Thracian Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 For all its irritations, the Barbars honey beer together with its wonderful selection of real ales and supporting ciders puts the Swan and Rushes in a league of its own for me. It's a spit and sawdust set-up with pub games, music nights, a bit of food and as much atmosphere as you're likely to get these days. I also like a Ruddles or a pint of Old Speckled Hen with the staff at my lads diner out in the county.

The Victoria Jubilee is the nearest pub to where I live, but it's gone downhill in the past 10 years. The pubs I drink in the most often are the Barristers, the Regent Club and the Criterion.

James. Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 The closest pub to me is The Blind Beggar where Ronnie Kray shot someone ages ago but I don't really go there so I would have to say Indo, just a bit further up Whitechapel Road.

Yea it can be somewhat expensive, but the atmosphere is pretty decent, and the themed nights they have can be quite good sometimes... I love it sat out in the garden in the Summer, unfortunately the food has gone down hill a lot and I prefer to go to the Kaffir (which do an excellent carvery).
Guest Bilo Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 The Swan and Rushes and the Polar Bear can both be counted as my local. Which one I prefer is dependent upon my bank balance. Although given a choice, it's all about the Swan for me.
