bakedalasker Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Two very contrasting halves.1st 45 mins - Goes to show that we started nervous (sort of expected for the first game of the season) and tried to rely on high balls in to Howard. Although he won his fair share, an unfit Fryatt couldn't read or reach many of them. Also Lloyd Dyer kept coming inside way too deep at times. If I were Pearson I'd have him hugging the touch-line and encouraging him to go on more of his runs. This coupled with Oakley's ineffective wing play meant that we were very narrow. I'm just glad we were playing a team without much attacking options themselves. Silly defending lead to their goal. 2nd 45 mins - No doubt Pearson had some choice words to throw around the dressing room during the break. A bold move to make a double substitution at the start of the second half. What a change! We had width again with N'Guessan down the left and Oakley linking up with Wellans to control our playing style. All of a sudden we started playing possession football full of short and direct passing. Full credit to Waghorn and N'Guessan - let's hope these sort of performances get repeated time and time again. Adams introduction too helped to change our attitude in getting the ball forward. Overall a fully deserved result. Swansea didn't provide the sort of challenge I expect in this league (albeit a nice intro for us). Using Howard as a target man should be just one option of many that we have in our armoury. With our several wing options and a young, hungry striker, the future looks bright. Finally a word on our defence. Mattocks exit won't hurt us one bit. Bruno had a cracking game today. Hobbs and Morrison continue to get better. Then we have Mr Wayne Brown! Nuff said TBh Swansea have been sliced open this summer with the loss of perhaps the best manager in the league plus the departure of 2 of their best players. Alot of my Jack mates (Swansea fans) have reservations about the new manager and are concerned why they have not brought in more new players. Without taking anything away from your victory this was not the same Swansea from last year. Even so with what they have they are still a force to take serious. So your comeback in the second half must have been encouraging. From what I have seen so far this is going to be a very tight league so expect more of the same. Good win for you guys yesterday, well done.
Edmund Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Great win yesterday. Couldn't have asked for a better start. Thought it was going to be one of those days when Howard missed the penalty but great character shown by the team. Shrewd changes by Pearson won us the game yesterday and his signings are spot on once again this season. Delighted with Waghorn, Wellens and N'guessan and all looking like excellent assets. Nicky Adams must not be loaned out this season as he looks a quality player. With a fully fit Fryatt, Nielson and the Tunch back I am quietly confident we will be comfortable this season. :city:
AyewJoking Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Crucial win. Its only the first match but we have to beat the likes of Swansea to make sure we dont get sucked into a relegation battle. Well done lads
lou Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Meant to say also was loving the Kings of Leon track being played before the PHG.. thought it was the perfect build up! Then they had to go and spoil it with the Chelsea Dagger shite again! I too dont get people saying we were crap 1st half etc... I thought we were the better side regardless of them scoring and wasnt feeling despondant
Vlad The Impaler Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Crucial win. Its only the first match but we have to beat the likes of Swansea to make sure we dont get sucked into a relegation battle. Well done lads Don't think we'll have to be worrying about that tbh
Ozwin Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 I feel bad, I acually did the Chelsea Dagger jig thing when we scored. I couldn't help it.
Koke Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Is it just me was there loads of bees at the ground yesterday? Those little terrorists annoyed the fuck out of me.

Ozwin Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Is it just me was there loads of bees at the ground yesterday? Those little terrorists annoyed the fuck out of me. There was this huge dragonfly thing near us all game.
Daggers Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 I found there was far too many children near me and I was very surprised to discover that you can not swat them.
lou Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 I found there was far too many children near me and I was very surprised to discover that you can not swat them. Feel free to swat any of mine!
Cobbo Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Well what a half time teamtalk by Pearson. He earned his stripes today with both subs scoring and having great halves. Very satisfying victory Did anyone else think that their number 2 - Ashley Williams - was class? Scored their goal too and with his pace at the back really kept us quiet in the first half.
Daggers Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Feel free to swat any of mine! I'll pass - Your daughter is big enough to swat me back.
crazylegs1984 Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Don't think we'll have to be worrying about that tbh bit optimistic after one game
Corky Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Very pleased to get underway with a win, especially with two aways coming up. First half we looked a bit nervous I felt, and Swansea knocked it about well. Should've defended the corner better though. Fryatt patently wasn't fit and King looked overrun in midfield. Second half the double substitution paid dividends, not just with the goals, but both Waghorn and N'Guessan looked lively and pushed Swansea back, and we gradually created more chances, took hold of possession and they rarely threatened. Great to see no heads going down after their goal and the penalty miss, and I thought the atmosphere was quite good too. Three points, good start and something to build on.
Vlad The Impaler Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Did anyone else see Wellens totally taking the piss out of that Swansea player's shot towards the end? LEGEND
Nath Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Did anyone else see Wellens totally taking the piss out of that Swansea player's shot towards the end?LEGEND What did he do?
CosbehFox Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 What did he do? Signalled the distance of how wide it went with his hands. Lopez, the diving turd couldn't look at him. Also liked Oakley winding up Pintado when Browny went down after a clash of hands.

Fosse Boy Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 And while I'm talking about decent: The Bobby Robson tribute clap and chant gave me a massive lump in the throat Well done everyone for that! That was fantastic. A fitting tribute. As for the trouble, I am not surprised. Our twats were out in force yesterday. Seriously, surely people have better things to spend there time and money on than staring at 3,000 away fans for 90 minutes and giving them the odd gesture. The fact that some ****** in L1 were doing their utmost to get 'Ten German Bombers' started about ten minutes (?) into the game worried me greatly, other than that kind of crap the atmosphere was decent in there.
Lesterlad Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 My first post so be gentle Regarding the trouble outside the Holioday inn there was a mnini bus of Swansea fans trying to get out of the car park only person looking for trouble was a moronic City fan in a black tea shirt who opened the back door of the mini bus as soon as the swansea fans got out he ran to the back. A Leicester fan who was with him thought it was a good idea to threaten a Swansea fan and said come on and the Swansea fan hit chinned him knocking him out. This became a bit scarey as he hit his head against the car on the way down. Its easy to blame the away fans for trouble but it was our lads who started it and one got seriously hurt. Hope he is ok soon
john_lcfc Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 I didnt see any real trouble. Just about 5 minutes after the game outside the away end because they were "locked in" they kicked one of the large exit gates down but as someone else said were met with 2 police horses and loads of police with batons and they soon retreated back into the ground, to cheers from our fans.
