LOROS on the away shirt

Leicester City are today delighted to announce a partnership with LOROS that will see the charity's name carried on the club's away shirt for the 2009/10 season.

As part of the club's celebrations for their 125th anniversary, supporters were given the chance to vote for what they wanted to see on the front of the home shirt.

A huge majority of fans chose to keep the shirt blank - but there was also a large following who wished to see the club tie in with a charity.

And after listening to those supporters, chairman Milan Mandaric announced that he would be handing the away shirt sponsorship to a regional charity.

Over 50 organisations submitted applications, and after initially whittling it down to a short-list of four the club can now confirm that LOROS will be displayed on the front of the club's away shirt next season.

Lee Hoos, LCFC Chief Executive, said: "It has been an extremely difficult selection process as you can imagine because there are so many worthwhile causes in the region.

"From the original list of over 50, we whittled it down to four charities. They then each presented to a panel, which included a representative from the fans' consultative committee.

"We were very impressed with all of the charities that came in to present to us, but in the end we decided that LOROS would benefit the most from an association with the football club.

"We are very pleased to have chosen such worthwhile cause and I am sure that the fans will be happy with our choice.

"But while LOROS will be featured on the shirt it isn't the end of the road for the other charities as far as the work we do in the community in concerned.

"This is a very exciting time for this football club and we are very thankful to our supporters for coming up with the idea in the first place."

Simon Proffitt, LOROS Chief Executive, added: "Everyone connected with LOROS will be delighted to be the chosen charity partner for Leicester City in their 125th Anniversary year.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for us to work with the club in order to raise awareness of the hospice care services LOROS provides and also help us raise the £4million which the provision of these services costs each year. The partnership will extend throughout the season when LOROS hopes to have completed the funding of its £2million building extension. We will also commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the opening of the hospice.

"Being selected is a fitting tribute to the charity and recognises the valuable work of LOROS and our generous supporters across Leicestershire and Rutland.

"I would like to wish the Foxes every success in this season's promotion bid. We hope fans will be wearing the new away strip to Championship games next season!"

City plan to unveil the new away kit in the late spring.

About LOROS

LOROS (the Leicestershire and Rutland Organisation for the Relief of Suffering) is a local charity providing care and support within Leicestershire and Rutland.

LOROS charges no fees for its services, which are available to all local people regardless of their race or creed. The Charity relies upon the generosity and support of individual people, organisations and groups as well as Trusts and the business community of Leicestershire and Rutland in order to continue to fund the service.

The Leicestershire and Rutland Hospice is a specialist centre providing skilled nursing and medical care, supported by physiotherapists, occupational therapists and social workers, in an environment that recognises the particular needs of patients and their families. It provides expertise in controlling pain and other distressing symptoms as well as offering emotional, spiritual and social care, which allows patients to live as normal a life as possible. Working with the whole family enables both the patient and the family to cope with the changing situation so that they are able to make best use of the limited time together available to them. LOROS treats patients from the age of eighteen years and upwards.

What kind of treatment is available at the Hospice?

The hospice has 31 in-patient beds. These are arranged in bays together with a number of separate single rooms. The ward bays provide single sex accommodation.

Patients are admitted for:

- Symptom Control

- Pain Relief

- Assessment

- Terminal Care

- Respite Care

- Treatments can also be given on a day-case basis

Big thumbs up!!!

We all know the club has a habit of making a hash of things ("foxes forever" anyone), but they have listened to the fans on this one. To have a plain home shirt and a charity away shirt is win win as far as I'm concerned.

Well done everyone!!

I'm confused by this, although it's a really good idea LOROS, as Leicestershire @ Rutland charity seems a strange choice to put on an away shirt.

I would have thought the purpose of doing this would be to raise it's nationwide profile and to raise funds, I can't see how this works for LOROS :dunno:

Just to say I fully support LOROS and have no axe to grind with any particular charity.

Anyway the club and more so LOROS must think it's a good idea so I'll bow to their knowledge and congratulations to LOROS.

Good stuff.

Was always going to either be LOROS or Rainbows tbh.

Yeah i thought that.

So does half of profit on an away shirt go to Loros?

Or are they just on their so that there repuation increases? and Leicester sell more away shirts because of the charity name and the club gets bigger profits?

Interesting question, following on from my previous post unless they get a contribution themselves the benefit seems to be all for LCFC.

I think if someone's buying the shirt they are entitled to know if and how much it is.

The benefit LOROS gets is free "advertising". They will get a lot of publicity by being our sponsor, more so than a paying sponsor as the story will no doubt be picked up by the national media.

A raised awareness of what they do and who there are is a massive thing for them. The club shouldn't have to give them a cut of the money for it to be of benefit to them. Getting their logo and the story out there could be worth more than a cut of the shirt money, with extra public donations etc that will undoubtedly come from it.

I understand that but they are a local charity I can't see that being on the away shirt raises the awareness where it needs to be raised.

But hey I don't want to sour this by turning into some nit picking debate so I'm going to bow out.

Exactly, most shirt sponsors pay to get their name on the shirt, LOROS are getting the exposure free and this should help them raise awareness of their charity and raise more money, the club don't giv commercial sponsors a rake off on shirt profits and they won't give a chartity one either.

I know what you mean, but fans will still wear the away shirts for home games. You have photos on the website, tv coverage mercury pics etc etc.

I guess  Anyway it's still a magnificent idea.

I'm sure they'll be plenty of auctions, raffles etc going on.

My mother died while being cared for at the LOROS Hospice two years ago, and they did so much to make a horrible time for all us bearable. It would be impossible to find a better group of people that the staff and volunteers there, so anything that helps them can only be a good thing.

Brilliant! Best news in ages. I've had 2 family members and a family friend pass away there and they are so thoughtful and excellent at what they do.

My family does a lot of charity work for them and I will be buying a shirt too!

Good work City

Great decision that can't have been easy to make given the number of applicants.

It'll be nice to see a local charity get some much-needed and much-deserved exposure.

I think that in an era when the best players are reportidly going to earn £200k per week a gesture like this is very good.

However the best part of this gesture to me, is that the club which I have perceved in recent years to caring less and less about their local loyal following (i.e ST Holders) have given something to the local community which we are all apart of. This means alot to the fans as we can all see, as many of our families will have had something to do with LOROS over the years.

Fantastic LCFC! For the first time in a long time the people running the club have made a decision which is pure class :appl:

where were LOROS (the Leicestershire and Rutland Organisation for the Relief of Suffering) last season, cause i certainly could have benefited from there assistance in those final games .... :)

but seriously, i hope this works for the charity as much as possible, just can't see LCFC getting anything right nowadays....

and, looking at the second logo - i'd be interested to see what a burgundy and gold city away kit would look like
