Swansea Post Match

Hesistate to say this, but I can't help but say that that was probably the best football we've played in the Championship since we came down. It might not win us any matches but just as a footballing side we looked twice as good as any team we were watching 2-3 seasons ago. There was movement and desire and the odd bit of flair. Loved it.

brilliant result, nigel the mastermind eh. king had a shocker, he was garbage. everyone else looked solid. Blimey, Steves lost some pudding.

and after the game, a Swansea fan (club shirt) walked straight up to a chap from leicester who was with his son, and smacked him.

moronic.

Away from home, first game of the season, big support, make a bit of noise for 5 minutes and then...fuck all.

Swansea, your support is seriously disappointing.

As was your attacking.

You only have to glance at the midfield today and a midfield from 07/08 to notice the gulf in quality:

Midfield vs Sheffield Wednesday (26/04/2008)

Bell --- Oakley --- Wesolowski --- Hayles (Wtf?!)

Midfield vs Swansea (08/08/2009)

Oakley --- King --- Wellens --- Dyer

------------------------------------

And that was one of the better midfields from the 07/08 season; looking back it truly was a horrific lineup in the middle of the park.

I love Wayne Brown. It's been far too long since we've had a player as nasty as this in the team.

Can't help but wonder if he's got a little room at home adorned with framed pictures of players he has brutalised over the course of his career. Just hanging Lopez up next to Becchio as I type this.

I go as far as saying it was shite to be honest. Was expecting them to be as vocal as the Cardiff fans but they barely made a noise apart from about 5 mins after their goal.

Delighted, Waghorn sounds like a superb addition as does N'Guessen

Well done to Nige for not doing a Micky Adams and waiting till 81mins to make changes.

Superb start.

I texted my mate at half time and said that I'm glad Pearson was giving a sub a full 45 mins to make an impact, not a measly 10 minutes. Nice one Nige.

Can't wait for the highlights tonight

Cheers for that, I'd have missed them if you hadn't put that.

Bad example considering that during that season we also played Maybury, Kenton and N'Gotty (repeatedly!!!!) in midfield. :D

Incidentally I thought Bell was alright. Crosses were always a little bit overhit but not too bad a player.

What a Disgrace.

And then the famous Leicestershire police, threatened to arrest the man for trying to find his son. fooking joke. jobsworth bastards.

For a bit I thought we'd have a treat of a decent away support - sing when they're winning? They were silent until the goal and then had a bit of a sing after the peno. Very poor.

BUT - they clapped on the kids at half-time, which was really decent.

And while I'm talking about decent: The Bobby Robson tribute clap and chant gave me a massive lump in the throat  Well done everyone for that!

It was lovely and I was glad to have my sunglasses on as I also shed a couple of tears. Immense, but no more than the great man deserves :)

Yeah that's what I mean, it was one of the better ones! Ridiculous.

Just a select few from that season:

Newton --- Kishishev --- Wesolowski --- Clemence

Chambers --- Kishishev --- King --- Mattock

Hume --- Wesolowski --- Clemence --- Sheehan

Kaebi --- King --- Clemence --- Sheehan

------------------------------------------------

I could go on further. I'm actually quite astounded looking through some of these teams, incredible how many square pegs were put in round holes so to speak. It's any wonder we even had a chance of survival back then.

I agree he is quality

We have a saying

Tunchev is graceful and Brown is disgraceful (in the best posible way).

Loved that foul he did in the second half when there player was going through.

Waghorn looked lovely, if he can keep that up then we have a real diamond in the lad.

Ahem that would be us then :P congrats on the win lads , Ok as for Waggy he has the chance to be a very very good player , he has pace, strength and knows where the back of the net is... time will tell I guess but I hope he scores a hatfull of goals for you lot .

I do have a bit of a Leicester supporting past as my ex and all her family are all City fans so I have a soft spot for you , they tried to convert my son and signed him up as a junior Fox ( I think it is called) but a son should follow his father ( I've suffered all my life so he can too ;) )

Anyways hope you all have a great season and me and my boy will be at Sid James on the 31st to cheer you on against Ne*****e

I must admit, I didn't think the first half was that bad. A tad nervy if anything, but we started quite well. And if Swansea hadn't scored against the run of play, things may not have seen so bad.

But the second half, fantastic. It was great to see the passion and desire there, with a bit of quality from the midfield and to keep that up, even after the missed penalty, shows theres a great team spirit and belief in the squad. And its great to have that back at the club.

Don't want to get too carried away, as I honestly believe Swansea will struggle this year, as they have a distinct lack of goals and creativity going forward.

But a great start to the season, exactly what we needed.

Bring on Ipswich next week, lets get these games coming thick and fast.

Can't remember walking away from the ground in a Championship season so happy. A performance and result together? Is this real at this level?

Top work Nigel.

But if he churns out a few more performances like todays then we should look into signing him.

You can look all you want ;)

Actually we have a few good young'uns coming through , depending on if we bring in another midfielder you may want to try to get Jordan Henderson on loan as well ( he was at Cov last season on loan) he has featured in most of our pre-season games but can't see him as being a regular this season for us.

I'm kind of expecting us to be given Wags to make up for us being messed around by Keane the season before last. :D

I did the same. The applause, and the enthusiasm shown by so many fans, was very moving. Sunglasses are a godsend in such situations.

We were actually linked with him a while back, nothing came of it though. Did well at Coventry last year as well apparently. Promising stuff for you lot. £9m on Darren Bent?! Pah.

Our resident Charlton fan told us he was a lazy bum. <_<

He looked extremely good today, but I'll give him some more games before I make a full and honest verdict on him. So far so good though.

Keano messing people around :dunno: I find that hard to believe :D

Not that he'll last long at Ipswich

Hmmm i've seen him mostly for our youths and reserves and would never describe him as lazy, he's learning his trade, more than anything he needs experience and time on the field , Leicester is a good club and hopefully it works out for all concerned.

BTW you have a fantastic user name .. love Airplane :D

Moving on, got told by a mate that the Swansea fans ran out and 'attacked' the city fans at the end of the game. Not to sure he said attacked, something along the lines of anyway..

Kicked off outside and inside the ground. Stewards were completely nobs apparently but then outside it seems both clubs' nobhead elements had a go.

I just loved walking in front of four of them moaning....'deflection this' and 'penalty that'. That was me two year ago....as Buzz Lightyear said 'NOT TODAY!'

Lovely day. The most inspired thing the Swans did all afternoon was order a dozen pizzas to be delivered to their team coach after the game. Honestly. In these days of sports science and nutritionists you couldn't make it up.

That's common because the high carbohydrate content in Pizza's.

Magic stuff. Can't really add on what's been said. Waghorn looks a real prospect. For 45 minutes, I regretted buying a season ticket and then the other 45 minutes, I didn't. Drove and had a walk down today...felt that buzz you can only feel on a sunny day when your side's down well. I also thought Wellens was poor first half but superb second. He got caught on the ball four, five times. Howard's peno was one of the worst ever.
