Its not impossible :P

Can he head the ball to our player, can he win headers, can he time headers beautifully from crosses, can he attack the ball well with his head, can he score headers :dunno:

Errrr

NO

Which makes him a shit target man.

and you are on which planet exactly?

YES

Which makes him a good target man.

He banged goals in with his head regularly for Derby in the Championship just 2 years ago. He's still only 32 so still has a good year left in him at least.

I don't even care if he doesn't score with his head cos he's shown he can score with his feet too. He's scored good goals with his feet and had a fair few long distance screamers go just wide or be saved. I admit last season he was annoying me a bit but he has earned my respect. I will back Steve all the way, love the guy

Ollie signed him to score headers from crosses, he scored plenty of headers at Derby and Luton, infact a lot of them.

If he scores 5 headers between now and the end of the season my opinion will change.

Clearly the problem must be with our wingers who can't cross or surely Howard would have scored more than 1 header in over 1 year since he joined :dunno:

Think about all the blatant free header chances hes missed and other half chances, and others where hes been totally out of position to attack and head the ball.

Or maybe Howards past it now who fooking knows.

Id like to see him head the ball in like Elliott, Walsh, Les Ferdinand etc used to do please.

So, essentially, you're saying that, despite scoring double figures so far this season, assisting with several goals and generally causing opposition defences all sorts of problem, Howard is shit because he hasn't scored every goal with his head?

Logical thinking

To be fair to maddog, he's right to a certain extent. The lack of goals or even good goal scoring chances that Howard has had with his head is disappointing. But I blame our other players for failing to provide decent enough crosses. I don't recall, Big Steve missing many gilt edged chances with his bonnet, not this season anyway.

His aerial prowess in other areas of play though has been exceptional in the past 3-4 months.

Howard has played well this season, hes scored some goals good luck to him.

Its a combination of him playing a bit better and opposition times been a bit shitter.

Id love to see Howard score a few headers though, then id love him.

Gradel and Adams are the best crossers at the club IMO, but i just can't see Pearson throwing them straight in as he don't like changing the team.

Surely Howard, Oakley, must have discussed where Oakley would cross the ball approximately to give Howard the best chance of getting in the right position to attack the ball and score.

Don't think Howards scored a single header at the Walkers.

If Howard and Oakley haven't discussed it then they need to, if they have and Oakley just can't cross then someone else needs to learn to cross or bring Adams or Gradel especially for corners, and everything else they offer, a bit of flair.

We were saying on the way back from Hartlepool, the ball sticks to him like one of those velcro ones. Not only that but his close control with his feet is a class apart from anyone else in the team.

As for headers at goal - I think you'll find that (more often than not) he is the target at the far post with the job of sending the ball back across the box to someone else, his primary focus is not heading on goal.

So if he continues to score with his feet you'll continue to hate him? Bit picky if you ask me, goals are goals at the end of the day

Madness.

The only whipped in fast crosses have come from those 2 and they've hardly played. The best crosses of the season have come from those 2 in their limited appearences from what ive seen in HOME matches.

Either way, Dyer's and Oakley's have been totally awful recently.

12 corners in the Swindon game, only a couple of good crosses, 0 fantastic crosses and professional footballers should deliver a fantastic cross every time, they are paid enough, they have enough experience, they have enough spare time, Oakley rarely gets it past the 1st man.

Thats part of the problem with Howard not scoring headers, he can't attack the ball and gets in the wrong postion, the midfielders can't cross.

I hardly think its madness i think Adams and Gradel have the best crosses really.

You're having a pop at Howard for not scoring headers but I can't remember the last time we actually crossed the ball to his head. At the moment, our set pieces are awful and our wingers don't seem to be playing with any confidence what so ever, meaning that crosses aren't being supplied to Howard. I can't actually remember him missing too many headers.

There's a lot more to a target man than just heading.

He normally misses 1 a game from what ive seen.

If he scores 5 headers between now and end of season il be happy.

The crossers are shit, but for some reason Pearson has left Adams at Rochdale for another month, and Gradel the other decent crosser aint getting a game.

Even Porter could probably cross better than Oakley and Dyer recently.

Keith Gillespie can cross, dont know if hes joined Leeds yet, despite his age id give him a 1 year deal if he was fit enough.

As long as Gillespie got into the space to receive the ball and whip a cross in he would be alright. I wouldn't be asking him to sprint up and down the wing though, then again none of our wingers ever sprint with the ball :P

That's down to the fact that neither can cross.

I was furious that Howard didn't take the penalty with his head. I didn't celebrate when he scored.

Doesn't he know he HAS to score a header or the goal doesn't count?

Why do goals have to be scored from crosses maddog?

We need to learn how to this season and score more from set pieces and crosses as next season we wont be scoring no where near as many from open play.

What i have realised from league one, is the championship is in a completely different class, just like the Premiership is in a completely different class to the championship.

And assuming Howard is a regular in the team next season, if he only manages to score 1 header, we will be in trouble. If he cant score headers who can :dunno:

Berners more likely to score headers than Howard in set pieces IMO, id love to see him starting Saturday.

I used to think the championship was shit, how wrong i was :P

It has taken you this long to work it out.

Their is more to life than scoring headers Maddog, and atm, your very unconvincing argument about why steve howard is poor and you don't like him is failing, to me it seems like you just dont like him for the sake of it.
