Cropwellfox Posted 26 April 2009 Posted 26 April 2009 Seeing Zola and Clarke rewarded with new contracts at the Hammers makes me wonder whether Milan should look to do similar with the coaching team here in advance of the summer's transfer business? I think they all came in on three year deals, so two years left at present. Looks like Boro are heading for the Championship and if Steve Gibson decides to get rid of Southgate I'd guess Pearson would be pretty near the top of their list as a replacement? Nigel seems like a guy with integrity and I doubt very much whether he would walk at the first opportunity, but regardless of that, the players here look well coached, fitness levels have been very good and the scouting system has delivered consistently well this year - do they deserve a new deal as a reward for the last 12 months?

Yes, totally, but not just yet. I think Mandaric will want to see how they fare in the Championship. If we are around mid-table in Oct/November, then he will begin to consider it - that's if no-one has poached them by then!
Bryn Posted 26 April 2009 Posted 26 April 2009 Don't think a relegated Boro is much more attractive, to be honest. They're more likely to do a Charlton than a Birmingham IMO, gonna lose a lot of personnel, can't even fill their ground in the Prem. I don't think Pearson would walk out that easily.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 26 April 2009 Posted 26 April 2009 If they get poached when we are really on the up I will actually cry.
RizLCFC Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 If they get poached when we are really on the up I will actually cry. We'll cry together because that would be a heartbreaker, to be honest Nigel am sure will know that he will be linked with several posts over the summer but this is a first full season for him to manage in the Championship and he knows there is stability at Leicester City now so I don't think he will want to mess that up.

I think what is really important is that he was employed just after being given the push by Southampton so coupled with his personality I would imagine that he would have some loyalty towards the club. He has also moulded the team so I would imagine that he would find it hard to walk away without being able to see how far he can take them. He is obviously close to Hoos and him and Mandaric looked like lovers on Friday so I would think he will be here for a while yet. I also heard that Boro were in about 60m in Debt so even with Steve Gibson I can not imagine he would have too much to spend up there. He will probably have a bigger budget here than there and to be honest are they any bigger than us? I don't think so. I bet if we are up near the front next year our average attendance will be bigger than theirs.
Jon the Hat Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 Give them rolling contracts How long do they last?
BoneDog Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 I think they certainly deserve new contracts. They've done a magnificent job. I think they are all very happy here so can't see em going anywhere in the next few years anyway unless pushed
Matt Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 I said this a few weeks ago, but again don't get too carried away, Pearson and staff have done a great job and worthy of their praise, but similar to Mandaric comparing Pearson to Harry Redknapp, or Sir Alex Ferguson, and the fans saying he is "the New MON" - Which obviously I hope he is, I am giving him praise and I do love him but cast your minds back and remember back to when we got promoted from the Championship with Micky Adams - Everyone want him to sign a new contract when we had got promoted, everyone was dubbing him "the new MON", that soon changed when we were in a relegation battle in the Premiership - Something that was to be expected, Early into the next season many wanted him sacked - He left. As I said Pearson deserves his praise, Everyone loves him, He's done a great job, but let's not get too excited and while i'm not slagging him off and hate to put a dampener on thing's lets remember his real test and challenge is next season.
Joe. Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 Don't think we should get ahead of ourselves here. They've just got us promoted out of League One and done a very good job, but let's see how we go when we're in the Championship next season. I have no doubts Pearson is the right man to turn us into a good side, but let's see him achieve something here first.
Edmund Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 Im sure there would have been bonuses for the management team if promotion was achieved this year and the players.

MarkDeVries Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 knowing milan that will warrant a sacking Crazy Serbians! what can you do eh?
maddog Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 No i'm sure they have decent deals already. No point offering them double wages+ on big deals and then sacking them all if we are bottom of the championship after 20 games next season. Pearson has done a fantastic job, BUT i think a lot of managers could have done what he's done this season, with our players/squad/money/training facilities/fans etc.
