Zingari Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 i'm not milking the hamster! I've never heard it called that before
C-man Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 The speed limit is too slow and too simple. I'd say you weren't allowed to overtake in the middle lane unless you were doing or intending on doing 80 and the same goes for the outside lane at 90. As for lorries they can use the hard shoulder.
Guest Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Too many cars, and too many shit drivers. Driving is seen as a right, not a necessity these days. Middle lane hoggers should have their licences taken off of them. I heard one woman saying that she hogged the middle lane because she didn't like the idea of being boxed into the inside lane, and didn't like pulling out and overtaking. IF YOU'RE TOO fooking SCARED TO OVERTAKE, YOU SHOULDN'T BE ON THE fooking ROAD, YOU TWAT!!! And what's with these people who never leave the middle lane? I flick the indicator to overtake, and will they move out into the outside lane? No, no they frigging well will not. No matter what the speed of the middle lane is, there they are. On some journeys, I can overtake, and be overtaken by these tossers 20/30 times. Twats. I bet they just spend their whole lives driving the motorway network because they don't know how to get off the frigging things.
Webbo Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 I've got a job in Solihull coming up. 3 weeks back and forth on the M6. Not looking forward to it at all.
Daggers Posted 8 August 2009 Author Posted 8 August 2009 I assume your statement was ironic - seeing as how you come from Brum? I do not come from Brum.
Bryn Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Me? I'd ban caravans, cars under 2 litres and anyone who's not driven 50,000 miles. Wankers. I've done about 6k in a Fiesta and I can tell you it's certainly not me that's causing the issues, it's the old cunts who have been twatting around on motorways for decades and see no reason to change their infuriating habits that cause the problems.

Completely agree.

I made a similar point to this a few months ago in a similar discussion, prepare to be ridiculed. I agree with you though obviously.

Matt Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Agreed they are bollocks, Clarkson said something on Top Gear the other week about if you have a crap car you can't care about driving and if you don't care about driving....why drive and ruin it for the rest of us? Them compared it to cooking, nobody forces you to cook just like drive. The amount of times I go out in the early hours to escape these everyday morons is ridiculous. It's a lovely drive in the mornings at 5/5.30ish on the way to work with the roads fairly empty...Fast forward 12 hours coming home and it's a different story.
Alexikokopops Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 All you need is a bit of tolerance, or even better stick to public transport. If everyone who moaned about the state of the roads went on public transport then there would be far less trouble. Hmmm... take the train, spend £9.10 a day and take 1h45m to get to work OR car pool with my two housemates, spend about £2.10 a day and take 30-40 minutes to get to work. As appealing as it is to pay £150 extra a month to spend two extra hours a day commuting I think I'm going to give it a miss. Too many cars, and too many shit drivers. It's incredible the amount of idiots there are out there.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 I was on the M1 and M25 yesterday, and apart from the usual middle lane hoggers (of which there were loads, unsurprisingly) the only really twatty thing I saw was someone joining the motorway from the services who didn't seem to grasp the concept of accelerating along the feeder lane before joining the traffic. Instead, he stopped and sat there with his indicators on, waiting to pull out, which made him very popular with everyone behind him. Naturally, once he'd joined the motorway he sailed past me at about 110 a few moments later. As I was merrily cruising along, I actually thought how great the motorway network is. It's just a shame that there are too many cars (and twats) for it to work probably a lot of the time
Lamby Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 And of course there are the people who indicate and cant decide whether to go into your lane or not. Had one last sat who went into the slow lane, went back into the middle then went and sat in both the slow and middle lanes, then moved into the slow lane again and indicated whilst he was in the slow lane to tell that he was going into the slow lane, even though he was already there

It's frustrating that everyone moans about it when in reality the alternative is far worse, there are morons all over the place you just have to put up with it.

breadandcheese Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 There is very little choice but to undertake on the motorways today. It may make you a tw*t but there is little option with the awful drivers who choose a lane and just sit. Take the new four lane stretch on the M1 just after Luton. Brilliant road, except for the drivers. Frequently, the outer two lanes will be chocka block, and the inner two lanes pretty empty. I'll usually end up driving in those two lanes to overtake. Yes, I am breaking the law, but my argument is that I'm actually doing under 70 but still overtaking the muppets who sit in the middle lane causing the outer lane to be so heavily congested. They need more patrol cars to pull over awful drivers who sit. My other gripe is those drivers who pull out into your lane of the motorway as soon as they stick their indicator on. Do they not realise you're supposed to get up to the appropriate speed of the lane next to you before pulling out? An indicator does not give carte blanche to just change lane, regardless of surrounding traffic.

stez Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 when i'm following a middle lane hogger, i make a point of leaving the slow lane (keep to the left and you'll always be right) going behind them, then into the fast lane, over take then go all the way back to the slow lane. i have no doubt, they haven't got a clue what i've just done, or why, but it makes me feel all righteous. it's also easier to do this on the m69 which is almost always empty.

Do you sometimes get a bit too close to them when carrying out this manoeuvre? I do, and sometimes they even notice. It's massively irresponsible, I know

Not strictly true. My other gripe is those drivers who pull out into your lane of the motorway as soon as they stick their indicator on. Do they not realise you're supposed to get up to the appropriate speed of the lane next to you before pulling out? Otherwise I just pass them on the inside.

Sometimes on my weekly sunday night m25 stretch I do this but go one further - if the roads are pretty clear just ease off a little when your on the inside lane and let them overtake you again, then repeat. See how many circles you can do before they realise it is possible to pull over. It helps if you stare blankly at them each time you draw level. I think a misconception is the idea of 'fast' lanes. As far as I am aware there is an inside lane and overtaking lanes, if you're not overtaking you should be on the inside? As for pulling out I was told you should only really pull out if you can do so without making another vehicle adjust its speed
breadandcheese Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Not strictly true. Good to know. Thanks for that.
Zingari Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Good to know. Thanks for that. it's not quite so simple though , you can still be prosecuted ; Highway Code rule 268 advises against undertaking: "Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake."[2] On other roads you can "only overtake on the left if the vehicle in front is signalling to turn right" (rule 163). On all roads, undertaking is permitted if the vehicles in the lane to the right are queueing and slow moving.[3] Undertaking in an aggressive or reckless manner could be considered Careless Driving or more seriously Dangerous Driving, both of which are legally enforceable offences. I'd read this as , overtaking on the inside lane of a vehicle that was moving at a reasonable speed would be punishable , so do it only if the vehicle is going at little more than walking speed . i certainly wouldn't risk undertaking on a motorway other than at hold ups
