Milky Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 Arise Sir Paul Collingwood. 254 balls. 5 1/2 hours at the crease. Hopefully we've learnt some lessons from that. Let the oppo get you out, don't give it to them. All in the mind as they say.

Milky Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 Yes, KP take note. The guy's a genius, but his need to showboat at times doesn't do himself, nor his team, any favours. KP is the least of our worries. He's the only genuine world class bat we've got. Hopefully he'll learn from it and move up to the next level. After 53 tests, Ponting had an average of 40, KP 50 and with more runs scored and more centuries. Ponting will go down as one of the all time greats with over 11,000 test runs, and now fourth behind Lara, Sachin and Border. It's up to KP now to learn and do his talent real justice.

Bert Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 How gutted would you be if you're an Aussie? Massive psychological advantage to England.
Fosse Boy Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 Haven't seen the highlights yet because I was playing today, sounds like an awesome finale though. Are we drawing the batting order out of a hat for Lord's then?
Daggers Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 How gutted would you be if you're an Aussie?Massive psychological advantage to England. Very, if you're Ricky Ponting. Him sitting there in his schoolboy's cap, with his big pouty face. Funny. His miserable whinging did have a point though - I'd rather have achieved the draw through fair play rather than gamesmanship. The interuptions were ridiculous.

True, but I'm pretty sure the Aussies would have done the same.
C-man Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 I agree Hilfenhaus (he reminds me of someone and I can't put my finger on who) apart they didn't look all that special, Hauritz won't get the same assistance from the Lords pitch and Johnson was all over the shop, plus you'd like to think some of our batsmen won't give there wickets away so easily this time round. Yeah we were the worst team easily and it was undeserved but I'm not sure why anyone wanting England to win would be bothered about that. Appearance-wise he looks like Graham Onions!
Brainy Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 Monty the worst fielder in test cricket? Would make you think we haven't played the Windies for years.
Ultra Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 True, but I'm pretty sure the Aussies would have done the same. Ponting deserves no sympathy. His Ronaldo-style whinges to the umpires in the final session weren't exactly sporting either.
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 Well played Colly, Monty, Anderson and Swann. However, unfortunately, we are probably going to play Monty in the next test when really Harmison or Rashid should be given ago.In terms of bowling Monty didnt bring what we needed him to bring. In fact despite the tails performance with the bat they didnt really bring anything in terms of bowling and thats worrying.

I'm not sure where you're getting that from, Monty won't play at Lords and he will not be replaced by another spinner aka Rashid. It'll be Monty out for Harmison or Onions. Although he did bowl fractionally better than Swann, still pretty guff though.
BoneDog Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 What I want to know is this (cos I don't know all the rules and stuff) : If Australia hadn't of declared at 645 the other day and had batted on and scored 2 or 3 hundred more (and England got what they got today), would the Aussies have won the 1st test?

James. Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 Seeing the Aussies crying over a bit of gamesmanship just makes the draw even sweeter. Carry on Ponting.
markbsac Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 Seeing the Aussies crying over a bit of gamesmanship just makes the draw even sweeter. Carry on Ponting. ponting was gutted....what a mardy ar se he is...great to see the aussies crying...what a sweet moment ! come on england
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 Let's just get the wickets and win the test so we can go to bed Yes i did nod off to sleep after the Collingwood wicket.....thinking we had an 80% chance of winning <_< Was expecting a little more abuse actually
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 In relation to the Gamesmanship Ponting would of done the exact same thing............it's not against the rules and it's for the umpires and match refree to police it.....well played England i say.

Agreed, he's obviously just said it while still rightly frsutrated. You could see from the celebrations that once Collingwood went, they thought it was over. Didn't McGrath and co do a similar thing in a previous ashes by calling on the water boy?
