RowlattsFox Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Young midfielder pair Andy King and Joe Allen are set to win their first Wales calls for the international friendly with Estonia in Llanelli on 29 May.King, 20, has starred in Leicester's impressive League One title-winning campaign and his performances have attracted Premier League attention. Allen, 19, made an impact for Swansea when he was given his chance. If the duo impress against Estonia they may win a call for the World Cup qualifier in Azerbaijan on 6 June. Wales boss John Toshack names his squad to face Estonia at Parc y Scarlets on 22 May, with the fixture scheduled as a warm-up game for the encounter against Azerbaijan in Baku. Toshack already expects to be without experienced Premier League duo Craig Bellamy and Simon Davies. Captain and Manchester City striker Bellamy is set to miss the rest of the season because of a knee injury. And Toshack was dealt a further blow when Fulham midfielder Davies was ruled out for the rest of the season after having surgery on a foot problem. So Allen, King and Reading striker Simon Church, who scored four goals on loan at Leyton Orient this season, are set to be handed their international chance. They hope to follow Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey and West Ham's Jack Collison on to the biggest stage. Collison is on the road to full recovery after suffering a knee injury in a 1-0 win at Wigan Athletic in March and Toshack hopes he will be available for Wales' summer fixtures. So Allen and King are set to make the step up from the Wales Under-21 team and win their first full Wales cap against Estonia. Should they perform they could book a seat on the plane to Azerbaijan. King, who has scored once in six Wales Under-21 appearances, has been one of the stand-out performers for Leicester as they won promotion back into the Championship and he won the club's young player of the season award. The 11-goal midfielder - who has attracted attention from Premier League sides Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and new boys Wolverhampton Wanderers - was also nominated for the players' player of the season and player of the season awards. Allen spent part of the season on loan at non-league Wrexham but after Ferrie Bodde's season was curtailed prematurely because of a knee injury in November, Allen was given his chance by Swans boss Roberto Martinez. The performances of Allen - who has scored once in 11 Wales Under-21 caps - have been hailed by manager and team-mates and now his international dreams are set to be realised.
billyfox1 Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Fully deserved. Had a very inconsistent start to life in the first team but has done very well and matured a lot as a player over the course of the season
Leicesterboi Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Very well done Kingy! Fully deserved. Not to keen on all this Premier League interest though!!
Sparky Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Wales vs Estonia in Llanelli Pinical of any footballers career
Bilo Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Well done Kingy, thoroughly deserved after the efforts put in this season. Considering his age, the lad has a big future at a higher level. Let's just hope it's with us.
Hitesh Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Good good, well deserved too! Been consistent all season at hope he does well, but not too well as I don't want any Premier league clubs pinching him just yet!
StanSP Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Thoroughly deserved. Played consistently well this season and virtually every game too. Not bad for a guy of his age. Well done Kingy
General Smuts Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Always nice to see. Chris Powell now to be named in the next England squad ...
lou Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Well done indeed. Delighted to see this. Dont think we'll hang onto him for too much longer but if we can get another season or 2 I'll be happy! Chrisy Powell will be playing in the Masters soon!
filbertway Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Played King. Whether he'll actually get a game is a different matter... But it's always nice to see our players get international recognition
Flynny Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Nicely done Kingy. Is this the first time Premier League interest has been mentioned regarding King or am I just not paying attention?
Collier Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Is this the first time Premier League interest has been mentioned regarding King or am I just not paying attention? I haven't heard of any before, either. TC
Darkzzz_ Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 I haven't heard of any before, either.TC I haven't either but I heard you are crap on ice.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 I haven't either but I heard you are crap on ice.
Finnegan Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Be hugely surprised if he starts unless Toshack is putting out pretty much an entire U21 side and surely he won't actually get anywhere near the pitch against Azerbaijan. I really do hope for the best for him and for Wales but he's clearly a long way behind the likes of David Edwards and certainly Ramsey. Would imagine this is a product of Collison's injury (which looked utterly horrible on the telly.)
flanimal Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 How Welsh is Andy King? He doesn't sound it, and Maidenhead is where he was born. Plus, I have never seen him eating a leak once...
Fox You Forest Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 How Welsh is Andy King? He doesn't sound it, and Maidenhead is where he was born. Plus, I have never seen him eating a leak once... Wouldn't you drink from a leak?
flanimal Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Wouldn't you drink from a leak? I've watched Andy King take a leak, but not eat one.
