maddog Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 The weak links in the team. Gradel consistently lost the ball and wasted set pieces in great positions. Howard just remains too slow and lazy. Pearson's subs today turned out to be superb, Adams and Hayles completely changed the game. As soon as Howard went off we just looked a lot brighter, more lively and faster, Howard is just a big fat drain on the team and the less he plays the better. Hayles is slow but has the effort and ability to run about the box, trick defenders and find the space, Howard just never moves. It was Hayles who made the first goal and Adams great cross the second. Hayles may not last 90 minutes but he should start the games with Fryatt, once again he transformed the game just like Barnsley away last season. Gradel was just poor, awful crosses, passes, losing the ball constantly etc. Fryatt didn't really touch the ball all game and was never in it, but came away with 2 more goals somehow. Central midfield remains an issue, with uninspirational captain Oakley and King who i rarely notice during a game, most of the forward runs are down to Dyer and Mattock on the left side. We could do with a striker and centre mid on loan, we can't really afford to wait until the window. When Dj, Clemence and Dickov are back from injury we will have a real quality squad. Or defence remains strong, well done Pearson for dropping Martin, bad luck Hendo for conceding your first goal of the season, not many would have stopped that
Mikey Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 shut up Well said. Howard won almost every ball in the air today.
Joe. Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Well I'd start with Hayles up front on Tuesday to be fair, but I wouldn't call Howard a "weak link". Adams has got to start ahead of Gradel on the right wing though for sure.

I'm glad they're in the squad, I am also glad Barry Hayles and Adams are knocking on the door. I think some of the fringe players need to be replaced to give some real competion to the first team.
Jimmy Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Well said.Howard won almost every ball in the air today. sometimes Fryatt lacks the intelligence to be a striker as he rarely reads Howard's flicks and he doesn't have the pace to make up for his lack or foresight either
Maybes Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Howard hate brigade. However I agree that Gradel should be dropped.
Nugent Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 I'd love to see a poll on who people would rather see start - Howard or Hayles.
maddog Posted 1 November 2008 Author Posted 1 November 2008 I really thought someone would agree with that. Howard winning the headers came to nothing today and rarely does. I just give up, clearly no one will agree with me and anything i say. Hayles and Adams didn't change the game no? Id rather see Hayles play 60 minutes and Howard subed on. I don't hate howard i don't boo or swear at him at the games, i just think he is a drain on the team.

RowlattsFox Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 sometimes Fryatt lacks the intelligence to be a striker as he rarely reads Howard's flicks and he doesn't have the pace to make up for his lack or foresight either But wierdly, he seemed to read hayles flick-ons a lot better. Howard to start still, Hayles to come on if things aren't working. Howard wins headers but he is easy to defend against.

The thing is, you moan when he isn't winning headers and now you are moaning that he does but it never comes to anything. The guy cant win.
lifted*fox Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Adams has got to start ahead of Gradel on the right wing though for sure. This.
Head Honcho Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 I wouldn't call them weak links but the subs certainly changed things around today and I do think Adams and Hayles will start the next match.
Fox You Forest Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 I'd love to see a poll on who people would rather see start - Howard or Hayles. Howard all day long.
Webbo Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 The next game is the JPT so the team is likely to change anyway.
Flynny Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 The thing is, you moan when he isn't winning headers and now you are moaning that he does but it never comes to anything. The guy cant win. Howard isn't actually a very good header of the ball, he's just such a lump that he can win a lot on his day and they do stuff sometimes. God this forum is boring when you've not been to a game in a while and all you can comment on is general player attributes like this.
davieG Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Gradel had two men on him evertime he had the ball with absolutely no support from anyone especially Hobbs, by the time Adams came on they'd gone to one man marking him and with Oakley providing noticeable support. I was wishing for ages for him to swap with Dyer who had the luxury of excellent support from Mattock throughout the game. Ironically after Gradel went off Dyer was over with Adams on two or three occasions in support. As for Howard and Fryatt they seem to be on entirely different wave lengths whilst one is on the M6 the other is on the M4
Brainy Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Sig The stadium actually looks half decent without the roof..

Or defence remains strong, well done Pearson for dropping Martin, bad luck Hendo for conceding your first goal of the season, not many would have stopped that Don't be so feckin stupid. Howard and Gradel had bad games. Simple as. Sometimes Fryatt has bad games. And King (so I'm told ). That's it. Tomorrow's another day. Howard's done plenty for us this season and so has Gradel including his two assists against Brighton. If you are going to ditch everyone who has a bad game you'll have no-one left before long. Hayles and Adams are no more a permanent answer than anyone else and both know all about haing bad games. Just be glad they're involved and may have justified being involved again. There are few "weak links" in our team. Just people playing out of position on occasions and a slight shortage of spare strong links.
RowlattsFox Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Gradel had the left back one-on-one plenty of times today, especially in the first half so I don't buy the "he had 2 men on him all game" argument, Adams had the same problem when he came on, difference was that he crossed early instead of running straight into the defender.
Daggers Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Gradel was shit, ran into players and failed to deliver more than one decent ball in. Howard was (again) good. Our improvement did not come from his being substituted off, it came from us adopting a 3-4-3 formation.
Koke Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Gradel couldn't beat his man. In fact, he couldn't beat their 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice LB. You gotta be incredibly shit on your day for that to happen. And his corners were woeful.
