Fosse Boy Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Is there anything you Geordies won't say to make me love you more? Don't suppose you were one of the lads we met in Pomphrey's on Monday were you?
Katy Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 I reckon the majority of those who moan at Sky probably a) Have it b) Watch games on it either at home/pub c) Would be disappointed if it no longer existed. Nope Looks like I am in the minority then. No you aren't.
Stevie1892 Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Is there anything you Geordies won't say to make me love you more? Don't suppose you were one of the lads we met in Pomphrey's on Monday were you? No I keep away from the Bigg Market. Everywhere gets too packed. I'm 31 now, and I find most people under 23, to be devoid of personality, derelict of genuine football opinion, and clueless of what going to football was like. All of it is unstandable as personalities and opinions are being driven away by the mass media machine which consumes peoples lives around the world. Young people form their opinions purely based on media oulets like talksport and (back on topic) SKY. No one needs to tell me Newcastle have a lot of tools supporting us, but no more than any other club, but this young lad SussexFox summed every myth up going about the club. I'm not here to defend the club, but if you actually meet with a Newcastle fan from Newcastle they will never say we deserve to win this or be there because of this, they will never say that. What they will say is we were in a better position than Liverpool and Chelsea on and off the pitch just 6 years ago, is it such a sin to believe that we can at least be in the position say Everton are in now in 5 ot 6years? They're not that good, they don't have the infrastructure we have, the turnover is usually £30m less than ours, and they don't have the fanbase we have, so is it deluded to think it's not impossible for us to get their eventually?? If it is, we are deluded, but we appreciate where we are and what we are now. What sparks criticism of our support off is our so called belief that we are a big club, most people don't care if we're a big club or not, and clearly playing in the Championship we are not a big club. Fanbase wise personally I would say we could be as high as fourth, but it's irrelevant when you win nothing, and probably not indicitive of whether or not we are BIG. The problem I find with NUFC is over the last 60 years geordie diaspora has seen hundreds of thousands of people maybe, move south to places like London, when economic times were tough, and they stayed there, but NUFC remained in the family. On top of that we got gloryhunters from everywhere in the Keegan times, and I think these people distort the true view of toon fans, by saying we're this, that and the other.
Webbo Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Yes I did, the first time I went was memorable for me, I'm sure it was for Leicester fans too, we won 1-2 with a last minute Steve Walsh own goal, which we thought had kept us up, but we would've stayed up anyway we weren't to know that at the time. It was probably memorable for Leicester fans as you invaded the pitch, some of ours did too, and it was mayhem for a while, a toon fans had his eye put out with a coin, what a moody atmosphere around the ground after too. That's not how I remember it. It was all Newcastle fans as remember.

It's sometimes a bit depressing these days to try and have a proper conversation about football when there is so much blanket coverage in the national media that people who don't go and support their team regularly can spout forthright opinions based on watching Sky Sports News and listening to Talksport all day. I tuned in to Talksport on transfer deadline day on the way back from the North East just to hear whether we were doing anything and it really was a demoralising experience. I couldn't tell whether the presenters on there were actually braindead idiots or whether they were acting up to get callers on the air arguing with them. A bit of both, I'd imagine. Last year in League One was beautiful. Winning a lot of games, getting to stand at most grounds with no hassle but possibly the most underrated part was the lack of media coverage, in my own humble opinion. I can understand why the vast majority of our fans want to see as much about us as possible in the national media but I think it's a poisoned chalice in a lot of ways. Suddenly you have all sorts of talking heads banging on about your team as if they know everything at the club inside out when it's just one of 50-odd that they have to cover in the top two leagues here and in Scotland.

I agree with all of this but the media focus is still all over us at the minute, maybe that will change the more we win, because all the media want to do is report on the demise of Newcastle. The bit in bold is so true. To be fair there are some quality journalists who report on us in the national news, Henry Winter is a brilliant journalist who offers a fantastic balance about the club, as do George Caulkin, Simon Bird and a few others. However there are so many others who basically haven't got a clue about anything north of Watford and repeat tired old bollocks year after year about how the club is in its' present state purely down to the fans, no one elses fault just the fans. Here is a good example, and probably the worst piece of journalism I've ever witnessed, a table tennis player writing about a football club in a city he's never visited, on a club he's never witnessed in the flesh. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle4761813.ece As with a lot of pieces they'll write the Newcastle fans DEMANDED Keegan, he wasn't even in the fooking betting let alone the fans demanding he be given the job. The latest example I can think of was last night on Radio 5. Brian Woolnough stating "I have no sympathy for Newcastle because they were the reason Sam Allardyce got sacked. Not once were there chants for him to go, the only time he got badly abused was against Liverpool when 0-2 down at home with 20 mins to go he takes off a striker and brings on a defender!! The last game he was manager he got a standing ovation off 4000 toon fans at Stoke after a pathetic feeble 0-0 draw in the FA Cup, so how is that driving him out? It's so typical of the media, and I know all fans do it, but we have more reason than most to believe that the southern media genuinely have it in for us.

Daggers Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Textiles. We know how you feel about it because we feel the same.
The Doctor Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 You don't have an opinion you're a mug, I don't even know what a battered mars bar is. You're nearer to Holland than I am to Scotland you rent boy. See on our forums nobheads like you who type text speak like "y" for "why" get banned. You've mumbled something about Gazza, Joey Barton, Mars Bars, The Angel of The North etc etc 2 are of them are from or in Gateshead, one is from Liverpool and the other is a bar of chocolate. If you've got nothing to say, say nothing are you end up looking like a cunnt like you do now. You are of the talksport generation of illiterate tool, not your fault, but that's what you are, I guarantee you now, you never went to Filbert Street. thats utter rubbish. you're about an hour from the scottish border where as suffolk is about 2-3 hours from the netherlands as the crow flies. Very uptight on your forums aren't we? most people type on forums in text speak now, just accept it. Weren't so desperate to remind people that Gascoigne wasn't actually from newcastle when he was playing for though, were you?
C-man Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 Weren't so desperate to remind people that Gascoigne wasn't actually from newcastle when he was playing for though, were you? And you know this guy well do you?

Dr The Singh Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 That's easy - www.ratemypoo.com Close thread, and all you feckers get on there, i'm sure there something from Newcastle, city, suffolk, even pooooonjab on there!!!

If he supported Leicester and was sticking up for Newcastle you wouldn't be having a go. I guarantee it.

As for Gazza, I was 10 and a half when he left, I can't even remember what I thought of him being from Gateshead, all I was saying was this kid was writing things about Newcastle by using Gateshead entities and he's had no come back. Nor should you. I tell you what it is and I never arselick, but on this type of forum normally 30% are good lads, and 70% are wanks on here, 80% seem absolutely sound, and 20% let the side down.
dypatel06 Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 I think they were Newcastle supporters the way they were going on. And trying to make excuses for newcastle, "they are playing brilliant even with a weaker side" about 10 times even though they have got a premiership standard squad. And that one commentator couldn't stop praising theyre striker Ranger, even when he made mistakes!!!

Leicester's midfield controlled the game for large spells of the first half, and should've been given more praise. I was at the game but watched it back on SKY.
demon_dog Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 It was obvious from the start that Sky were going to favour Newcastle throughout. The pundits normally are 1 explayer or manager from each side. Not in this case it wasn't. It was totally biased broadcasting. I have just cancelled my Sky subscription so up their's.

Angel of the North is in Gateshead, that's the equivalent of saying the M1 isn't in Leicester or runs through Leicester, it's about the same distance from the City Centre, one runs into one another? You are well educated, perhaps a journalist, or a mature student but you are rude and abusive. I criticise a fellow City for what it's worth my opinion has not changed yet you abuse and name call me. As I said earlier I am not going to get involved in a petty argument? You, ASSUME a lot you should never ASSUME as it makes an ASS out of you and me?
