Jimothy Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 Sorry if this has all ready been posted, I'm not about much on here anymore but this is well worth a listen. Robbie Savage taking apart a BBC Radio Derby journalist. He starts off by raising a very good point but then goes over it so many times it's embarrasing. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...nty/8453058.stm Click play half way down the page Yeah that was embarrassing. Fair enough he made his point, and he was right, but then just kept going over again. I think he was trying to worm out of answering the question as to why Derby were so bad at the weekend.
Super_horns Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 Man has passion and balls to confront the presenter over such allegations but ofcourse always going to defend the men that make him captain.
lavrentis Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...nty/8453055.stm Good listen, not really a fan of him but fair play.
StanSP Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 Found it quite funny. Interviewer stayed relatively calm, probably cos he knew he was being fucked over . I love when Savage goes 'next question'...interviewer asks his question. And then Savage just goes 'oh you know the answers...you heard the rumours'
Edmund Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 Haha that's quality. The guy wasn't expecting that at all. He was speechless. Fairplay Robbie for standing up for the team and the staff. Shouldn't let it get to him though. I love it how he brings out all the stats.
Finnegan Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 I've always liked Robbie Savage's off-field self. He's always been quite honest about what he makes himself out to be on the pitch, he confesses he loves being the villain. But what a majority of people don't realise is that Robbie Savage is a pretty articulate, pretty intelligent man.
Matt Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 Jesus, How embarrassed must that presenter be? To have been owned by Robbie Savage...The person who thinks Blackburn is closer to Wales than Birmingham. He'll never live it down bless him.

I don't know the quote in question but given Savage is a Wrexham lad then I would have thought Blackburn would certainly be closer to "home", as the crow flies and in terms of journey time on the motorway.

I think at the time it revealed in the press that Birmingham was actually closer, both in terms of distance and travel time.

I forget the quote myself now, but I know for a fact it was quite a commical and contradictory one when he was moving from Birmingham to Blackburn.

Well it depends if they're measuring to the border or to Wrexham. Go consult your sat nav or a route planner, Blackburn to Wrexham is most definitely closer. But obviously I've no idea what Savage said or where his family live, might all be in Cardiff for all I know which might have been daft.

It may have been they were measuring it from his house at the time, which I'm guessing was probably somewhere in the Cheshire Footballer Belt. I think Birmingham came marginally closer than Blackburn anywho. Can't be arsed to find any corroborating evidence.

He may well be but he does sound like a 10yr old arguing in the playground in that interview. Neither covered themselves in glory but that reporter, by the end had Lilly saying the team's not good enough and the manager can't buy anyone. I'll wager he hadn't planned on saying that at the start.

But Savage did corner Colin at one point where he made the point about beating teams lower in the division i.e just because Scunny were lower, they should have beaten them. To which Savage's reply was to do with Burnley beating Man Utd and Chelsea should therefore beat everyone. Colin didn't have much to say to that.

To which Savage's reply was to do with Burnley beating Man Utd and Chelsea should therefore beat everyone.Colin didn't have much to say to that. Maybe because it was totally irrelevant. Savage did well at the beginning and I enjoyed that but I must admit the above you mentioned was embarrassing as all he was doing was dodging the bullet as to why they were so abysmal at home against Scunthorpe. But like I said in my earlier post, fairplay to Savage for standing up for the team.

Ford Super Sunday Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 Savage= legend That **** of a reporter trying to deflect the blame 'why don't we talk about your failings' And as I listen he's starting to lose his rag (reporter) love it!
RedHux Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 I liked (when trying to say the back room staff all have experience of top level football): Lilly: "...and who did Metgod play for?" Bloke:"er.....Forest." Lilly" real maaaadrid..(virtually crying). Crosby, who did he play for?" Bloke: "er....Forest" It all seems like the final desperate thrashing and wailing of a dying football team.
Uncle Monty Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...nty/8453055.stm My Favourite bit is where he says, maybe we aren't good enough.

Guest Bilo Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 In all fairness, I think Savage has a point here. Our moan ins are bad enough so I can well imagine them on Radio Derby, it can't help the players and scurrilous rumours must irritate the players and coaching staff. I do think Derby are absolutely fucked but it sounds as though their local media doesn't help them.
ramboacdc Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 i now officially hate robbie savage and cant wait to watch him fall into league one!
foxoffderby Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 TBF you can understand both sides of the argument. Colin Gibson is actully quite a respected journo in Derby and we all know about outspoken Robbie. Both parties are annoyed at the performances on the pitch at the moment. Its just frustration on both sides spilling over. I've listened to Radio Derby on a number of occasions and over a number of years, going back the early 90's and I've found there journos to be very passonaite, informed and intelligent. Put it this way if was listening to Derby V Leicester on the radio I would listen to Radio Derby. Derby are struggling big time at the moment a bit like the season we went down to div1 everyone is frustrated and its showing...
Ultra Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 Savage's playing career is nearing its end. He'll be a full-time media pundit this time next season.
