bluebeau Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 It looks a virtual certainty that city will get auto promotion to The Championship, but the BIG question is, can MM hold on to Nigel Pearson? He has done such a fantastic job for city that he is bound to be well in demand by other clubs. Can't help but be concerned because it has happened so many times at city. We find ourselves a great manager & then along comes some other club & poach our guy & his staff. Hope NP sees the potential at LCFC.
GLC Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 we can hope, I don't think he will leave for anyone in the championship, only PL

If we are in the top six after twenty games we might have to look over our backs.

Que sera, sera Whatever will be, will be The future's not ours to see Que sera, sera What will be, will be Having said that I don't think he will until he's had considerable success at Championship level or above hopefully with us.
lookwhaticando Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 We just have to hope that nobody does a Blackburn and pluck a manager who only has a season or two of management under his belt at a lower league level.
Jon the Hat Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 How many managers have actually been appointed to a prem club without having: 1) got a club promoted to the Prem already. 2) been the assistant manager at the appointing club. 3) been a player / coach / legend at the appointing club or in general a world class player. Any? recently? If Milan backs him then I am sure we have nothing to worry about in the next 2 seasons.

Until then, we're probably safe.
Thracian Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 You would doubt he'll ever have a better chance o secuing a jackpot Premiership contract but it depends on whether he'd rather trust himself to build something lasting at Leicester or whether (in all likelihood) he wants to move into someone else's mess at a higher level. The money might have significant up side but the downside is that Premiership clubs don't usually want a new manager unless the old one has bodged the job. Pearson has had experience of top level administration, albeit as caretaker manager, and he might just recognise how hard is is, and how little time he'll likely be given, to reorganise and start being successful in the top flight. Okay, I know the compensation would sooth any pain should the worst happen, but Pearson might still see the prospects of building something special with his own team and backroom staff at Leicester, as being a worthwhile challenge. On balance it will perhaps depend on the jobs that become available. I hope he stays and becomes the best manager in our history. But even if the worst comes to the worst who knows what the effect will be? As a dealer I sell what I consider to be my best stock every week. There is always something to replace it with. I just hope that Mandaric has some worthwhile options in mind if we do lose the guy. The major concern to me is that virtually our entire first team has been brought here by Pearson. But then half of them are loanees anyway and very few of the others would be potential Premiership contenders, if any. So I couldn't see the playing side being terminally decimated. Besides there's little point worrying about it. Let's get promoted first and then focus on what comes next.
Jon the Hat Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 On that basis, I'd be sweating if Middlesborough sack Gareth Southgate. Until then, we're probably safe. I doubt they would go for a second inexperienced manager in a row, and in any case I think he would have to get them relegated to be sacked.
Guest Bilo Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 I doubt they would go for a second inexperienced manager in a row, and in any case I think he would have to get them relegated to be sacked. Hopefully you're right and if Boro were to be relegated, they'd probably be in a worse situation than us in terms of available funds and attendances in the Championship.

Jon the Hat Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 Ince most recently. Hence my quick edit to add the phrase "or in general a world class player"...
Hitesh Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 This question also comes with more importance if we get promoted and then how we perform next season. His reputation will grow a lot if we were to do well in the Championship and if for instance we were in the top 6 come Christmas time then his name will come up if any PL clubs want a new manager. Again though, this is all ifs and buts and the main priority at the moment is to get promoted and then worry about all of this in the summer! :-)
FilboFox Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 I'd be very surprised if he left... VERY surprised.
Chromophobia Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 considering the man's obvious apparent integrity, I'd be hugely surprised if he did 'jump ship' as it were. Also baring in mind the respect he seems to carry from his previous jobs, west brom fans in particular, I just can't see him being swayed by a bigger pay cheque just to be able manage in the premier league. We just have to see how things go in the championship though, if he has a reasonable amount to spend then there's no reason why we won't be in the play offs next season, as there's no doubt in my mind that as a manager he has at the least the ability to steer a team into them and probably beyond as well.
StanSP Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 I think he'll stay. He'll want to show previous managers i.e. Holloway and the like how to keep us up and make it in the Championship. Really hope he stays anyway!
maddog Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 Hopefully you're right and if Boro were to be relegated, they'd probably be in a worse situation than us in terms of available funds and attendances in the Championship. You get around £35m for coming bottom of the premiership plus another 8 odd million parachute payments. Despite their debt dont think they will be stuck for funds at all. Certainly have more avaliable than us.

dnewty Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 Does anyone know how long pearson's contract is ?
lookwhaticando Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 Does anyone know how long pearson's contract is ? Assumed to be three years. So he's got just over two years remaining. Possibly.
maddog Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 You do not get £35 million for finishing bottom of the Premiership. Yes you do with the new tv rights. "The financial rewards on offer to clubs competing in the Premiership are substantial. The Premiership has brokered a new TV deal worth £625m, with the club finishing bottom of the league, next season, guaranteed at least £30m." http://www.sportingo.com/football/a3604_ho...ip-big-boys-can Theres an article "Even the team finishing bottom of the table will land a £26.8m windfall - which is only marginally less than the £30.4m Chelsea received for winning last season's title." http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/news/article....mp;in_page_id=2 Heres a more official article, but that 26.8m was last season, they will get more this season. And still get £8m parachute payments on top of that http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6273617.stm And BBC Business says around £26m for the bottom club, thats JUST TV. Plus parachute payments for going down, plus money from the Premiership for competing and finishing bottom, plus other monies, i rekon £35m+ is about right So you do C-man, you do
Corky Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 Depends on what Pearson's ambitions are. He should stay here, he can build something great, but if the right job came up, maybe at a solid top-flight club or a former one, you never know.
