Sods Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 Agreed. When Adams came on, I was pleased to see him and Lloyd switch wings which is something Pearson should try when Gradel is playing. When Gradel is playing on the right, he's looking to cut inside on his left foot all the time and he simply hasn't got a left foot. Lloyd's obviously made the left wing his own position but it'd be nice to rotate both wingers a little. They didn't techinqually swap wings. Pearson went for a 3-3-1-2 formation. With Adams just sitting behind. Berner on the left Llyody on the right. Adams changed the game in my opinion, he did it at Orient as well. He deserves a chance at starting but is he one of these players who has only impact as a sub. Only time will tell.

It is hard to learn your trade as a winger at leicester, we say we like them but whenever a winger tries to beat his man and loses the ball there are collective groans. if you want your wingers to do something different, don't be surprised when it doesn't come off. If dribbling past players was easy then you'd see people doing it all the time. He's still a boy, hes talented yet inconsistent. Lets give him a chance. As for Howard, there is simply no alternative at the club so get behind him.

I just give up, clearly no one will agree with me and anything i say. Hayles and Adams didn't change the game no? Id rather see Hayles play 60 minutes and Howard subed on. I don't hate howard i don't boo or swear at him at the games, i just think he is a drain on the team. Myself and many people around me at the ground today were saying Adams should come on for Gradel as it was obvious Gradel wasn't getting past players and kept losing the ball (i thought the change would happen at half time tho). I thought bringing Hayles on for Howard was the right move aswell. I would like to see Fryatt up front with Hayles, Dickov ir Chambers (when fit). Howard has played well this season but i feel we don't play to his strengths, and therefore we don't look much of a threat up front. It seems that when Howard plays our plan is to get the ball to the wingers to put a ball in the box or knock a long ball for Howard to knock down and i don't think it is the best way to play. If you play 2 creative players up front we can play the ball through midfield more often, as at the moment with Howard and Fryatt up front we are very predictable and teams have got us sussed, Gradel is frustrating, its great that he has the confidence to try and take players on but more often than not he loses the ball. At this moment in time i think Adams is a better option. Gradel is a good impact player to have on the bench I would like Hayles and Adams to start Tues for Howard and Gradel. I don't know if Howard is a drain on the team but i feel when he plays the way we set the team out to play doesn't work, we should have all the midfielders making runs not just the wingers

After a few suspect games, King stepped up to the mark yesterday. Before yesterday, I might have agreed with dropping him, but after yesterdays performance I think he deserves to keep his place. After all, we don't have any better options do we?

He's been built up since about two days after we were relegated as a saviour of the club and the jewel in the crown. A bit of perspective is needed sometimes, same as with the team, he'll have off days, he'll get teams doubling up on him and it won't always work. When he's on form he's great but lets not hammer the guy for having an off day.

You've obviously forgotten Dyer's one-v-one. People mention the hype about Gradel but he's always been a bit hit and miss and, as I've said before, needs to be given more freedom and particularly in changing flanks. He doesn't need a rest cos he's not played enough but he does need decoy runners and support which is not the case at the moment. That's not meant in any way to deflect from his indifferent form yesterday and on other occasions recently. But it's important to know how to get the best out of people and when we do that with Gradel - and when he finally scores - people will finally see what a smashing player he is. Gradel wasn't the only suffer yesterday. Dyer was largely neutralised too and partly for the same reason. He needs people running of him to make the defender's decision-making difficult. Not only the full-back but a midfielder and someone up front like McKay. Our of-the-ball running is kindergarten stuf or totally non-existent. Which is one of the reasons we looked so much more lively when Howard went off. People thinking that Adams is the Holy Grail should think again. He was clearly intent oin making a point yesterday and good luck to him. Every sidelined player will want to prove their manager wrong and when you've got just 15 minutes to do it you can afford to scamper around at full tilt and look a damned sight better than you would over 90 minutes. Adams is a good option. I've thought all along that both players should be utilised regularly. But let's not go over the top cos it's not justified.

Mark Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 Adams > Gradel. There lies the problem, was Adams playing in Gradel's position? It looked to me as if he was most effective through the middle. We bring Adams in as a right winger, and it's not going to happen for him. Gradels 4 assists in the previous 3 games has soon left peoples minds then, he's been creating much more than Dyer who has received little critism compared to Max despite glaring misses and final ball being just as poor lately. Wingers blow hot and cold, our fans need get used to it.
The People's Hero Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 Howard had a decent game. The problem up front is that Fryatt isn't the perfect foil for Howard. We don't play to Howard's strengths do we? We should be getting to the byline and picking him out. I'd be inclined to say that when Dickov is fit, he might be a good foil for Howard. Can't really drop Fryatt though as he's scoring all our goals. Tough one. It'll be good to have some options once DJ and Dickov are fit though.

I've always been supportive of Gradel, certainly having seen him a fair bit last year in L1 for the Cherries but yesterday I was left totally frustrated, for once he just didn't have the impact ... thus, good call to be subbed when he was ... but that's what Pearson is there for and for me the bloke got it right in the end and the three points with it! Howard, hmmm ... still a difficult one ... doesn't do it for me, but reckon Dickov could be the answer as already alluded to earlier on.

In the modern game wingers do not hit the dead ball line and get in crosses, ours are no different. Start wide, cut inside and provide a goal threat, that is the modern way! Let Fryatt lead the line, Adams and Dyer wide (but cutting inside), Gradel supporting down the middle. King and Oakley can sit in midfield and let Gilbert and Powell / Mattock get forward on the flanks. Play to our strengths, use our pace and play the ball on the ground!

Our wingers have been getting stacks of crosses in generally but whereever they put em there's no-one to direct them on goal. However, I am seriously interested in how we would do without a target man and with a natural team complimenter up front like Billy McKay. Billy's someone so versatile that he can be all sorts of things including an additional midfielder if the opposition pack midfield leaving King and Oakley too much to do. If the wingers were given more freedom and people like McKay and/or Porter were being used, I just wonder if we would get the numbers in the box we so desperately need. I don't know until I see it. But I would find out, that's for sure.

I don't know whether he is right or not but I'd put him on the bench.

Probably because he wins pretty much every header, lays the ball off to the wide men. And lets be honest probably takes the big horrible centre halfs that most clubs have in league one away from Fryatt.

We need creative players up front, and if Howard doesn't play i think we will run at teams more and will look a better balanced team for it. couldnt agree more - for me, playing Howard is the problem with this city side - lets get it on the deck, get some pace up front and play some decent football - with the big fella in the team we are encouraged too easily just to lump it up to him, and he just aint good enough anymore to play this way
Ric Flair Posted 3 November 2008 Posted 3 November 2008 The problem we have got is that both Gradel and Adams are incredibly inconsistent for us at the minute. One game they look decent and then the next they look like proper rookies. It's just a shame we can't pre-empt when they will be good and bad and change it accordingly. Gradel was poor on Saturday but by all accounts he was causing Brighton a lot of problems on Tuesday. I don't know what the answer is, right now I would give Adams another go and look for Gradel to compete with Dyer on the left where he's more comfortable cutting inside and shooting with his right foot. I'd try that tomorrow night, Dyer doesn't need to be risked in the JPT.
