lou Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8153251.stm Interesting one........ overkill or necessity to protect our children? My husband used to run a couple of Tae Kwon Do clubs and had to have checks done to work with kids so I dont really see what their big problem is? Didnt think it was a new thing either? All of these Authors must be loaded, so to go on like this over £64 seems a bit much? I do think its the kids they are depriving by these actions at the end of the day which seems a bit harsh. Surely if they want kids to buy their books this isnt going to help their sales either!?
Bryn Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 Child protection laws are fucking ludicrous these days in general. My friend is set to study Primary Education at Uni next year and whilst doing work experience he was disciplined for almost ruffling a kids hair. It's just pathetic, these kids are going to grow up thinking that the entire world is out to get them.

I dont think checking the police records of people who are going to work with kids is too bad though.

These guys are not running a club or teaching a class - they are at no time in charge of the kids - merely coming in to talk to them. It should be up to the school to ensure that no one apart from CRB checked staff are ever left alone with children - not to ensure they never come into contact with anyone not checked.

Fair comment yeah... theyre not likely to be left alone with the kids. Even so I think its a bit harsh they are punishing the kids by stopping their visits.
Zingari Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 i wouldn't like the author of this book in school without a crb check
Webbo Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 I've mentioned this before but I've had to have a CRB check because I do some decorating at a school. The thing is though that I'm never there during term time so there are never any kids about.
Dr The Singh Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 i wouldn't like the author of this book in school without a crb check That's a very good book!!!
Zingari Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 That's a very good book!!! only cos you were sitting on his knee while he was reading it to you
Dr The Singh Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 only cos you were sitting on his knee while he was reading it to you Unfortunately i'm not his type, i've got too much facial hair!!!
Bellend Sebastian Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 The main flaw with CRB checks is that they only pick up on things that people have done already. I'd fly through a CRB check, but what's to stop me then being invited into a school and then bumming all the children senseless? If you have committed any sexual crimes you're still a potential sex criminal. There's nothing for it. All adults must cut off all contact with children immediately and forever (or until they're 18 - better make it 21 to be on the safe side). It's the only way for them to be truly safe. Having said that, I've just realised that children could potentially grow up to be paedophiles, so perhaps they should all be killed, just to be certain. Discuss

Discuss i think my doctor thinks i'm a paedophile he gave me some medicine the other day , and on the bottle it read ; "KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN "
James. Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 Genetically, paedopiles have more genes in common with crabs than they do with you and me. Now that is scientific fact. There's no real evidence for it, but it's scientific fact. I think we should probably kill all crabs too.

As a school governor, I checked the position with the council today. Many governors think they'll need a CRB check in order to visit their schools. They won't - it'll only apply for those left in charge of children.

I'm sure these children will be supervised at all times whilst the authors are with the kids so there shouldn't be a problem really.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 I don't think you would fly through that CRB check now It's OK, Jonathan King is doing the checks

Phube Posted 17 July 2009 Posted 17 July 2009 Wait a minute what puts authors into a different 'trust' bracket to teachers, doctors, nurses, nuclear medicine technologists!!! I have been CRB'd 3 times in total, with every job move (some even just a promotion in the same Trust!). I'm thinking half these objectors are either paedo's or have something to hide!
Bellend Sebastian Posted 17 July 2009 Posted 17 July 2009 Girth. Yeah, some of those kids are f**king fat alright. Oh, I see

Authoring is an impoverished profession, after all.
