My Dad lives round the corner from The Trees and one night when I was visiting him my girlfriend and I went there for a quick beer. It was like being transported back to the 80's. Mullets and string vests were like a dress code. As was being fat. We stayed for a beer, absorbed as many dodgy glances as possible and then escaped, relieved.

LeeCovFox Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 The Dove is the localist pub to me that I go in, used to go in The Full Moon and Daniel Lambert a few years ago but not been in Full Moon since its changed name and Daniel Lambert has been knocked down. I have wonderful memories of that place. My dad would take me there every Sunday whilst mum cooked the roast dinner. When I came of age myself the Danny had seen much better days, so my local became Lesters. The day the Danny dies was for me the opening day of Euro '96. I was only 12 but my dad took me down with a mate of his who had his own son with him. Upon entering we were confronted with a sign stating that anybody heard swearing would be thrown out. It was a council estate pub for working class people for crying out loud. The place never recovered. Maybe this isn't unusual anymore. I used to go to our local Welfare club regular. It was just like Phoenix Nights. They had the exact same organ sound from the theme tune. Every Thursday the organ guy was there makin it sound like Potters place. We all loved it for different reasons, me for the comedy, the old folks for the 50/50 dancin to the organ tunes. That place was all about community but now it gone. It's a wounder. Local pubs bang the shit out of these ones that all look the same, but there's no way back for em. It's just memories now. Good memories

As mentioned previously the pubs are in constant limbo. Shame as with the right crowd in, a night in the local can be as good as any. Working Class Pubs for Working Class People on Working Class Estates!!
