Matt Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor have been dropped for Scotland's World Cup qualifier on Wednesday night following a breach of discipline, the Scottish Football Association have confirmed. It is understood the Rangers duo were involved in a drinking session at Scotland's Loch Lomond base after they returned from Saturday's 3-0 defeat by Holland in Amsterdam. An SFA spokesman told PA Sport: "We can confirm that there has been a breach of team discipline. This has been dealt with within the squad." The spokesman added: "The focus is victory on Wednesday evening and we will be going all out for three points." It is alleged that Ferguson, 31 and McGregor, 27, carried on drinking in front of guests at the Cameron House Hotel hours after their team-mates had drifted off to their rooms, much to George Burley's anger. Ferguson failed to appear at Tuesday's press conference at Dumbarton as Burley hinted at "big decisions" to be made with regards team selection. The incident throws into disarray Burley's plans for the crunch game for the Scots who need all three points if they are to have a chance of qualifying for South Africa through the play-offs as a second-placed country. "There's a lot of big decisions to be made," Burley said. "I will speak to my staff but it's one where I need to back my own judgment. "I won't worry about other factors, simply what I feel will be the best team to win." Copyright © 2009 The Press Association. All rights reserved. Who they think they are England in disguise?!
Ultra Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 At least Rangers didn't have to worry about them being injured in midweek..
Hitesh Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Serves them right to be honest - childish if you ask me!
Father Ted Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Who they think they are England in disguise?! Who cares??
Stevosevic Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Good decision, so stupid of both them. Ferguson is the captain for godsake, lead by example, and McGregor has just been given his chance over Gordon, stupid bloke. Shows how much playing for their country means to them.
J.Lisemore Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Im glad they have been banned. I hate to say it but they really need to grow up.
Tevez Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Embarrasing, especially for both. Ferguson captaining his club and country and McGregor setting to keep Gordon out for the Number One Jersey. Wankers.
Hullfox Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 At least Rangers didn't have to worry about them being injured in midweek.. Especially as they've been suspended for two weeks by them.
maddog Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 This has got out of hand. 2 blokes get pissed once, its what most people do every week, and they are banned from playing for their country What a fooking farcical society we live in. I bet the Sfa board enjoy a wine or 10 once in a while.
Bryn Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 It's not the drinking, it's the spectacularly immature gestures that have got them into trouble.
Guest Gist Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Serves them right! such childish behaviour, maybe a little harsh, but still good to see some strict action taken for once, maybe others will think twice about acting like it.
Head Honcho Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Well after going to watch Scotland in Amsterdam last weekend it's nice to see we now have the strength in depth to challenge the rest of europe. Childish-very Worthy a life ban-Don't be ridiculous Do they care-Do they fvck Good luck to the pair of them. Burley is a very lucky man he will take Scotland to 2nd place imo because Iceland and Norway are not the teams they used to be-any other manager putting teams out like he has would have been sacked months ago. I doubt any of the players respect him as a man or a coach the sooner we're rid of him the better.
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 i bet that if Scotland qualify these two will have there bans lifted and back playing for their country in a year. Burley obviously has no respect in the dressing room, first Boyd, then these two.Thats three quality players the Scots have lost.

I don't understand though, if you offered me the chance to play for city and england but I'd have to not touch a drink or have a fag until I retired, I could do it SO easily, none of these players have any passion or respect, putting the v's up to the manager is just fooking stupid.
Alexikokopops Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 Banned for drinking??ahaha This has got out of hand.2 blokes get pissed once, its what most people do every week, and they are banned from playing for their country What a fooking farcical society we live in. I bet the Sfa board enjoy a wine or 10 once in a while. They weren't banned for drinking

Hasn't it been obvious for a while through that in a money orientated football world playing for your country just doesn't have the same appeal as it did say 20 years ago. Take Lampard time and time again he comes out with all this rubbish about how important it is to play for England yet has failed to turn up for the best part of 4years on the pitch, you can only imagine his appearance fees for Chelsea are more important than giving his all for England, besides Rooney the other night it was almost impossible to imagine that any of the other players got out of first gear. no matter what rubbish players come out with these days International football is not a priority anymore and for some seems more like a chore that gets in the way of advertising clothing of sports drinks
Tevez Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 Apperently both will be sold to different clubs at the end of the season. Ferguson off to Zenit.
Uncle Albert Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 They are both to good for Scottish Football anyways.
purpleronnie Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 Are you kidding it was so obvious. They we're always going to be found out. Just another example of childish, brain dead spoilt footballers.
