Webbo Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Martin 6.5 Gilbert 6.5 Hobbs 8- I thought he was immense second half. Morrison 7 Mattock 6.5 Oakley 7 Cleverley 6.5 King 7.5- Was it me or did he get forward more than normally today? Dyer 6 Fryatt 6 Howard 6 Subs: Pentney 7 Berner 6.5 Chambers 6.5
Mark Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Gilbert has lost it. Dyer has lost it completely. Fryatt has it but isn't interested now he's got his contract. And Oakley is no use in the middle, we hit a bad run of form previously till Davies took over in there. Four massive problems yet we're still not losing!
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 And Oakley is no use in the middle, we hit a bad run of form previously till Davies took over in there. That's why I'd like to see Berner in the middle and Oakley moved out to the right where it sounded like he was quite successful, jusdging by some of the ratings on here. Cleverley would be dropped which I'm not too fussed about.
Bert Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 I can't believe Howard is getting rated the same as Fryatt. although i'm not shocked tbh. Fryatt was better today. Martin 6 - Made a great save to deny Cox just before their goal. Commands well. Gilbert 6 - Dithered a bit, lost the ball in the centre of the pitch which lead to their goal, but made more defensive tackles and clearances than mistakes, maybe should've scored. Mattock 5 - Poor. Morrison 5 - What was the need for the handball in the area? Hoof. Hobbs 6 - Poor passing, but solid in defence. Oakley 6 - Shit corners yet again, but still tried to make things happen. Dyer 4 - Awful. King 6 - Gave the ball away a few times, hit the post twice, finally scored. Cleverley 5 - Was Walsall just a one off? Howard 5 - Shit, moaned about most decisions, offisde a few times, didn't win anything, gave a way stupid fouls. Fryatt 6 - Worked hard, had few chances, but still looked very dangerous, always chased any lost cause. Pentney 7 - Made 2 vital saves, catching was good as was his kicking. Berner 6 - Get him back in, whether it be at left back, or centre midfield, when he came on, he looked up for the fight. Chambers - Got 15 minutes, not really on long enough.
Salieri Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 I'm all for playing a consistent, settled team but it's got to be time to rest Dyer for a couple of games, it's not like we haven't got other options. Gilbert too it seems is sufferring from a prolonged drop in form but we're not blessed with much in the way of alternatives apart from Edworthy. It does appear Fryatt has gone off the boil too but it's hard to drop a player who has scored so many goals this season and the alternatives don't exactly hold too much appeal.

Tbh I thought Gilbert had 1 of his better games of recently.
lildave3 Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Tbh I thought Gilbert had 1 of his better games of recently. I thought Gilbert was one of our better players myself.
Thracian Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Martin 6 (One excellent save but at fault for the goal as he was metaphorically asleep. Had he been alert he could easily have dealt with the through ball that led to the goal but he assumed the defenders would beat Cox and was caught out completely) Gilbert 6.25 (One vital headed clearance when the only defender around for a cross and might have made a goal for Howard had he not miscontrolled a good ball and been given offside anyway but otherwise still below his best). Hobbs 5 (Gave the ball away so often with his clearances I lost count. The bloke is just like Kisnorbo and we can't afford it. Times he won possession, looked up and just heaved an aimless 30 yard ball to nowhere. We cannot afford to just give the ball away. H should be told in no uncertain terms to simply play simple 10 yard passes. People like king and Cleverley were left feeding off scraps. Outmanouevred for their goal and might have been caught out a second time too.). Morrison 5 (Pretty much the same as Hobbs). Mattock 6 (Might have made a goal for Andy King whose effort hit the post but was otherwise steady rather than influential). Oakley 6.75 (Up and down but did at least try to make something happen by persisting with the little one-two's that led to Kingy's equaliser and by keeping putting the ball in the box. Dead ball kicks still hit and miss but his willingness to stay involved paid off). Cleverley 6.25 (Nothing came off for him but he was another who worked really hard trying to make things happen despite being continually by-passed in midfield by out inept central defenders). King 7.75 (Once given freedom to get forward finally found the key to unlocking Swindon. Ghosted in for a good header which his a post before keeping his cool to grab another vital goal, this time an equaliser. Hit the woodwork on another occasion too and otherwise tried to play the ball around constructively despite often being short of time and space but how frustrated he must have been to see the ball being forever hoisted over his head which simply played into the hands of the taller visitors). Dyer 5.5 (Narrowed the play and never beat his full-back. Disappointing). Fryatt 5 (Hardly had a kick). Howard 6 (Not his best game but managed to make a nuisance of himself). Subs: Pentney 7.5 (Two absolutely vital saves which saved us from defeat). Berner 6 (Did okay. Got well involved and helped pose diffferent problems). Chambers 5.5 (One shot in his shortish cameo but it really is daft to have a specialist marksman like DJ out on loan when we've no genuinely effective alternative strikers).
Salieri Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Tbh I thought Gilbert had 1 of his better games of recently. He's certainly not maintained his form from early in the season though has he? I was making the point about Dyer more than anyone though, he really has gone downhill for quite a while now. Shame, because I still think he's a good player who will no doubt contribute more as the season goes on but a couple of games out wouldn't hurt him.

But i agree with that mostly.

Did you not see how many times Hobbs made surges from defence with the ball? No way is he like Kisnorbo. How you can rate Mattock as better than the 2 cb's i will not know, Mattock was poor again i thought today.

RowlattsFox Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Martin -6- Didn't too much wrong before his injury. Gilbert -6- Did some good defensive work but shocking going forward again. Morrison -5- Sloppy. Hobbs -6.5- Started very well, but gave it away a lot. Mattock -5- Poor game with occasional good bits. Cleverley -6- Probably the most comfortable on the ball, tried but not a lot came off. Oakley -5.5- Hit and miss, mainly miss. King -6.5- Quiet game rescued by the equaliser. Dyer -4- No use at home at the minute. Fryatt -5- No service really, slow to react at times. Howard -5- Today was an example of why he's easy to criticise, moaning, fouling and I'm getting fed up with him standing outside the area seemingly waiting for something to happen, you're a striker FFS get in the box. Pentney -7- MOM, kept us in it. Berner -6- Adds energy. Chambers -6- Not on long but lively.

No way is he like Kisnorbo. How you can rate Mattock as better than the 2 cb's i will not know, Mattock was poor again i thought today. He runs out with the ball, cramps the space, then lofts it instead of playing first time balls quickly to feet allowing the midfield players a little time and space. Both centre-backs should study Tunchev and see how simply but quickly he makes a pass. He hardly ever elaborates meaning the people in front of him have more space and he can provide an extra option with his own movement. Hobbs coming forward means team-mates are closed down and, if a mistake is made, the team is vulnerable to the fast counter down the centre which was plain to see on three or four occasions today.

Hobbs surging runs were fine, the problem was our midfield is too static or stupid to realise what he's doing and find some space

dandannieldanok Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Martin 6.5 (Unlucky with the goal, made a good initial save, rebound could have gone anywhere) Gilbert 4 (Dreadful imo, constantly gave away the ball and looked shaky in defence) Morrison 5 (Ok but distribution was poor and got caught out too easily for the goal) Hobbs 6 (Slightly better distribution and tried to get things moving, got caught out too easily for the goal) Mattock 3 (Absolute rubbish, dithered too often and put the defence under pressure) Cleverley 6 (Slow start but got stuck in well and tried to get the ball moving) Oakley 5.5 (Not great but reasonably solid in possession) King 6.5 (Anonymous for long periods but got on the end of three chances and put one away) Dyer 4 (Offers nothing to the team if he can't beat the full-back) Fryatt 5 (No supply, looked a bit lethargic) Howard 5 (Did better in the air than against Oldham but not his best by a long way) Pentney 8 (Two great saves on his debut) Berner 5 (Anonymous) Chambers N/A (Barely got a touch)
