Anish Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 What a fantastic turnaround in the second half. The first half was laboured and average - with no pace and both of our so-called wide men drifting into midfield to make up for the invisible man that was King. Fryatt was off the pace but he was unfit and wasn't as bad as some others. N'guesan and Waghorn were a breath of fresh air and make a massive impact. They injected much needed pace and width in the team and our movement improved no end. Wellens was also excellent. Berner was solid at left back and attacked well, winning the penalty and making an assist for Waghorn. Pearson made a brave move at half-time and it turned out to be a masterstroke. Finally we've got a manager who is prepared to take radical action when needed. Top management again from Nigel changed the game.
Leicester_Mackem Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Hello guys, just posted in the introduce yourself thread but I'm a Leicester born Sunderland fan, keeping an eye on Waggy. Seems like he had a very impressive debut. Hopefully he can keep on banging in the goals for the foxes. He's very raw, but needs games which is exactly what he'll get at Leicester. Up the Foxes!
Bryn Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Yes guys, he really meant to do that. The 1-2 off the corner flag? That was very definitely deliberate.
Koke Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 BTW you have a fantastic user name .. love Airplane You have a great taste mate - Do stick around and be our resident Mackem friend.
Raj Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 1st half- uninspiring usual City Champuionship football. 2nd half- VERY promising, especially from the new boys, the scorers and Ricky W geezer was great. Well Done for NP for changing it around when he knew we were struggling. P.S-The Swans fans did try and get to city fans immediately after the game the the cops on horses and withbatons barrackaded them in. P.P.S Yes Berty-i said to the people around me that Howard would miss..... Like his aggression today though....
Milky Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 The 1-2 off the corner flag? That was very definitely deliberate. He was knocking it out for a throw i think. There was suprise and some hesitation too before he went to collect the ball.
Ozwin Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 What an absolutely awesome day! Personally it was the best I've heard the fans in a long time, that may seem silly to some of you but I really thought it was booming in my area of the kop. Was loving the banter with the Swansea fans too. I ****ing love this Waghorn too already, the amount of difference he made compared to Fryatt was ridiculous, he looks like a proper player. Roll on next week!
Bryn Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 He was knocking it out for a throw i think. There was suprise and some hesitation too before he went to collect the ball. I was in the shit family stand and it looked measured to me.
Milky Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 I was in the shit family stand and it looked measured to me. Looking forward to the highlights. Love it if he did pull it off.
MPH Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 What an excellent spectacle and a perfect example of football as a game of two halves. As far as I see it, we were simply dire in the first half. It seemed that once again we were out of our depth in the Championship. But Pearson made what can only be described as the most brilliant changes and N'Guessan and Waghorn changed the game. All this means, going forward, is that we have three points on the board from the off - five points from the next three games and a result against the Barcodes on Sky will leave me, Nigel and the squad very happy and in a decent position to work forward. However, I am concerned about Fryatt. He was clearly unfit today and Waghorn was simply a better player on the day... where does this leave young Matty, who did so well last season? Is it conceivable that he could be dropped? Before jumping ahead of ourselves, let's remember that it was only one game. Let's hope there's just more of the same as what we saw in that second half. UTF. Welcome to the forum sir. Looks like we could do with more posters with your sense! please tell me you are not talking about fryatt , Joe? The guy has hardly had a pre season lets not get onhis back just yet!!
Joe. Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 please tell me you are not talking about fryatt , Joe?The guy has hardly had a pre season lets not get onhis back just yet!! I was talking about his post in general, which I agreed with mostly. I think what he was trying to say was more along the lines of Fryatt having some competition finally, and not being able to feel too comfortable with his position in the team.
ob1kanobe0 Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Well we started ok, but when they scored it was as if PLEAT OUT had took charge. The great man (NP) sorted them out at HT and away we went, attack, attack, attack attack attack. The only down side to the great man's HT judgement, was that Fryatt was needed for the penalty. Howard has lost the plot for me (if he at all ever had it with us), at one point he was moaning nearly as much as some of the desperate fans who believe we should win every game Colchester style. The only thing lacking from the 2nd half were chants of, "its just like watching Brazil". To win from a goal down is very good, and however the first goal went in, it was a great win for us considering our star defender (Tunchev) and Neilson wern't available and Fryatt was half fit. We have a very good manager, but promotion wont happen on this showing, moaning fans need to get real. SIGN WAGHORN!!!!!!!!!! A serious breathe of fresh air, and another shinning example of the great man's ability to find a player.
Daggers Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 moaning fans need to get real. I heard my first 'booing' at 30minutes and something seconds (directed at Oakley being unable to grow seventeen feet taller and run at the speed of light). I believe this sets a new record.
Koke Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 We have a very good manager, but promotion wont happen on this showing, moaning fans need to get real. The worst thing is when they moan at the ref - I had a geezer and his child moaning at every decision the ref made, even when ref made right decisions. When Howard got a talking to from the ref for striking the Swansea fella in the face deliberately, they moaned. Why? Howard was lucky not to get a yellow. I fucking cringed. Kobe, good to see you post outside General for once.

Im surely entitled to give my opinion, ask questions, whataya, scared of em. Never liked hospitals anyway

I don't really mind people moaning at the ref, least they are backing the right people (our player) I hate it when they boo, really annoys me and can't believe people booed today (although didn't hear it myself). I admit it wasn't a good first half but there was pretty much nothing in it for me between the teams (but poor marking on one corner). Either way booing is imo very counter productive. (However I reserve the rite to boo Joe Tw**tock when he returns with WBA)
AmericanScott Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Had a great day. First half we looked okay and stood strong after their goal. Created some chances but nothing special. N'Guessan and Waggy were class. Brilliant signings. I got excited watching Dany cross balls into the box. Saw Smuts a couple of rows back from me. Sorry i didn't say hi
Babylon Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 A Swansea view of us.... "I thought they were a very poor side. Looked like a League One team to me which just makes the result all the more disappointing. They'll be lucky to stay up. They had nothing in midfield or out wide and the style of football that was so effective against us in the second half won't cut it against most sides in the Championship. In terms of football they couldn't compete with us and the only player with any talent was the number 17 who came on in the second half - and he looked a good player."
Koke Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 For a club who has recently graced the dizzy heights of the second tier, they do have a massive superiority complex. They're a bunch of nobodies....meh.
haraven Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Come ere with your long swanish necks, and we'll stuff em with Waghorn and N'Guessan goals... Swansea was properly owned in the second half.

They're not even an 'English' team and therefore, what right do they have.... Shove it where it don't shine. Poor losers.

Wow whoever wrote that either has no previous football knowledge and saw a swan and thought hey you know what I'd like to support Swansea. Or is mentally retarded which is absolutely tragic.
Chrysalis Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 brilliant stuff, my thoughts..... pearson - has the balls to make changes early on, no fear in dropping fryatt and king at half time. waghorn - instead of comparing him to man utd players, I will compare him to how dickov was when he was younger, chasing and harrying. Pearson so far so good, the ability to turn goal deficits into victories seems like it may also work in this division. He recognises the obvious stuff as well which is great.

This is exactly what was said by a friend of mine during the game, that dickov's had a small word down his lughole and just said have at'um put yourself about and generally be a pain in the *&^%, to be fair it was working great. On anohter note as a doncaster lass turned Leicester lass (I blame uni....and never leaving) It was good to see Richie having a solid game agian a class act in the midlde of the park, and big Wayne B had a good game.....you can try and come offf better in a tackle with him but it just ain't gonna happen nearly 2 of the swansea players he had off the pitch today....saying that I MISS TUNCHEV!!!!!!!!!!!!! my east european lampard lookaliky.....ya know if ya tilt your head to the left and sqint a lil bit
