StanSP Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Raul ALbiol should fill that defensive gap.Sergio Ramos is the only good'un in that defence at present. MDV, what about 'should'??
MarkDeVries Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Fine. But if Valencia crumble I win because I said that they will. Agreed. & should is just not good enough. Will
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 They still need to get a decent defence going.
Ashley Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 It looks like i'll have to get a new Real Madrid shirt with David Villa on the back now instead of the Valencia one Edit: Real Madrid are in administration arent they? If so why are they allowed to spend silly amounts of money on players?
AjcW Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 As Barcelona are my second team... All I can say is I am sitting back and laughing. I think the strength and versatility of Barcelona was proved in the champions league final, were Carlos Puyol, playing out of position at roaming right back, put in one of the best performances I have seen in a European game, and outshone any performance of our main right back Daniel Alves. That paired with the strength and youth of Pique at the back, the talents of Iniesta, Xavi and Toure in midfield and the class of Messi, Henry and Etoo upfront show why Barcelona will not need to be as stupid as Real Madrid this summer. Just imagine how long it is going to take Real to gel all these players together, in my opinion Real wont win la liga this year, wont win the champions league this year and will ultimately dissapoint, Sure in two or three years they may be the best in the world but the instant success everyone is expecting simply wont happen. I expect Barca to sign one or two for cover in defence and one new striker if etoo leaves. Nothing spectacular, just two or three signings to add to a super strong team. Guardiola will get it right in my opinion and deliver another la liga next season.
The Reverend Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Defence anyone?Real are absolutely atrocious at the back. They had the seventh worst defensive record in La Liga last season. That's what cost them the title, that's what was responsible for the 6-2 defeat to Barca and the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool. It's all very well going for the 'Hollywood' signings that will sell thousands of shirts around the world, but ultimately Real are a football club as well as a business entity and the success of the club on the pitch is inextricably linked to the club's success off it. While they were in Manchester, they should have made an offer for Vidic or Ferdinand but they chose not to because neither will sell anything like the number of shirts and merchandise that Villa, Kaka or Ronaldo will. They will finish second to Barca again, make no mistake about it. As much as it pains me to say it, you're pretty much spot on. Madrid have no defence - Cannavaro is off to Juve. Barca dont have any genuinely world class centre halves Puyol aside, but at least they have one. The hype is going to hit Real for sure - they wont deliver unless they buy a world class centre half and full backs. Ashley Cole would be on my list if I was Pellegrini.
leicesterseddon Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Well this is just getting stupid now. The thing is Real Madrid is a very strange club, not conventional at all. For instance, their debt is essentially underwritten by the Spanish Government. Their President has contacts in the Government and all the major banks, hence why they can raise the money for these ridiculous transfer fees. And (along with Barcelona) they own their own TV rights, allowing them to sell them independently of other la liga clubs - I've even heard this allows them to raise 3 to 4 times more in TV revenue than event the biggest English clubs... Personally I hope all of these clubs go bust. It's no more than they deserve.
Lovejoy Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Well if nothing else, it gives me something to talk about.
weluv Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 can see Real winning everything next year, tbh with thr squad they've got it would be an achievement not to.

They have an awful defence and even if they do get that sorted with a left back and a decent pair of CB's still cant see them winning anything apart from possibly the Copa Del Raye (if thats how it's spelt)

Exactly, its a joke system over there, Real Madrid is a spanish institution, paid for by the government and by the royal family.....i just feel sorry for the people of Spain, the amount of tax they will be paying to pay for all this might have gone up significantly!!
The Reverend Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 Ashley would be a good buy for them, but if Real deprived us of Cheryl there would definitely be tears before bedtime. I cant even and dont want to even think about that happening.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 I wouldn't be suprised if Ronaldo will get a strop on quite quickly at this rate as he won't have all of the attention. I can imagine this is why Wenger didn't take on the job as rummoured, as who would seriously want to manage all of those ego's? Is Raul still playing? You have to fit him in the side somewhere too! And Madrid's defence isn't that bad is it - they have Raul Bravo?

Edmund Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 Ibrahimovic next? 80million is a stumbling block though. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle6493561.ece Also this is interesting : He also plans to raise funds via player sales and is willing to offload Real’s entire Dutch contingent, which has put Premier League clubs on alert. Tottenham are interested in striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, available for £15m, while Arjen Robben has been offered to Liverpool with Gabriel Heinze as makeweights in any deal for Alonso.

Fustrating that everyone raves about him (media wise). I wouldn't pay more than 15m for him. Robben as makeweight Very suprising.
StanSP Posted 15 June 2009 Posted 15 June 2009 Barca want Villa That would be soo good! Might trigger the exit of Eto'o. I don't know if he has signed a new contract there or not.
Libertine Posted 15 June 2009 Author Posted 15 June 2009 Can we change the thread title to 'The David Villa Saga'?
Finnegan Posted 15 June 2009 Posted 15 June 2009 I'm confused. I was told in the pub on Saturday that he'd actually gone to Real?
