teblin Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Young Manchester United star Tom Cleverley would be welcomed back with open arms by Leicester City.City chief scout Steve Walsh has admitted that Cleverley "may well get some more time" at the Walkers Stadium, but United will dictate the future of the 21-year-old midfielder. Cleverley had a successful loan period at City last season and Walsh told the Mercury: "It all depends on United, because he remains a big part of their plans. "Tom's a smashing lad and a good team player with great energy levels who brought something else to the table. "He brought us athleticism that we sometimes needed in games and he scored a couple of goals." Cleverley made 10 starts for City and scored twice before his season came to a premature end when he dislocated a shoulder in a 1-1 draw with Colchester at the Walkers Stadium on March 21. After successful surgery, he stayed in touch with City and was a guest at the final home game of the season against S****horpe, when the League One trophy was presented. It was Cleverley's second return after being given a "proper farewell" before the Leeds game on Easter Monday. "Everyone made me feel very welcome at Leicester and I enjoyed my time there," said Cleverley at the time. "It was just a shame it had to come to an end with the injury," A source close to Manchester United said that, for all his promise, Cleverley had been unable to make his big breakthrough at Old Trafford. The nearest he has come to the first team was an appearance in the "shadow squad" for the Carling Cup tie at QPR last November – but he did not get on to the field. "Tom won't want to be treading water in the reserves and going out on loan is a good option for him," said the source. Walsh said David Beckham had been in a similar situation early in his career. He said: "Beckham went on loan to Preston ( in 1995) and it can help youngsters in their growth and development as men." Other Manchester United youngsters have benefited from loan spells away from Old Trafford. Of the current first-team squad, Ben Foster, Jonny Evans, Darron Gibson and Lee Martin have had spells at Watford, Sunderland, Wolves and Nottingham Forest respectively. Former United loan players who have moved on to other clubs include Chris Eagles, who helped Burnley win promotion to the Premier League, Danny Higginbotham, who helped keep Stoke in the top flight, and Gerard Pique, who lifted the Champions League trophy for Barcelona after their 2-0 victory over United in Rome last month. City have added another pre-season friendly to their programme with a City X1 playing Hinckley United at the Greene King Stadium on Wednesday, July 15 (7.30). City midfielder Andy King is expected to be on the bench as Wales face Azerbaijan in a World Cup qualifier in Baku today Mercury
StanSP Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Cool. Basically a repeat of what was said at the end of the season and when he got injured. If he does come back I hope it is permanently. He's a good team player and has that kind of creative quality that we sometimes lack.
Head Honcho Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Mercury "It all depends on United, because he remains a big part of their plans. I'm not too sure about this comment!
foxoffderby Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 great news rate the boy. Better off here than utd reserves. Adds a little...I dont no what to the team.
Webbo Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 "It all depends on United, because he remains a big part of their plans.I'm not too sure about this comment! Me neither. The comparison with David Beckham seems a little far fetched too. Walsh said David Beckham had been in a similar situation early in his career. He said: "Beckham went on loan to Preston ( in 1995) and it can help youngsters in their growth and development as men."
StanSP Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 What's wrong with that similarity/comparison to Beckham?
haraven Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 I rate him highly, he is more than welcome! The scouting departments of the big fat clubs know how to find talents, and look at the loan deal with Hobbs landing him permanently. I would think NP will continue to try to loan talented players we can sign if the motherclub don't have them in their future plans.
Fox You Forest Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Me neither. The comparison with David Beckham seems a little far fetched too. They're comparing situations rather than the players. I'd welcome him back good little player.
Salieri Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Great young prospect with a smashing attitude. Would love to have him back next season.
Head Honcho Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 What's wrong with that similarity/comparison to Beckham? There are some similarities but let's not forget that Beckham was thought good enough to play Champions League football even before he went out on loan to Preston. I'm not knocking the guy I just doubt he'll have a long future at United. All the better for us hopefully.
Lovejoy Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Good, good. Like the player, seemed to really enjoy himself here too.
Finnegan Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 They're hardly going to come out and go "yeah he'll never be good enough for us, he reminds us of Josh Low really" are they? Just talking the boy up for his confidence and for the sakes of sparking public interest.

The 21-year-old impressed on loan at the Walkers Stadium last term and reports suggest the Foxes are hoping to tie up a similar deal for the midfielder this summer. The final decision on his future rests with United but they are believed to be keen to send Cleverley out on loan again and will give Leicester first refusal. Cleverley's time with Nigel Pearson's side was cut short by injury last season but he should be fully fit come August so a deal seems on the cards. source:clubcall.com

Just talking the boy up for his confidence and for the sakes of sparking public interest. they probably don't even know who josh low is (fortunately neither do I. I'm fairly good at erasing terrible things from my memory.)
lcfc89 Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 heard cleverly deal could be a perm rather than a loan, from good source
MarkDeVries Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 heard cleverly deal could be a perm rather than a loan, from good source So....
lcfc89 Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 i know one of the city players agents through my uncle who is a big solicitor, i've said things before on here but u just get shot down. only other thing i know was that 2 deals were to go through before one of the loan keepers came back on perm , 1 being weale 2 nguessen, so iguess could be soon..
Bert Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 IF Cleverley comes here it'll be on a season long loan. Why? Ferguson rates the lad, and wants him to have a solid season playing competitive football, to see whether he can handle it, and be nurtured properly, to try and make the step up for United. He won't be in the United team for a good couple of years if so, but the only way he's going to do so, is playing competitive games. It's good for both clubs that he's on a season loan, if Ferguson doesn't want him, we'll be favourites to sign a good player, and if he does, there's the possibility of us getting Clev the season after too.
C-man Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 At the moment Cleverley could be in line for a start on the right of Manchester United's midfield.
lcfc89 Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 i'd agree with u just what i heard he sounded pretty concrete 9/10 stuff he said been right in past, suppose gotta watch this space . one other thing he said was that mm hadnt given pearson any money either this was two weeks ago.
Bert Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 How another players agent would know that remains to be seen though.
