dandannieldanok Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Brilliant second half, the three subs were the stand-out players and outshone any other player in blue. Waghorn applied pressure on their defence, N'Guessan kept firing balls in the box and Nicky Adams was a great outlet (plus his squaring up to their players twice ).
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 ...but unfortunately they're all now telling RL that he's the next Rooney and we should sign him. After 45 minutes. flanimal's posts pretty much represent the views of 99% of correspondence to the Mercury and RL. Fickle.
Granno Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 When you can play very average-ly in the first half, miss a penalty and still win 2-1 against a decent team, I'd call that a cracking result. Waghorn looked lovely, if he can keep that up then we have a real diamond in the lad. Bring on the next 3 away's.
Matt Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Fairly impressed, I was quite happy with the first half tbh, It wasn't fantastic but I didn't think it was terrible, 2nd half we played them off the park, When it got to the 50/60th minute I was getting abit pissed off any annoyed I must say and when Howard missed the penalty I had that horrible feeling it wasn't going to be our day, but carried on pushing and reaped our rewards. I'm happy, I'm very excited and looking forward to what is ahead but trying to keep myself grounded and not get too carried away, but i'm going to enjoy it tonight.
Bugg Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 I found that Jordi Lopez after Wayne Brown's tackle hilarious. he rolled over about 5 times. who is he trying to impress. Nonetheless, i found leicester's second half performance outstanding and we could have scored 4-5 goals in that half. Waghorn, N'guessan and Adams looked impressive today.
Granno Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Steve's off the mark for assists already btw I dunno why, but when he missed the penalty I had an image of you crying your eyes out. Weird.
Braunyfox Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Delighted with the new boys, each and every one...but Wellens was a class apart from any other 21 people on the pitch at any given time. His vision, his awareness, his tackling and distribution was top drawer. Have to agree the above 100% . Top marks to NP, he knew where the problem was at Half time and dealt with it.
Daggers Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 I found that Jordi Lopez after Wayne Brown's tackle hilarious. he rolled over about 5 times. who is he trying to impress. An utter cunt.
lildave3 Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 I dunno why, but when he missed the penalty I had an image of you crying your eyes out.Weird. I was a little worried at that point. Although I knew it was going to the keepers left at that height, I swear all his pens go there
Budweiser Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Waghorn was absolute class. Dany was quality. Great subs by Pearson. Pefect start to the Championship campaign. Sign him up Nige! I was impressed with Brown as well, solid game. Not the best passer of the ball but defensively, fantastic. Well worth the win and could have won 4-1 easily. Oh and Howard was good, even though he missed the penalty. Good atmosphere in K... Moving on, got told by a mate that the Swansea fans ran out and 'attacked' the city fans at the end of the game. Not to sure he said attacked, something along the lines of anyway..
maddog Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 I know it's only 1 game but this is the first time since the 02/03 season we have EVER been in a top six place in this division. In 04/05, 05/06, 06/07, 07/08 seasons in the Championship we NEVER made the top six not even for 1 game in the entire season as we always started awfully (Losing to Blackpool, Luton, Sheff Utd) and never caught up with the playoffs after the 1st game. Playoff place finally, hopefully another curse broken and we can stay there all season now
Daggers Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Moving on, got told by a mate that the Swansea fans ran out and 'attacked' the city fans at the end of the game. Not to sure he said attacked, something along the lines of anyway.. Would be amazed that they managed to get through the police cordon.
maddog Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Who set up Waghorn's goal? Dyer or Berner, someone from the left i think.
C-man Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Since we've been at the Walkers, we've won 3 games on the opening day. The others? Watford.... promotion MK Dons.... promotion

Trumpet Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Well, what can I say? Really, reall pleased first of all. There's no doubt that the better team won it on the day, and it would have been a bit of a travesty had we not at least got a point out of that. Swansea did nothing throughout the game except put the ball in the net once.Anyway, onto us. As you can imagine the first half wasn't the greatest, but we didn't play that badly either. I didn't manage to see their goal as I hadn't finished working at that moment, but it was from a set-piece, and that looked about the only way Swansea were going to score. We were knocking it around fairly well without creating anything particularly of note, and thus we went down a goal at the break. Fryatt clearly wasn't ready for it, which was disapointing. It was also clear that Oakley wasn't working as a right-sided player. What wasn't disappointing were the couple of aces Pearson had up his sleeve. Could you ask anymore of two half-time substitutes? They were hugely impressive, both of them. The second half was excellent in all departments. Right from the off we stated our intentions, and you could sense a goal coming at some point. I said that if we scored we could quite easily go onto win it, and that's exactly what we did. Waghorn looked sharp, and N'Guessan was getting dangerous crosses in that were finding a Leicester shirt. So it wasn't really a surprise to see us with a real chance of getting back into the game with the penalty. I said that Howard would miss. The penalty was pretty woeful to be fair, but it didn't put us off. We continued to press and got the rewards when Waghorn equalised. A handy (and very big) deflection got us back into the game, and we didn't look back. The second goal went in, and all was well. We could have got a third had it not been for the crossbar too, very unfortunate for N'Guessan this time. Overall, a brilliant start with a performance to match it. In 07/08 we would have just rolled over and died, but not this time. Pearson should take great pride from his double subsitution at half-time which totally changed the game. Fryatt's position in the team is in major doubt if Waghorn can continue to put performances in like that. Brave, brave substitution which paid dividends! Great decision. Nice summary too, I won't bother now!
leftsideoverhere Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Lovely day. The most inspired thing the Swans did all afternoon was order a dozen pizzas to be delivered to their team coach after the game. Honestly. In these days of sports science and nutritionists you couldn't make it up. I could watch Wayne Brown tackle for 90 minutes every week. I swear would do it too. Itd be like watching stock car racing or a drunk on the dodgems. I reckon they should change the rules about shirt numbers so he can have number '100' and then we can have a little percentage sign stitched on afterwards. The new boys were all solid, and Richie Wellens in particular was inspiring. I thought we did ok first half and didn't really deserve to be behind. But the shift in gears at half time was a thing of beauty. NP's ability to read a game and make tactical changes is ever more impressive. If only he could get the pre-match talk to be as effective as the half-time one... Just hope Nicky Adams doesn't decide the corner flag thing is worth trying again though. Once in a lifetime, that.
jonw88 Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Anyone know why the game was late kicking off? didn't seem to finish till gone 5pm! Also what's the news on Tunchev? Not even on the bench today..
