casablancas Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Why are we expected to loose to Ipswich??? I don't really understand all the hype surrounding them at the minute. I mean they hardly set the league on fire last season and have not had a great start this time around. I read that we are 'expected' to loose to them away and for the life of me I don't know why. I think we have a similar strength squad with our possibly having the greater depth. I expect a close thought game and would not be suprised if we came away with something. Keano has hardly the best managerial record. Please feel free to add your thoughts and opinions.

Fox92 Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 I think the hype about us expecting to loose and Ipswich expecting to go up is because of Roy Keane. Watched them yesterday against Coventry and they looked shocking. On that performance, I think we can go there and get something, then again, Ipswich playing at home is a total different performance from their away performance and we don't usually get things our way at Portmand Road - although two years ago we won 2-0 via McAuley twice I think.
DanTheFox07 Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Fook ipswich, Everyone thinks there the big time because of roy keane, I hope we do them aswell as west brom for Mattock being a smug little brat with his comments on sky today!

Well I don't. Roy Keane has done nothing to make think he's a decent manager.
Asha Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Well I don't. Roy Keane has done nothing to make think he's a decent manager. Getting Sunderland promoted when they were struggling near the bottom when he took over?
FOX_TROT_07 Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 I think it's because we pretty much always lose to them at Portman Road. Didnt we win 2-0 last time we played there??
Guest Bilo Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Well I don't. Roy Keane has done nothing to make think he's a decent manager. Quite right too. Bought success in the Championship and was then proved to be hopelessly out of his depth in the Premiership. Ipswich were awful yesterday at a side many expect to be struggling come May, and they were actually better away than at home last season. We can beat them while our confidence is still sky high from Saturday and theirs has taken a knock.
Katy Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Getting Sunderland promoted when they were struggling near the bottom when he took over? I could've done that It doesn't necessarily make him a good manager though, people are just scared of him because he's a nut job.
Corky Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 I think it's because we pretty much always lose to them at Portman Road. 6 visits to Portman Road, 6 defeats Typical I miss our only win there It has to change some time
Katy Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Didnt we win 2-0 last time we played there?? Yes, which is why I said we pretty much always lose there

Keano has hardly the best managerial record. Please feel free to add your thoughts and opinions. Neither do I. Keane has brought media interest and reports of 'raised expectations', but it remains to be seen if he'll actually deliver promotion. Going off what they've done in the transfer window, I see no reason why they will do any better than the mid-table they achieved last season, but you know what the media are like. It was the same with Cloughie v. Fergie (oops, Derby v. Peterborough) at the week-end. On the other hand, I'm sure they'll be fired up for their first home game, especially after losing this week-end. Last season they had an amazing record at Portman Road too. I'm sure most City fans would be very happy with a draw, me included, but I can't see teams actually being intimidated by the prospect of playing Ipswich this season, whether they've got Keane or not.
Sparky Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Getting the 3 points against Swansea has lifted a little pressure , we can go to Ipswich relax and play our game as with defeat in thier 1st game has put more pressure on them to take the victory on saturday. I genuinlly expect us to get a result
Lovejoy Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Ipswich at Portman Road are a different kettle of fish to when they're on the road. Winnable, but will be a toughie no question.
turkish14 Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 I think some of the scepteism is down to being F**ked by the refereeing the past two times we have played them at Portman road by having players sent off wrongly (thimk is was Kisnorbo last time)
wigstonexile Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Ipswich at Portman Road are a different kettle of fish to when they're on the road. Winnable, but will be a toughie no question. Yes it will be tough - so will the rest of the matches, but as a supporter I have expectation that all are winnable, I go and support with a positive attitude, but you know that you will lose some (the odd three or four??)
Daggers Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 I thought Ipswich were well worthy of a point, if not the win yesterday - and only denied through Cov being extremely lucky and pulling off some incredible saves & defending. The fluent attacking play in the second half would have swamped almost every team in this division and they have some quality players there. To go to Ipswich now is to take on one of the top half teams in the division, regardless of the manager. Swansea are a team in transition, without their manager and two best players from last season - Ipswich are a team legitimately aiming for promotion providing Keane can provide the boost in motivation & belief some of his squad require. Our visit will be a measure of where we are and how much we need to improve, a point would be good.

Daggers Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Most of Ipswich are foreigners and need repatriating. My thoughts as well.
purpleronnie Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 I expect us to lose simply because we won our first match and they lost, weird I know.
dandannieldanok Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Waghorn should be allowed the freedom to get the ball and run at McAuley.
Legend_in_blue Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Ipswich were awful on Sunday but were worth a point from their efforts. However, I had to laugh when I saw McAuley at the back as captain! He wouldn't get anywhere near our team now. I'd expect some sort of backlash from it, and would take a point now tbh. McAuley and pace don't go together though so stick our quick men on him is the way to go. Quick tempo please. They were 'typical championship' on Sunday, physical, slow, hoof (by and large).
casablancas Posted 10 August 2009 Author Posted 10 August 2009 I honestly hold much optimism to our visit to Portman road, doesn't that way have like the highest inbreeding % around in Britain? . I think if we can keep the defence tight and play some possession football they'll become frustrated and we'll be able to take advantage. Well thats what im hoping for!
DanTheFox07 Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Might work well, sight tight in our own half and soak up the pressure for first 15-20 mins then concentrate on getting them on the counter attack, Hopefully pearson will address any problems we have in defence with dealing with set pieces, maybe he should tell them to actually mark players . Anyway Want to see Tunchev in the squad at least on wed and given 45mins so can make the bench for sat, also Don`t make the same mistake with oakley and put him in the centre with wellens with King to miss out im afraid. I would play nguessan on the right.
