MauriceJobson Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 rob ullethorne. eventually told to feck off by mon wasnt he? Ullathorne was a decent enough player, probably Man of the match in the 1999 league cup final. Unfortunately flattened by Kasey Keller in the 2-2 match at Chelsea, breaking his leg for the second time. Refused to sign the 1 year contract extension offered by O'Neill despite not being able to walk at the time! Unsurprisingly O'Neill told him to feck off in no uncertain terms and he ended up at Notts County.
Cropwellfox Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 Not living up to hype - Wayne Clarke, supposedly a shrewd piece of business including him when Newell went north. Ermmmm... - Darren Eadie, clearly going to be injury prone years before we paid £3m - Ade Akinbiyi, the poor guy probably couldn't even believe it himself when he found out how much we had bid. - Hossein Kaebi, hype all thanks to YouTube / our OS - Ricky Hill, supposedly signed to bring quality to our midfield...What was Pleat thinking??? Bizarre use of signing on fee - Peter Eccles - who? - Pat Gavin - who? - David Puttnam - who? - Pat O'Toole - who? - Justin Harrington - who?
Guest Electric Yetis Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 Ade Akinbiyi - Fee was far too great! - TaylorDennis Wise - Shiite tw@t - Taylor Matt Jones - Not his fault, but £3m and injured - Taylor Lee Marshall - Shiite - Talyor Tony Spearing - Horrendous - Pleat? Franz Carr - Cr@p - Pleat Nicolas Priet - Useless - Adams Michael Trotter - yes who, he was terrible too - Little Nicky Platanauer - How was this guy a footballer? -Little Paul Fitzpatrick - ditto - Little Nathan Blake - Fat - Adams Trevor Benjamin - £1.5m utterly useless - Taylor Josh Low - Dogshit would have been better as a right winger - Adams Kevin Pressman - could not possibly have been any fatter - Adams Alan Rogers - What a koont - Bassett Junior Lewis - With time & space he looked like Beckham, close him down he was as good as me. - Taylor Paul Dickov - 2nd time around horrendous - Mandaric D J Campbell - £1.6m & always Offside! - Allen Hossain Kaebi - Hyepd up to fook, but I seen him in the reserves awful - Allen Sergio Hellings - Never a footabller as long as football continues to be played - Allen Jimmy Willis - Walshy says he could not kick a balls straight and that he has no idea how he was a footballer - Little Elvis Hammond - Utter gobshiite! We signed this useless ****er for £325k & we had him on loan for 3 more months utter joke! - Levein Peter Canero- Levein Joe Hammil - Levein Zsolt Laszcko - 1 good game we thought he was a start, utter garbage - Holloway Carl Cort - Utterly shiite! - Holloway John Curtis - Useless ****er - Adams Graham Fenton - Spent over £1m on him never got a return now playes for Blyth Spartans - O'Neill Ricky Hill - Terrible at Leicester - Pleat Jason Jarret - Terrible - Holloway Andy Johnson - Horrendous - Levein Des Linton - crap - Pleat I am too depressed to continue Imight be wrong but I'm sure Carr was signed by Little and Jarret by Rob Kelly? Also Carl Cort - Martin Allen
renards Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Based on players who so promised so much but disappointed. All quality at some point, haven't included Aki, Bengi etc as I don't think they were ever that decent. Dennis Wise (How long have we got!) Dion Dublin (saved it unti Norwich) Martin Keon (had a ton on us to get promoted with those 2, we were nearer relegation) Ricky (over the) Hill Roberto Manchini (Obviously had it in buckets, but had gone before he got here)
MauriceJobson Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Sascha Lenhart Lars Gunnar Carlstrand Stuart Slater Stefan Postma (Kalac-esque performance in a pre season friendly at Kettering) Justin Harrington
Guest Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Alan Maybury anyone??? <_< I can see why you're saying that, and probably 50% of the time he was useless, but we've definitely seen worse over recent years
Karljohn Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Peter Gilbert Junior Lewis Dennis Wise Keith Gillespie Alan Evans (on loan under Pleat)
Koke Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Imight be wrong but I'm sure Carr was signed by Little and Jarret by Rob Kelly? Also Carl Cort - Martin Allen Yeah, you're right. And I'm also sure Josh Low was signed by R. Kelly, and not Adams.
Koke Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Alan Maybury anyone??? <_< He's no where near our 5 worst players.
General Smuts Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 1. Junior Lewis 2. Josh Low 3. Hossein Kaebi 4. Kevin Pressman 5. Rab Douglas/Elvis Hammond (ankle) Couldn't decide between the last two.
Rodders Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Top 5 worst players Players that didn't meet the hype... Surely these aren't the same thing. I mean, Junior Lewis was complete garbage on a good day, but it's not as if we were expecting much, were we? Where's the hype surrounding a couple of 150k signing from Gillingham?! Again, Josh Low was never going to put on dazzling display after dazzling display after we signed him on a free from Northampton(?). For me, hype is only generated by a big price tag, a number of eye-catching performances at another club or an unhealthy YouTube-exaggerated impression of the player's abilities. So, Akinbiyi - an enormous record £5 million, good goal-scoring record (16 in 37) at Wolves and replacement, I guess, for the out-going Heskey. Complete flop at Leicester - the Prem was a step too far for him and his strength and workrate couldn't make up for his lack of any real natural footballing ability. I'd also put Clemence on the list. £1 million from promoted Birmingham where he was the captain. Expected to carry on his good form here, but didn't. Poor first season and has been injured ever since. Kaebi - so much ill-founded expectation about the 'Iranian wonderkid's' skill & talent, based purely on a few clips on the internet. Didn't quite work out... Roberto Mancini - Italian legend brough in to add a spark to a high-flying, pre-Wycombe Peter Taylor team. Huge wages, hardly played and looked out-of-place when he did. Dennis Wise - big name player, big(ish) fee (£1.6 million for a 34 year old), experienced. Admittedly, always going to be trouble, but it was meant to be for the other team. Didn't do a lot for a year (I only remember a goal in a 4-1 defeat to Liverpool and a red card at Highbury), then broke Callum Davidson's jaw and got suspended.
Fox92 Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 Junior Lewis Dennis Wise Elvis Hammond Mark de Vries Momo Sylla - Impressed on his debut but was that because we were on the T.V? Stephen Hughes - Could finish, thats about it. John Curtis Steve Howey Chris Makin - Again, good on his debut but nothing else. Josh Low - Oh no, no comment. Actually, got to be the worst player ever I think. Joe Hammill ¬ Just a few but the list can continue. Most were good on their debuts then were very, very, very poor. Actually can't we just count, with the exception of a few, the whole squads from 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. This season (and last obviosuley, but that was League 1 ) is the strongest team we have had most probably since the last promotion under Micky Adams.
FilboFox Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Scott Gemmill or whatever his name was... I seem to remember him playing for us and not being good at all...
davieG Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Scott Gemmill or whatever his name was... I seem to remember him playing for us and not being good at all... But he did play for nothing.
davieG Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 I wouldn't pick anyone who played in the Little and MON eras. They may have lacked skill but none can compare to some of the almighty shite we've suffered during the early and middle parts of this decade I can't even begin to pick 5 there's been far too many of equal levels of dross.
foxaholic Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Norman Leet..........shocking At least somebody knows who was really bad . Possiblly the worse signing since the war was when they exchanged Jim Melrose for English . To include people like Frank Sinclair is ridiculous in his last game against the all conquering Arsenal one of the best players on the field
Salieri Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 At least somebody knows who was really bad . Possiblly the worse signing since the war was when they exchanged Jim Melrose for English . To include people like Frank Sinclair is ridiculous in his last game against the all conquering Arsenal one of the best players on the field A couple of years back The Times did a 50 worst footballers of the modern era (from the top flight, from 1970 I think) and poor Frank was voted in at number 26 : 26 Frank Sinclair (Leicester City) Whatever the opposite of a purple patch is, Frank ‘Spencer’ Sinclair had one in August 1999. In two matches in August he scored two risible own goals, single-handedly costing his team three points. That month of mishaps alone earns him a place in the annals of infamy. The reason for his inclusion is unfortunately what most people think of when they remember Frank. I happen to think he was a pretty decent player who has been very unfortunate to have left "own goals" as his legacy! There's certainly been FAR worse players to have worn the shirt before and since. (too many to mention!)
