Babylon Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I can't help but put this in a new thread, their coverage of the game last night was absolutely shocking. I've never heard such one sided commentary in a game for years. First half we were the better team IMO and we barely got a mention. Honestly, I thought we were playing Barcelona the way they were talking about them.

I thought that after putting up Dowie, Shearer, Moat, and Ashley, when it then came to feature Pearson the descriptive title would read "former Newcastle caretaker manager" as it would have fitted in with the theme of their programme. However they did not.
Darkzzz_ Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Agree with you completely. I seriously had to double check it was Newcastle we were playing, the team they were slating like hell a couple of months back.
davieG Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I'm just listening to it again whilst editing it - it's sycophancy at it's worse. And it's really hard to find any decent patches of play from either side.
Filbert_Ross Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 the repeated bumming of Kyle Ranger did my tits in.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 They showed our fans once in the whole 90 minutes. Which was a shame as it looked like there was a good following. This was there quote "It looks like Leicester brought a good following with them tonight, but it is really a glamour tie for them and most teams heading here" (was something along those lines)
Flynny Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Luckily I could only hear it in patches but it was pretty terrible.
StanSP Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I'm actually glad I couldn't hear the commentary in the pub we were in then!
Flynny Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 At one point early on they did say that it felt like a Premiership clash which I suppose gives us at least a bit of credit.
Alexikokopops Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 the repeated bumming of Kyle Ranger did my tits in. Oh aye. That was really annoying. As was Gary Birtles complaining that we weren't just lumping it forward to Howard. And claiming we had "some good cup runs" when we were in the Premiership. We won the League Cup twice, which is more than Newcastle have done in the past 50 years! Alan Parry and Gary Birtles are a joke.
shen Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Watched it through bet365, which had very fair commentary
Corky Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Agreed. You'd think Newcastle had 11 youth team players playing, seeing out a plucky victory, rather than 10 first-teamers with Premier League experience and one youngster who looks very promising. Birtles was annoying, encouraging us to play long ball then complaining when it didn't work.
suffolk fox Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Wondered who the co-commentator was? Gary Birtles well that explains it? He is anti Leicester anyway, he really annoyed me all game with his anti City comments example being Newcastle Quality final ball which is distinctly lacking for Leicester...........Knob!
StanSP Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 Dad told me Birtles is ex-Forest player, so it's really no surprise he gave us crap commentary.
Flynny Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I liked that the stubbly "hair" at the front of Dowie's head seemed to be shaved into a perfect square.
FoxesFan123 Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 They basically bummed Nile Ranger for the full 90 minutes. Seriously, he did OK, he wasn't even that great. At one point I'm sure they spoke about him constantly for about 10 minutes.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 It was so one sided I actually found myself swearing at the tv by the end. You wait and see what they will be like when we play moneybags QPR who are a London team. Might have to keep the sound on mute to save my sanity.
C-man Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I watched the highlights package on Sky earlier today and had to switch it off at half time. Probably because we were shit 2nd half, but also because I couldn't stand the thought of Gary Birtles and Alan Parry's voices for any longer. Even when they showed Nigel Pearson they commented on how he had been assistant manager at St. James' instead of commenting on the job he's doing now. Bunch of cunts, glad I made the effort to go.
Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I'm glad i'm not alone in this, Gary Birtles should be banned from commentating on Leicester games and indeed football, he's so pro-Forest/anti-Leicester it's untrue. The Ranger love in was pathetic, he barely had our defenders turned all night and barring Taylor toe poke wide from a cross they barely got into our box. I take a lot of positives from yesterday, the Sky commentary was not one of them
JakeShingler Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I swear after the game game both commentators went and had a 3 some with Ranger.
Samilktray Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I cant believe how much people are bothered by this, what did you expect?
James. Posted 1 September 2009 Posted 1 September 2009 I cant believe how much people are bothered by this, what did you expect? It was the extent of the bias that was most annoying, not necessarily the fact that there was bias. It's not really a surprise that the commentators were favouring Newcastle but when it gets so bad that they're practically distorting the truth it gets frustrating.
