Bellend Sebastian Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 If they're so desperate to have music during games they might as well just stick a CD on at the beginning of each half. For the next home game, it will be 'Trout Mask Replica' by Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band for the first half. In the second they will play Lou Reed's 'Berlin' in its entirety. No sound allowed of any sort at half time, including talking
leftsideoverhere Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 I really don't understand what all the fuss is about. I may be a product of the generation of football fans who have been watching since the 'Premiership era', and so have grown up with commercialisation in football but I really don't see the problem with having goal music. I wasn't there on Saturday but by all accounts it sounded bloody weird when we scored. It's not that people don't know how to celebrate anymore (away matches anyone?) but having things like goal music at the game increases the all-round appeal of the game to allcomers. Who cares if we listen to 15 seconds of goal music which at least 75% of the crowd seem to get into if it means that we continue to be part of the advertisement of football as a family activity. Sure, it's a bit silly, but it is all part of the family atmosphere that has been built up at football over the last 15-20 years. If we want to continue to get kids through the door, we need to make the game a more attractive prospect to kids with notoriously short attention spans and their parents with increasingly less disposable cash. I'm not saying that we need this goal music to survive, but its presence makes the whole day more enjoyable for people who may not post on here. Kids, mums, dads - those who can't or won't go to every game. Do we want them to come to the Walkers or not? Whenever Chelsea Dagger came on I'd avoid dancing like a moron because I'm a grown man, but I'd always see parents and their kids dancing away, and they seemed to be having a great time. You may say that music shouldn't be necessary to get the atmosphere going, but it involves a lot of the people who don't want to join in with things like the singing during the game, and makes more people feel like they are part of the atmosphere. In a way it is sad that this is what football has come to. Yet at the same time, I feel like a lot of people on here are more than happy to slag the club off for doing little more than trying to make the game a more enjoyable experience for all involved. I appreciate why people don't like it, but I feel that there has been a total overreaction from many people on here. Times have changed. *awaits barrage* If you're seriously saying that the goal music is essential to attracting young fans, why do the top clubs have no problem attracting and keeping young fans, given that goal music is not heard at Old Trafford, The Emirates and so on? It simply isn't true that "this is what football has come to". It is what football has come to at certain clubs where the recent past has, through a combination of pricing strategy and poor on-field performances, resulted in a lack of atmosphere which clubs have chosen to paper over instead of repair. The new 'parent and child' season ticket is a small step by City back in the right direction. But there's so much to put right it is possible that it's a losing battle now. Maybe printing the words to 'WYS' in the programme would help. But the most significant thing the club can do to attract fans, young and old, is play attractive football. There's a clue in the way it is described as 'attractive'. Either the product (the football) is something the kids want or it isn't. If it isn't, then goal music, even if you're right, is UHT cream on a turd, isn't it?
leftsideoverhere Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 The woman at the end annoyed me. "My kids looked at me and wondered what was going on". That's the main issue - are they wanting us to score in the last minute to win 1-0, or are they wanting us to score in the last minute to do a dance and wave their arms? The problem here isn't the kids - I'm fine with them looking up to their mum, who's taken them to the game, for guidance as to how to behave in response to goals and so on. If what they see is adults sitting quietly waiting to be entertained, booing and moaning when things go wrong, and then doing a stupid dance when we score, then that's what they'll learn. But their mum should be able to remember what to do to celebrate a goal without the silly music. Perhaps for her, football is just an entertainment. If it is, and that's what she teaches her kids, then they might as well watch it on the TV.
leftsideoverhere Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 I'm waiting for the day that they start playing goal music at matches for opponents' goals. It could happen - it may even be a case of clubs getting together and deciding which goal music to play and sending a memo to all the other clubs to get the CD ready. Now that would be a complete disaster, but you can never say never. You are describing 20/20 cricket you know?
C-man Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 Whilst I think that would be perfect, I have a horrible suspicion that most people would be in favour of it. At least we'd then know that the club had given it some thought. Not knowing how to celebrate a goal is beyond a joke. These sheep that can't take the initiative and do something from the heart shouldn't be at a football game.
Webbo Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 I don't see what the fuss is all about,.. Tbh I think that about a lot of subjects on here.
davieG Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 Apply for this role and you can manipulate the thoughts of the fans at source. Daggers Posted 7 January 2010 Posted 7 January 2010 Oh God the topic's back. You're gonna need a bigger thread
Dan Posted 7 January 2010 Posted 7 January 2010 I agree. However, I would totally scrap all goal music.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 7 January 2010 Posted 7 January 2010 People moan that they dont like Chelsea Dagger and we get a better song which is unique to us (as far as i know) and we moan even more! I'd rather not have goal music but I really like Fire as a song and that Chelsea Dagger gets on my nerves after a while. Plus its good that we use a Leicester band too.

Fire is better and the lesser of 2 evils, and i'm a huge fan of Kasabian, however goal music is just embarrassing, I can't celebrate to goal music - Which is one factor that away games are better. It's even more embarrassing watching people to do a dance to Fire, "The arms" - Its not like Fire is new, yet people still try and work "the arms" dance into Fire.
lcfc_jme Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 Fuck goal music and the sanitisation of the game.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 I don't really like goal music but my dislike doesn't control my life.
BoneDog Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 We shouldn't have goal music cos it's for girls. Celebrating a goal is all about the long roar and the power surge down the terrace. If we are gonna have goal music we should have the chorus of this. Something we could make a chant out of 'we're......gonna.....piss on you, piss on you'
