I went last night, really enjoyed it. A bunch of funny blokes! Loved that they played Permission to land from start to finish.

 

I knew that they were going to do that because I'd already read a review of an earlier gig on the tour - if I hadn't, I think I would have exploded.  Full value delivered, well and truly.

 

I wasn't expecting a 'rock' crowd, as I know they're not taken seriously by the rock fraternity, but I was still surprised to see only about 3 blokes in the crowd with long hair and leather jackets

I heard somebody complain about how long it took to set up the drum solo bit, clearly intentional in the end  :xmaslaugh:

Aba Shanti-i... The king of both Leicester and Notting Hill carnivals playing an exclusive 7 hour set on his own sound system. 

... Sound system operator Aba Shanti – I is a yearly highlight of London’s Notting Hill Carnival, where he’s held court since the 1970s with one of the most powerful rigs around. To his many followers, Aba is a heritage selector, synonymous with his legendary dub-plate collection, running his tracks like “Jah Lord†and “Jah Lightning And Thunder†on speakers so bass-heavy they can dislodge kidney stones. Aba was also one of the first touring sounds to acknowledge diversity in his audience, and always emphasises messages of unity and integration whilst toasting on the mic.

Mungo's Hi Fi champion the evolution reggae, dub and dancehall music and are re-invigorating sound system culture. They have developed formidable live shows, collaborating with foundation legends like Ranking Joe, Sugar Minott and Sister Nancy as well as top vocalists on the scene at the moment including Charlie P, Solo Banton, Mr Williamz, YT and Scotland's own lyrical lassie Soom T.
