Former England Under-21 goalkeeper Stuart Taylor has become the second player this summer to leave Aston Villa for the City of Manchester Stadium - after a glowing testimonial from Villa No.1 Brad Friedel.

Friedel played under Blues boss Mark Hughes at Blackburn for three years, and Taylor revealed: "I talked to Brad for some advice and he couldn't speak highly enough of the manager and his goalkeeping coach Kevin Hitchcock.

"He has a high regard for Kevin as a person as well as a coach and I can't wait to start. This is a fantastic club to be joining, a club that is going places with a great new owner and a manager I have a lot of respect for."

Goalkeeper Taylor signs on for City

Taylor, now 28, spent eight years with Arsenal and picked up a Premier League winner's medal with the Gunners in 2001-02 when he was sent on late in the final match by Arsene Wenger to qualify with ten appearances.

The signing of the Romford-born player, who earned three caps for England Under-21s, will provide competition as well as experienced cover for Republic of Ireland goalkeeper and No.1 choice Shay Given.

Stuart made 30 senior appearances for Arsenal and spent loan spells at Bristol Rovers, Crystal Palace, Peterborough and Leicester before a £1million move to Villa in 2005. He had a spell on loan at Cardiff last season.

He follows in the footsteps of Villa skipper and England midfielder Gareth Barry in joining City, and manager Mark Hughes said: "We are delighted to be able to add a goalkeeper of Stuart's undoubted calibre to the squad.

"Stuart is still a fairly young goalkeeper at 28 but he provides a wealth of experience and reliability."

Taylor's arrival on a one-year contract will allow Hughes to arrange a loan deal for current England Under-21 goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Hart seals Birmingham loan move

Birmingham City have signed Manchester City's England Under-21 keeper Joe Hart on a season-long loan deal.

Hart, 22, lost his place at Eastlands following the arrival of Shay Given from Newcastle United last season.

And Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has agreed to let Hart move to Birmingham after signing Aston Villa keeper Stuart Taylor as cover.

Hart is currently with the England Under-21 squad in Sweden for the European Championship.

He signed a five-year contract with City in October 2008 and was described by Hughes at the time as "one of the most promising keepers in the country".

And Hughes admitted earlier this month that Hart could go out on loan in search of regular first-team football rather than sit on Manchester City's substitutes' bench.

Hughes believes Hart will return to Eastlands an improved keeper, telling City's official website: "I have always said that Joe is a really good young keeper, and his talent was obvious to our goalkeeping coach Kevin Hitchcock and I from the outset.

"His contribution to the team prior to Shay Given's arrival was fantastic, but by loaning him to Birmingham, he will add invaluable experience to that already gained here at City.

"I know he will relish the prospect of regular Premier League action, which is vital at this stage in his career."

Hart, who won one full England cap against Trinidad and Tobago 12 months ago, began last season as Manchester City's first-choice keeper but moved down the order following Given's arrival for an undisclosed fee on 1 February.

McLeish is ready to install Hart as his first-choice keeper ahead of Maik Taylor as the newly promoted Blues attempt to consolidate their position as a Premier League club.

Former Shrewsbury keeper Hart has previously had loan spells with Blackpool and Tranmere since joining City in May 2006. He has started 50 Premier League games for City.

Hope he gets games there, looks a promising player.

He wanted 60,000 a week at City which is stupid. Yeh, I hope he gets games there, but if they sign Tevez as well, surely Drogba's gone?

Would be a cracking signing if true!

Still waiting for a work permit. He hasnt played enough games for Serbia to get one but we will appeal. The only thing that could stop the appeal being successful is the fact that he is currently serving a 1 year prison sentance suspended for 3 years.

Vieira to Birmingham?

Wouldn't mind seeing him there actually, it'd be interesting to see how he'd get on in a "lesser" Premiership side. But £90k wages? I've not seen him play recently to know whether he still warrants that kind of salary.

Man CIty make a official 25m bid for Samuel Eto'o.

Heard a Barca chap on the radio saying the offer would make him the highest paid player in world football. :o Surely there are better forwards about to spend that kind of cash on.
