, annoying primadonna stuff, kissing his brum badge when they scored down here and what you have is a guy who ran himself into the ground for city. whilst izzet and lennon got the credit i still have never seen anyone try harder on a football pitch than savage. i think he maybe lost that with his 'big moves' but for city under o'neill he was integral for 2-3 seasons. enthusiastic and a nuisance. headless chicken sure but a massive tryer. if he can do that again i say get him in but on our terms not his

It's ridiculous. And Savage has just got a ridiculous running style, that's why he looked like he was trying so hard. He just can't run.
Guest Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 Surely though, Lisa, if money were his main priority he wouldn't have taken a pay cut to leave Blackburn for the Sheepshaggers. His demands may only be the salary he gets there. Maybe he's not worth what he's being paid currently, just like he wasn't worth what Blackburn were paying him, l444ry. It's alright making wage demands when your career is on the up, l444ry, but making them once you've started the slippery slope into football obscurity is a bit cheeky. It's not like there are clubs banging on the door to take him on.

Sav knew he would be playing div 1 football this year with the scumbagshaggers. Jewell must not rate him anymore! Sav was great for LCFC too many people have forgotten that he never let us down whilst playing for us. In other colours however he has shat on us! I don't care anyway if he comes I will sing 1 robbie Savage if he does not i will remember him for the great player he WAS!

He just can't run. agreed! tiatto was the bane of my life for 3 years. savage, when at city, actually made use of his presence. closing down, tackling well, covering so much ground. tiatto was just a thug with a short temper. whether savage could played like he did remains to be seen but if a loan was on the cards it could be worth the risk. savage certainly was not a top 'footballer' but i wouldnt lump him in with tiatto izzet, lennon wouldnt have been as much as a success with tiatto so i think comparing him to tiatto is unfair cheers

Sorry Sav, just not sure this is the team for you anymore. much the same as i feel about this, i'd love to know why so many people hate savage now, he's hardly even played us since he left...fact is, he was one of the greatest cult figures we have had, especially for my generation, i'd like to think he could come back for a final swansong for a club that he must be genuinely fond of, where he played his most succesful football - maybe not, but stranger things have happened. ...that said, if i was mandy i would be pretty strict with the budget for his salary... - oh, and lets not rule out the possibility that he was crap for derby cause they were a very poor side, compared to when he played for us, not to mention the obvious sabotage job he was doing from the inside

Sav knew he would be playing div 1 football this year with the scumbagshaggers. Jewell must not rate him anymore! Because he is on so much money he is bankrupting the Scum, he refuses to train because he was dropped and has had a bust-up with Jewell.

SamL Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 Because he is on so much money he is bankrupting the Scum, he refuses to train because he was dropped and has had a bust-up with Jewell. Surely they knew they'd be relegated with a fairly big wage bill due to Savage's big wage?

They may have had a bust-up or Jewell isn't impressed with his attitude, whatever When I saw him last season he looked lost and past it.
Toby or not Toby Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 Hope this dont go on like Hasslebaink situation last year. We all know what happened there
FilboFox Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 What a load of crap... if Savage isn't good enough in training and isn't putting the effort in at Derby, why the **** should be be willing to take him on!?!!! We need players who want to graft to get this team back to the top and it clearly looks like he isn't the sort of person who would do that. I've got a suspicion that Dickov would be just the same... both are looking to prolong their fading careers and get a few more bob in the bank before they have to retire. As for Mandaric... KEEP YOUR ****ING HANDS OUT OF TEAM AFFAIRS YOU GREAT TW*T!!!!!!

If you play a non scoring, non creative midfielder in a team that has no wingers and which struggles to score anyway you're asking for trouble however combative that player may be.

You want to be thankful that MM is putting his hand in his pocket while we are in this division. As for that last line he does not deserve that.

Which was never in question, or arguing against my point. Which was...I believe that in this league more than the other two we'd hope to play in we need a bit of substance in midfield as they are going to be physically targeted. Those we have that aren't injury prone are slight in stature. We have the creative dynamism, we need a Savage-like player as well. Whether that be Savage or someone else is not of importance to me although I think he can do a job for us for a season. I'll add on - I don't think there is a chance in hell he'll come here.
