Years of building up to a handful of meaningful games per season it must have been like watching the grass grow. Why would any Englishman want to manage in Scotland other than for the money, the scenery and the golf courses? Football wise, bossing Celtic must be about as challenging as running a stableyard of thoroughreds and training them to win two-horse races once a month. As for the European football side, it's a given. If Celtic or Rangers failed to reach Europe with all their advantages it would be like Manchester United losing to Macclesfield. At least Strachan won't complain that he needs a break. He had one. For years. I hope he's not gone soft. Because he'll be back in the real world if he goes to Sunderland. Cold, windy, forlorn-looking place. And little hope of winning anything but survival for another year. Good luck to the bloke.

Ok, he won 3 league titles in the SPL, but how hard is that in the SPL? The only teams that challenge Celtic are Rangers and perhaps Hearts/Aberdeen. He has signed some good players, yes, like McDonald and Brown but it is not good enough. Perhaps now he has gone, they might loose interest in Simon Cox! Dont Celtic want Tony Mowbray?

Strachan might not be God but he's an alright manager and he's worth a job in the Premiership. I don't think Celtic is the hardest job in the world but he had some massive shoes to fill given how much O'Neill is revered up there and I think he did pretty well.

How much further can he take them? He took them further in the Champions League than MON did, and won more consecutive titles than MON did. Don't know for sure but probably spent less money too.

It's amazing that it's been 6 years since Ajax won the last domestic title. Im confident they will this year. At least the dutch league has become a little more open in recent years. Not winning the title with Ajax is comparable to Real madrid in Spain. Absolute huge fanbase and 9 out of 10 dutch supporters support them. Good luck Jol

How can you say u want to manage at the highest level, get your team promoted to the highest level and then fook off to celtic. God i really liked this bloke aswell, top manager but if he goes to celtic he needs his head sorting.

Probably why he's cashed in and took a big job now where afterwards he'll probably end up at a decent Championship side.

Infact is he loves Celtic and wants to go there one day now maybe the best time to do it, leaving Burnley behind in the Premier League is much better than leaving them in the Championship. He can leave Burnley on a high high note an go Celtic, nothing wrong with that. Leaving Burnley mid-way through the Premier League season with them bottom of the league would be twattish, but leaving now before the Premier League season has even begun with Burnley having plenty of time to get a new manager in, and there will be lots of good managers who will want to manage in the Premier League, is fine by me. He's done a fantastic job good luck if he goes.

Maybe because he's a huge celtic fan, maybe because burnley will be in the championship next season, maybe because celtic are one of the biggest clubs in the world, maybe because they are in the champions league (q) every season. You can't just assume he'll get offered the job again. Burnley could quite easily "do a Derby" by failing miserably in the premier league then struggle back in the championship. Clubs aren't lining up to take a punt on Paul Jewell now are they? Burnley fans should simply be grateful they've got up. I think that's happened Well we were established in the Premiership at the time then he left, only for his sucessor undo all the good work in 1 season, spending £25 million in 1 year, resulting in relegation, causing administration, and I honestly believe without that cunt we wouldn't have been through so much shit in the last 5 years, we may have still be relegated to the Championship but I don't think it would have been quite as shit as we've had it over the previous 5 years.

I have no axe to grind for the old firm, but Rangers and Celtic get massive home gates, if you ever tried to get a flight from Northern Ireland or London on a Friday to Glasgow, you'll see that their fanbase extends a little bit beyond twenty miles outside their city. They play in the Champions League every year. In the last 5 years, they've both been to major European finals and done OK in the Champions League. OK, they don't have the same money as Man U, Liverpool or Chelsea, but they are big clubs. Bigger than Burnley and bigger (I regret to say it) than City. That's why O'Neill's decision to leave us for Celtic was sort of understood and McGhee's decision to leave us for "bigger club" Wolves was derided. Coyle leaving Burnley for Celtic, though unfortunate for a club he has done well with, would be understandable.
