purpleronnie Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 What a strange time to announce you're retiring.
Fox You Forest Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 Monty has 8 5wi in 38 Test Matches, I hardly think you can say he has only played well once. He also has more 5wi in first class cricket than Swann despite having played 80 less matches. Not that I think Monty should play, he is badly out of form. Swann has played 5 test matches against the West Indies and has done well, but lets not pretend he is a great bowler. He is fairly innacurate, does not spin it much and doesn't have a ball that goes the other way. There is a reason he has a run of the mill record in first class cricket. I'd let it go mate, some people just won't have it.
Corky Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 Sad to see Freddie leave Test cricket, but understandable and hopefully his career will last longer because of this decision.
martyn Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 I cannot believe people are calling for Harmison. It's almost like people are transifxed by what they hear about "pace" and "hostility". The fact remains that despite a purple patch in 2004, Harmison has been consistently average or poor. Taking a few wickets for Durham doesn't suddenly render him suitable for an England recall. If a change is to be made, Grahan Onions deserves his chance. He's a wicket to wicket bowler at a decent pace who should thus find the Lords slope to his liking. Broad should not be disposed of yet...he's learning his craft and does not deserve to be jettisoned so soon. I think Ultra said somewhere on the last page about him being a bit ineffective in the West Indies but failed to consider that the tests were generally played on strips of concrete which offered nothing to the seamers. We have to accept that our bowling options are pretty thin right now and we have very few bowlers in county cricket able to step up. As such, the talent which we do have needs to be nurtured and allowed to develop. It would also help should venues not prepare 5 day batting paradises to ensure revenue maximisation to the detriment of the spectacle, and to bowlers.
Ultra Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 So when Broad fails to take wickets, it's the fault of the pitches, yet when Harmison has a bad day, it's because he's poor? Broad was fast-tracked into the Test side before he was really ready for it. We've seen the results of that in recent series, not just the last Test. But whatever side the selectors pick, the poor weather forecast for the weekend should allow England to escape with another draw.
Fox You Forest Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 I was just reading about that, thought it was only Friday to worry about rain.
martyn Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 Harmison has proved time and time again that he is not up to the task, save for a sensational series in 2004. His test bowling average since 2005 is 36.88 over 30 matches. He's had enough chances over numerous series and has continually flattered to decieve, i guess he just has more "bad days" than most. The constant clamour for his reintroduction is completely baffling. Broad has played 18 test matches, his bowling average has got better year upon year and he obviously is able to contrbute with the bat. 1 poor perfomance against the Aussies does not justify calls for his removal. With the paucity of our bowling resources, young players like Broad are precisely the type we should be looking to develop rather than slavering for the inclusion of experienced players who have failed to deliver despite numerous chances.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 Flintoff not up to it mentality against the might of the Aussies
Edmund Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 Flintoff not up to it mentality against the might of the Aussies I was listening to talk sport earlier and they came up with an interesting point about Flintsones retirement and the timing of his decision. They were saying people who knew him said that he had been planning on retiring from International cricket 6 months ago but they reckon announcing it now will have a positive effect and lift spirits in the team and supporters. Also his knee is knackered and he plays through pain in each match.
martyn Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 Anyone point me in the driection of a decent stream, cricshow doesnt appear to have it
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 Johnson and the house already bowled a peach or two each.....wickets soon hopefully
marko Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 Johnson and the house already bowled a peach or two each.....wickets soon hopefully He's bowled some buffet balls as well.
Fox You Forest Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 Whoever suggested Ian Thorpe, yes! spitting image minus beard. Although I'm not sure that's who I was thinking of, I was thinking actor.
Craig Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 Johnson and the house already bowled a peach or two each.....wickets soon hopefully I hope you're not planning your night on wickets again
marko Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 Johnson is having a 'mare, for an international and the 3rd best ranked bowler his line, length and seam position are dreadful...please keep him on Ricky
Tilley Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 & now Hauritz has dislocated his finger by the looks of things.
Benji Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 The tip of his middle finger is now bending the wrong way
marko Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 Hauritz off, Johnson will have to bowl more. Great. I'd fancy my chances of getting a century against this guy, i'm sure this performance is worse than Harmmison's at Brisbanein 2007 and that was bad!!!
